Doug Matthews just reiterated...

Yeah, I mean it is what it is. We can't control any of it and no one is asking our opinions. Pruitt knows who it is and has his reasons for not announcing it. it really doesn't matter what we think. Coordinators come and go. It's usually no big deal, not sure why this one has so many people up in arms.
probably because most schools don't take 2.5 weeks to hire coaches that come and go and don't have a history of really messing up their coaching searches beyond all possible measure

Do we know:
1. If Pruitt has offered the job to any candidate?
2. If Pruitt has actually interviewed anyone for the position?
3. How many people on VN need Xanax because of this OC search?
My guess is no one that can prove it truly knows the answer to questions 1 or 2 but that many people can hold their hand up to #3.
It doesn't matter what fans think or want or imagine in their heads. And, it really doesn't matter who Pruitt hires — chances are high that we won't be good offensively next year anyway. It is going to take at least a couple more recruiting classes before we are good on either side of the ball.

Doug said RELAX. The longer it goes the more likely it will be a college bowl coach, a college playoff coach or a NFL coach IMO.

How long should a search take? A Day, Two days, week, couple of weeks, month? Oh, and who or what authoritative body decides that? Is there like a dept of coaching searches or search table they should go by? You? Volnation? I bet it’s the freaking head COACH!

Going by most searches, a week, two max. North Carolina, for example, has hired a head coach and an offensive and defensive coordinator in the same time between when Helton left and now. Colorado already has a HC and a DC. Same with Louisville. Auburn executed an OC search and hired someone in that same time frame as well.

The question becomes why Tennessee hasn't hired anyone yet? Either they have an NFL guy or someone like that, and are working out the kinks, which is good, or they've missed out on all their top guys, which is very bad. It's not time to panic just yet, but I get why some fans are at that point. This school, until proven otherwise, needs to earn trust with any hiring when it comes to football.

Just curious regrahcVol, how do they seem okay with it? :)
Well rheB, the late minute additions postponed other visits to come here. You only get things like that through relationship building.
And relationships are the main thing, followed by playing time, that I see mentioned by recruits. At least the ones that pick a 5-7 school over a Bama or UGA.

And I don't think throwing a new voice/face at those kids a week ago, was gonna play much of a factor.

Let's just face simple facts that has been around as long as a simple football. If you don't have the horses you cannot pull the wagon. It matters NOT who the OC is, the coach it, the game itself depends on the talent and quality of players you have. My wife could take Alabamas second string team and probably win the SEC ! Everybody talks about how great Saban is. However, any team that has the ability to recruit all 5 star players is going to win regardless who the coach is. Even during the down years Alabama never lost its reputation because what the Bear had done. So, it really makes no difference who the OC is until we get much better than AVERAGE players !!!! Also, personally I do not care if nobody on this board agrees with me. This is just the way I feel.

I agree with most of it. I think a great OC can pick up an extra win or two, definitely more than a bad OC.

But I have been on VN long enough to see them crap all over certain names but they go to an Alabama or Georgia and knock-off win after win.
They get tons of likes for saying it at the time, but most on VN don't know sht.

ok, but all the anxiousness in the world is not gonna change a thing. I mean exactly how long or appropriately long should an offensive coordinator search take? What's considered normal and not? A day, week, two weeks? I would say as long as it takes. Oh, and what authoritative body decides that? Is there a committee? A department of Offensive Coordinator search time? Standard search timetable? Just curious.

Okay, let me tell you what someone had to remind me of Tuesday when I was saying the same type of stuff you are.

This is a football message board forum. It was specifically created for discussing football including opinions on a current football coaching search. Of you don't want to talk about the football coaching search on this Football message board forum, fine, but don't tell me not to and then ask some of the same questions everybody else is asking.

Yea, I wasn't really thinking about the aspect of having an OC to actually recruit as much as just not having one.

I was mostly just having fun yesterday and most of my posts could have been in blue.

I am curious how this is going to play out though. A few things just don't make sense to me. And like I said and others have said, if Pruitt had been here a few years and things had been a little better than they have, it might not seem...well, the way it does. Haha.

It also doesn't help that one of my PITA Gator friends I see everyday is asking me what's going on. IDFK. Lol.

Don't tell anyone, but I heard who it is and its gonna be interesting to read all the reactions when its announced next month.

The benefit to Jeremy is, he gets a better feel for which coaches really know their stuff, and have personalities, value systems, and coaching outlooks that might mesh with his. Never hurts to gain more intel on the field, refine your short list.

The benefit to every single one of the guys being interviewed is, it gets their name out there and increases their value in the market. Who knows, maybe being desired by Bama (last year) and Tennessee this year helped Freeze land the HC job at Liberty.

On top of that, some of the interviewees might indeed see the possibility of working for Pruitt in the future, even if it won't be this year. Getting known is just as valuable to up-and-comers as building a database of short list options is to the head coaches.

I just cannot see anyone who is a current OC at a P5 program taking their time to go and interview with Pruitt if they thought he already had a coach for the spot. Pretty sure most of them are going to be busy recruiting.

This is true. Obviously, this is where most folks minds are at on the topic. That being said, if Pruitt gets a good one, we'll all pretty much forget all this drama...except, of course the "solid source" epic thread.
