Dormady v. Guarantano

JD was also injured I believe for a good bit of time which prevented him from getting rated any higher. Atleast according to some analysts and people on here. Just tossing in some info people may not remember, not saying he would've for sure been rated higher just that he had less playing time due to a shoulder injury as I recall.

Didn't Butch recruit and sign Dormady because he thought he could run this offense? Would it make sense for our staff to sign guys who can't run their systen? That doesn't make any sense at all.

Dormady's dad ran a very similar O to Butch's. Just to further illustrate your point.lol

Guarantano has stated before that he expects to redshirt. Dormady gets the reins for 2 seasons after Dobbs leaves unless he really screws up or gets hurt.

Gurantano missed half of his Senior year and became the top dt qb and a top 70 player. Dormady played his whole Sr year and didn't crack the top 250. QD is not as naturally talented nor as highly regarded as some would like to think. There is a reason Dobbs was 100 spot higher and JG almost 200 spots. Its not injuries.

His last interview at the UA game he said he expects to compete for the number 2 job behind Dobbs. I doubt Dormady starts a game unless its due to injury to Dobbs or JG.

He also said he's fine with redshirting...best guy will start in 2017...our votes don't count.

+1.

I believe we have the current 3 headed monster running attack (and dang good one at that) is because of the skill set we have at RB and QB. Yes, the coaches knew what Dormady's skillset was when recruiting. He's a capable runner, but his arm and mind are his strengths.

As has been documented here on more than a few occasions, is that Butch's offense has had more ProStyle QB starters than DT during his tenures at CMU and UC. In no way is our staff bound to a run-first QB by Xs & Os. Butch has said so specifically and even scoffed at the opposite idea in interviews. I think people see spreads, some zone reads, and hurry ups, and just assume we're trying to be Oregon. Butch is not.

I would love to see them recruit a great PS QB, then great DT QB over and over, and allow them to run combinations of packages (Schaeffer/Ainge flashback). I have a feeling Dormady gets more than scrub time next season as CMD works him in on a few designed packages. Puts pressure on defenses and game plans.

Hopefully JG gets a developmental RS year. I expect he and QD to battle it out for the starter in 17'. Would love to hang on top both for the variety of packages and for the quality depth. All while seasoning a couple of new QBs in the background.

Guarantano will be the successor to Dobbs. His skillset is a better match for the offense.

He's the starter opening game 2017.

Hmmm. You are basing this on him never playing a down in college and our schedule with SEC opponents yet you seem to have the answer already. All I'v seen to the point on him is he really struggled in the all star game going 1-7. I've witnessed Dormady play already and have been impressed with him in limited playing time.

Guarantano will have a lot to prove over the next season and spring training before I cast him as the starter for 2017.

He's looked less than stellar by most accounts so far. Means nothing of course and Dormady has already shown an advanced skill set. Absolutely no way to accurately predict the starter for 2017.

It will probably come down to how well Guarantano is able to learn the system and get it down in a year. I'd feel better about his chance if he was an early enrollee. He has the perfect skill set for our offense, IMO, but Dormady is no slouch and will have had much more experience and time in the system.

I'm interested to see how it plays out. We'll probably see a good bit of them both in 2017.

Quinten Dormady vs Jarrett Guarantano.

So how are we expecting this QB competition to play out exactly? With Dobbs obviously returning one more season I just don't see Butch retaining both of these guys. As of now Dormady is the front runner once Dobbs graduates. I don't see a guy with as much potential as Guarantano sitting for three years waiting his turn over Dormady. Unless Dormady balls out his junior year and goes pro and even then that'd still leave Guarantano sitting two years.

Thoughts?

I think it is a little early to be considering this.

Recruits get their placing from the sites usually when they are juniors. JG was already ranked around that going into his senior year. QD missed all his junior season but in his senior year he jumped from a 2*/3*, depending on the site, to a 4*.

JG is the first true Dual-threat guy in a LONG time to come to UT.... imagine someone who can run like Dobbs, and can actually throw...accurately.... unfortunately I believe Dormady will stay a backup at UT. Dobbs leaves and JG has had a year in the system to watch and develop and then he will run the offense like a champ.

I agree here the times that Dormandy has been in I my self have not seen him do much running the offense I would go with jg in 2017 as the starter.

This is the most outlandish statement EVER. For one, you haven't seen Guarantano take the field in college ball yet, have you? For two, we've actually seen Dormady on the field and he throws a better deep ball than Dobbs probably ever will. He's not a Dobbs-style passer ... although he can still tuck and run. So how do you even make a statement like that? It's utter BS.

I'm basing my opinion off of games and practice. What are you basing the myth of Dormady's better arm off of? If he can't look better than Dobbs against back ups or in practice why would he be a way better passer magically when he starts a real game?

Based on what? Dormady hasn't thrown better from what we saw.

He was also the lowest ranked qb on campus.

247 composite rankings
Dobbs 165 overall 4 star
S Jones 254 overall 4 star
J Jennings 167 overall 4 star
Dormady 262 overall 4 star
Gurantano 71 overall #1 DT Qb.

Dormady is the lowest rated qb we have for a reason. He is not some 5 star sure fire pro like some act. Gurantano is one of those type players though.

You know.

What about Dormady makes him so different from every other QB we have on campus?

I just can't seem to put my finger on it. 👀

One of these things is not like the other. 😝

What? The kid hasn't taken a meaningful snap yet. And in his limited time against backups has been less than distinguished.

FYI he's thrown for the same number of TD passes as WR Jauan Jennings.

This Dormady hype is getting out of hand. He's done nothing to warrant the hype. And wasn't highly touted coming in either.
