Canales was the interim coach at North Texas in 2015 when Tennessee beat the Mean Green at Neyland Stadium, 24-0.
In the week leading up to that game, Butch Jones called Canales "a great friend."
"I have known him for a very long period of time. I have admired him as a play caller, as a quarterbacks coach and as an offensive coordinator," Jones said of Canales before the game in 2015.

No one knows, but him. The man knows this is part of his job and needs to get it right. I’d say he is a lot like any of us, no matter what the salary is for any of us, he needs to do what he can to protect his job status for him and his family, that means getting it right. This is the most money he has earned in his career. He knows this. That’s what I would do. Up to him.

If Mathews is correct, perhaps Pruitt has his guy but is waiting until after the playoffs to announce so it is not a distraction to a team. There are only 4 teams playing for anything that truly matters so it should not matter if it is a coach not in the playoff.

It is possible that it is an NFL guy too. If so, we may have to wait 3 more weeks, or longer, if he coaches on a playoff team.

I’m not sure why it would matter if they announced an NFL guy or not so I think it is someone coaching for one of four college teams.

Or it really is a cluster**** and they are scrambling to find someone which means Pruitt could eventually play it safe and promote Friend or Osevet.

At UT we like to keep teams guessing with our silent commits and our smoke screen coaching searches. It gives the illusion that we don’t know what we are doing but our commitment to excellence on the field says otherwise

I really dont see how waiting makes any sense. Remember, Saban knew Pruitt was coming here during the playoffs last year. And in the tiny chance that it is an NFL guy, then again, no reason to not announce him. The NFL gets rid of coaches all the time during the season.

As much as I hate to say it, your last scenario is the one. Its just a huge cluster**** and we sre moving way down the list like we did when Dooley and Botch was hired.

Propst is who I have predicted for last few days it would be. He plays in state championship dec 12th, thur would be 13th. I say he will be announced as oc on thur. This is just my opinion.

Surely Pruitt will not bring in a guy with ZERO college OC experience at a time when we need a proven OC to get the offense on track. Hopefully Propst is coming in just to say hi or is excepting a role that could lead to a path as an OC way down the road.

Pruitt coming here as a HC is worlds different than an assistant leaving.to be an assistant at another school. Pruitt had a complete staff to put together and a recruiting strategy to figure out. Whoever he hired as OC has none of that to do.

Not knowing how specific contracts/buyouts/and bonuses are worded it's not as easy as just saying they can leave whenever and however they want.

I agree with you, I was just thinking propst in state championship game dec 12th; and in Knoxville on the 13th. Plus it explains why he is keeping it quiet, knowing he has him. Again just my opinion.

Pruitt shouldn’t be rushed into a decision, he deserves to be able to interview every known OC from middle school through Division 3 to decide whether or not he wants to embrace the forward pass. We shouldn’t expect a coach who makes 4 million a year to actually know what he wants out of an OC. That is extremely unreasonable

According to the Tallahassee Democrat (no idea on the cred of this news outlet, VOTE REPUBLICAN!!!)

"Briles is also one of the top candidates for the Tennessee offensive coordinator position. He interviewed for the job on Friday, but didn't lock in with the Vols despite Tennessee's hope that he would do so before interviewing at FSU, according to a source. "

Updating Florida State's search for an offensive coordinator

Not sure how this guy knows this, unless it's being leaked from the FSU side. If this is true I think we're narrowing down to a Friend-ly promotion.........smh.
