Dormady's playing time.

They do. Their first team is still better than their second and third team d Dormady faced. It doesn't change the fact Dobbs made a throw that his detractors said he couldn't make.

No one said he can't make those throws, he just cannot make them with consistency at this point. It is what it is. It's where he's at in his development.

He struggles when he's forced to throw on the move, further than 30 yards, and throws across the field to the outside of the hash.

^^^This x1000! The only clique I subscribe to involves who helps the Vols win the most. :aggressive:[/QUOT EAST]

Me 3. I have gone on record saying best case is probably for Dobbs to surge and finish the year.

That said...if he goes "deer in headlights, run for loss/intentional grounding/throw a pick" mode in the face of Gator front 7 then he needs to sit and watch Quentin try for a series or 2. Jones made a mistake throwing Peterman against them. Hope it doesn't keep him from sending QD in if the first 3 possessions or so don't move the ball. QD touchdown pass while running for his life last night is EXACTLY what will be needed in gainesville. Dobbs has done it in the past. If he can't do it anymore then he needs a clipboard.sorry.

His detractors said he can't make the throw period. He can.

He throws well on the move. He has done it versus SEC teams. He doesn't throw well running for his life, which has been the case.

He hasn't had time to throw it more than 30. When he has had time he has made some and missed some with several drops. No qb will be 100% passing over 30 yards threw the air.

A pass cross field to the outside hash is a bad pass that qbs normally don't make.

Listen, I understand you're a big fan of Dobbs. That's fine. He does a lot of things well, he has to get better at other things too. He gives this team the best chance to win at this point in time.

I'll ask you this, where do you think Dobbs can improve? What are areas he struggles in?

Edit: I'm not sure why you're getting so defensive in regards to Dobbs. He clearly struggles with consistency in these areas. It's not some big secret.

Even the blind squirrel finds an acorn every now and then. No acorn for you today.

No acorn for me. But Butch would have been served to listen to me. Now people are wondering if Dormady should be QB based off last night. So, I'm not totally wrong. All I said is they won't let Dormady sling it because it would open the door for questions about the QB. Seems about right at the moment.

I think it had more to do with having a big lead and not wanting to run up the score.

He let him throw it around a bit in the 3rd, then went ground game down the stretch.

Bingo. They actually let QD throw it around more than I thought they would given the score. Once it got in the 50s, Butch showed some class and shut it down. Vols coulda scored 80 out there last night, and I (for one) am glad they didn't.

Yep. It doesn't matter who the defense is when it comes to going through your progression. This terrible defense had his two primary receivers covered on his first pass, so he went to the third receiver and completed it. Then he drops a dime to a receiver that was covered and finally he scrambles, keeps his eyes downfield and throws a TD. Yes, he wasn't playing an SEC team, but in each of those scenarios I just mentioned he demonstrated the tools that make a great QB.

If you don't see that, then either you are blind or you don't know anything about the QB position. The future is bright for this young man.

Wow that is crazy, so if I throw Touchdown passes to my Brother with my 4 year old defending its the same as DObbs throwing them against Alabama? That is great Logic, I mean I went threw my progressions the teddy bear had mom covered and the dog had the neighbor covered, I sure am glad my 4 year old tripped and I found my brother for the touchdown. I must be ready for the NFL.

Its not the same thing no matter how you look at it. Dormady looked good but it was WCU and not even their starters playing the majority of the game. Evenif it was Dobbs threw 75% with a few drops on top of it. Including a pass that hit Josh Malone in stride 40 yds down field that he Dropped.

Don't let yourself get all worked up...this is Butch...he backs his starters. :cool2:

Yeah...Dormady's awful.....er. :)

I know Dormady looked great!!!! but you can't act like Dormady was awesome and Dobbs is horrible when Dobbs is the clear cut starter. People on here act crazy sometimes.

Dobbs looked good and so did Dormady. Dobbs doesn't have to look bad for Dormady to llok good in a game.

Not sayin replace Dobbs as starter but I would like to see him against Arkansas.
They really struggle against the dual threat QB that can throw it on the run.

If Arkansas plays the way they have the last 2 weeks, you may see Dormady inthe 3rd Quarter. They have been playing like a FCS school here lately. They might not be able to beat Vandy right now.

Lol, nice job taking everything out of context. Notice I said he has the "tools" to be successful. Obviously he would be under more pressure from Alabama than WCU, but he "demonstrated" the ability to go through his reads, make good throws and keep his eyes downfield. Please point out where I said he is the next Peyton Manning and he will trash the Bama defense. Talk about faulty logic.

I think your exact words were and I quote, "Yep. It doesn't matter who the defense is when it comes to going through your progression." I think that means it doens't matter who the defense is since that is what you said.

I never said that you said he was the next Peyron Manning (Or Peyton Manning) He does show potential to be good but to compare what he did against a weak, tired, and broken defense isn't reason to get that excited. If he plays in any of the SEC games beside KY OR Vandy (other than Arkansas I doubt he will) and does that then we may have something. But lets let the kid get his reps and progress and then claim he's the next great QB at UT. He still has a lot of developing to do, lets just hope he doesn't have to get thrown to the wolves against Alabama or Georgia so that he can finish this year as confident QB and not get any of his spirit broken. The Kid can be good someday let's just hope it isn't this week we have to find out.

Wow, you are really a piece of work. I know how to spell Peyton but didn't see I misspelled it on my phone.

I guess the point I'm making is way over your head. If a receiver is covered, it doesn't matter if it is Richard Sherman or your little brother / teddy bear. He's covered, therefore, the QB needs to find another open receiver. Same for dropping in a dime, if your teddy bear is closely guarding the receiver, then it takes skill to complete that pass.

I never said he's the next great thing, I said he has the tools and his future is bright.

I absolutely hate dealing with Negavols on here. You try to say something positive about a kid and here you guys come. :good!:

Obvious by reading these 40+ pages of posts, if you don't think that Dobbs is the greatest and a Heisman potential (that ESPN will blackball), then you are an idiot and a negavol!!

Not a Negavol, I said he did have some things to that are reason for a bright future. What i don't agree with is people saying that he looked better than Dobbs. Not saying you were the one saying it, I am just saying that Dobbs did it against there better players when they were fresh and ready to play. Dormady did it late, that isn't Dormady's fault he still looks like a great talent at QB. But for anyone to imply that he takes Dobbs spot as the Starter is a little bit of a stretch.

Dormady would have looked different against Florida, Georgia, or Alabama I think we can agree. That of course is my opinion, and i beleive if We know anything about Butch Jones we probably won't get to see Dormady at all against those teams unless we are blowing them out or DObbs gets hurt.

I agree with most of what you're saying except for one thing...Dormady got in towards the end of the first half...he wasn't playing against backups.

Kid evaded the rush and rolled to his right, still under pressure, and fired that seed to the corner of the checkerboard.

I know i was at the game. He was however playing against backups when he threw the Touch down pass...in the 3rd Quarter. His first drive in the 2nd Quarter started on like the 3 yd line didn't it after McNeal's return of the interception. Then the second drive they went 3 and out or one first down and then punted. He wasn't playing the fresh starters the entire time. I am not trying to take away from what Dormady did against any competition. You just can't compare it to The way Dobbs managed the game and played. Dobbs looked good and so did Dormady. The QB position has a bright future at UT no matter who the starter is after Dobbs. Go Vols!!!

No...he wasn't, and was as impressive as advertised. Dobbs was not. Even his long completion to Wolf down the seam required a major adjustment and athletic catch. It was thrown behind Wolf. Had it been thrown in stride Wolf is still running.

Dobbs is our best chance, right now. But that throw perfectly illustrates the limitation in his game, and is why they don't call many deep passes from Dobbs. They are not comfortable with something he does. I don't know if its how he sees the field (about half) or his lack of touch and accuracy.

Flame away.
