Since the search is really quite with the exception of releases.I actually don't think Pruitt is making this hire on his own, I think Fulmer has inserted himself into this thing
I don't think we as fans are entitled to anything but im also a firm believer that in order for Pruitt to be successful that Fulmer needs to stay the hell out of the way. The stories midseason about Fulmer watching, grading film and coaching the OL are troublesome.Since the search is really quite with the exception of releases.
Could it be a possibility that they are working together and both Fulmer and Pruitt will hire based upon an agreement between them....
We, the media and others are not getting the information (some feel they are entitled to) which is quite obvious and appears to be the current situation. Get use to it....

It’s not going to be WF!

He was asked to stop performing football coaching duties in Knoxville (and everywhere else) for a reason. He should continue avoiding what he evolved to do poorly enough to be fired and never asked to do again, by anyone.Dumbest post of the day. When they fired him did they take all of his accomplishments away? What college coach hasn’t been fired at some point?
Wait. So, you're mad our CFB HOF, 2 X SECC, 1 NAT AD, who was likely an All american at OL, and a helluvan OC - wants to pitch in and help coach OL?
Mr Haslam?

He was fired as a football coach.
I hate to urinate in the punch bowl, but Cutcliffe was the catalyst. Peyton came due to Cutcliffe, when CJM was ill and Phil took over the offence did better because Cutcliffe was the OC. Take away Cutcliffe and we have no Peyton, no recruiting benefit from the Manning name, and thus no SEC or NC titles under Phil. Look at the records, once Cutcliffe left for Ole Miss is when we started our downward spiral. Phil would have been just a 6-5 or 7-4 coach w/o David Cutcliffe.
Many younger posters have no historical perspective. Their memory of UT football begins with Peyton and CPF without knowing the how's and why's.
I don’t think he lost his ability to coach linemen or anything else. I can see that he didn’t evolve as a head coach but I doubt he stopped understanding the fundamentals and teaching techniques of the position he grew up playing at a high level and specialized in simply because he was fired as a head coach. He was asked to stop performing football coaching duties in Knoxville (and everywhere else) for a reason. If Friend is promoted he would still be the OL coach. We would just have to replace a QB coach. Fulmer filled the same role when he was OC.I believe it is Friend. (1) It APPEARS that Freeze was blocked and everyone else turned us down
(2) The delay in the announcement is because it would hurt recruiting on offense.
Imagine a line man wanting Friend as their position coach but he is promoted to OC. Recruit may not want to wait to see who new O Line coach will be
When the machines have finished etching his name into the HOF plaques, i'm sure the master of ceremonies will include caveat 'except after Cutcliffe'.
Its well known Phillip would have gotten a top 3 job had we not hired him. At that time his name was top commodity, as an offensive mind.
if you remember, Phil was lights out on the recruiting trail. Phil went in home, it was game on. Yes, he benefitted from cutcliffe. as cutcliffe benefitted from Phil. It was Phillip who promoted a little known guy 'down the hall' in John Chavis. Recall from Cut's own mouth that it was Chavis' defenses in practice that was a huge motivator for him.
In the end no one cares how you got there but that you got there.
Btw i witnessed a TN free and Cut free team whip the snot out of Bama in 99, in Loser. Also, a pretty doggone good Clausen team in Gainesville in 04.
Juss sayin. Your ship has holes in it
Or..I listened to as much DM as I could this morning. I think I heard all of the OC talk and he's said two things:
1. CJP knows who he is hiring; and
2. If they thought it would help with recruiting to announce an OC before ESD, they would so announce.
Also, I did not hear any of the 95% done, just 'CJP knows who he is hiring.'
Reading between lines 1 and 2, I only see three options:
A. High school coach.
B. Promote from within.
C. A current assistant who either has a less than stellar track record at OC or has never been an OC before. If it is C, it is not someone who has a reputation as a good recruiter.
