Doug Matthews just reiterated...

I certainly haven't been in the "panic crowd", but this is the weirdest coordinator search I've ever seen. They've "hired someone", but they are "still interviewing" to "get information"?

That sounds a lot like they haven't hired someone.

Agreed.

Shouldn't their "coordinator" have the information they need to run an offense?

Whole thing sounds like a load of BS from Matthews to the search in general.

New OC.
New OC.
Importantest coach
There'll ever be.
Vols fans will rest easy
When Jeremy
Hires an OC.

- sung in the tune of Abeline, sort of.

The more “think” on it the more it makes sense.... College has a precedent of announcing hires regardless of signing day, bowl games etc... A high school state championship game is a different story though, don’t want to burn recruiting bridges by disrupting a team playing for state championship.
I am officially saying Propst will be in our staff in some capacity

I totally agree and I'm ok with this. If true we will know late tonite or tomorrow.

Plain and simple....this is hogwash. No other team in the history of coaching searches operates like this, no one.

In all reality, pruitt hasn’t hired anyone yet and we seem to be missing out on targets. Anything else is just over-analysis, IMO

I think you’re right, except you’re assuming like everyone else. Assumptions that we are “missing out on targets” is still just conjecture. It may be true, it may not, but suggesting anything like that as fact is still just a guess.

Rickster. - If true - interviewing coaches who think they are interviewing for a OC position when you really just want to get information - How is that honorable? It's unethical and decitful Right?[/QUOTE

Agree. Coaches travel during off/season to sit-in on pro practice camps...etc. they also network during award ceremonies. ‘Faux interviews’ seem a bit shady unless the candidate is well aware of it and may even leverage the exercise into a raise (a whole other kind of shady.)

I hope we don’t hire Propst just because it’s another name we’ll never get right. But we mess up Chaney and Kiffin too.

One day, an OC will be announced, and recruiting will be foremost in everyone's mind.

It's simple, it's not publicly announced because the contract isn't signed/finalized.

And speculation grows because of two main reasons
1. VolNation is a huge source of clickbait, media outlets prey on that
2. Current staff & AD don't release information until it's certain
That just makes way too much sense..... 😂

The only reasons they wouldn't make an announcement IMO is if

1) the new OC is already on staff ( possible )

2) they are in the NFL or a major bowl game ( unlikely....Bama didnt seem to suffer from Pruitt getting announced last year...no respectable NFL guy is jumping to this sh**show)

3) They are getting turned down by everyone and dont have a damned clue what to do ( with all the BS being fed to the media seems likely as well )

Maybe I'm misunderstanding something somewhere, but if this is true, how does he know Pruitt has his guy?
He claims Fulmer told him as much but he did not want Fulmer to tell him who bc he didn’t think he could keep it under wraps. I have never believed Doug to be liar.

Maybe they're discussing shutting the program down.
