This has gotten plainly obvious. Dobbs has the most turnovers of any QB in the sec. He has thrown behind receivers, bounced one hoppers at their feet, and lofted up unimaginable interceptions at crucial times of a game.

Dobbs probably should have been a receiver, but at best a backup QB. Yeah, he has made some great runs on broken plays, but his passing skills and reads on the option are really bad.

This game with Tenn Tech is most opportune time to make the switch before we finish out the schedule of sec opponents. Freshman Bentley of SC proved why the QB position can provide the difference in the results of a game. He made no turnovers while under pressure from Barnett and Vereen on several occasions. The freshman kept his cool, made the right decisions, and handled their game plan like a veteran.

Possibly Dormady doesn't have the same ability, but he sure deserves the opportunity. The only defense of Dobbs is that he has worked without a good OLine. Well, maybe Dormady or Sheiron Jones could handle that situation better. Butch will never know if he doesn't give one of them a chance.

Haven't seen Dormady much, but what I have seen doesn't make me think he'd improve things.

I have a real hard time with this op. First and foremost Dobbs has earned his right to lead this team thru his senior year. Secondly this team needs the only playing captain on the team, and thirdly there is not a single piece of evidence that Dormady can perform under the circumstances. This team is emotionally very fragile at this point in time, absolutely no need to hammer that crack.

You are correct, Dormady needs his shot....in the second half against Tech when we are up by 24, and hopefully in the remaining games in mop up time.

Dobbs is the starter man and should be for the remainder of his senior year. Despite his limitation, that guy is in my top favorite Vols ever. Dude has put this team on his back numerous times and straighr willed them to victory.

Coaches, stop trying to make him a pocket passer.

Dobbs, go be Josh Dobbs for 5 more games man.

Did you see the Orange and White game this year? Dormady might be a slightly more accurate passer than Dobbs but Dormady's running ability is far inferior to Dobbs (See Justin Worley running the ROP).

Devils Advocate: There is not a single piece of evidence that Dormady will NOT be a huge improvement over Dobbs.

This team is emotionally very fragile: Yes, and if Dormady gets in and throws for 400 yards and doesn't over throw Jennings, Malone, Crooms, Smith or Byrd, then the team will get a spark.....

Dobbs earned the right to start this season with last year'a play. However just as you can earn a spot, you can earn a spot not to play. Any other coach would give Dobbs the hook a longtime ago. No confidence we beat U.K. With Dobbs and I believe we will struggle with vandy as well. Dobbs is playing because Butch feels bad about breaking his redshirt promise.

Yep, this team is emotionally fragile....and there are 2 players not injured right now that they look to for leadership....Derek Barnett....and Joshua Dobbs!

QD goes thru reads quickly (Bama game) and makes quick decisions.

We also had no confidence that he would lead the team back agaisnt SC last year, UF, UGA, A and M this year.

Agree, but only if we continue to persist in using Dobbs in the pocket. If they utilize him by running the 2 minute offense from the beginning and let him roll out, scramble, and throw on the run, then I believe Dobbs will be the most effective QB we can pt on the field. But he is not a true pocket passer no matter how much they want to make him into one.

Dobbs could be involved and lead in other ways. And something tells me he is the type of leader that would be perfectly ok with that if it led to wins.

Dobbs has played pretty poorly this season but he is still our best option. And he deserves to finish his career out. It's easy to forget just how good he was last year. Before the severe offensive regression, he had a very solid season in 2015 and showed some remarkable athletic plays. His arm was never the best but he made due.

Unfortunately, there was no improvement this year. Still, with the little I have seen of Dormady I have no reason to believe he makes it better. Letter Dobbs finish it out and begin the Age of Guarantano next year.

The backup QB is always very popular when the starter isn't great.

Especially when the starter has thrown 11's picks, made several fumbles, and has led by example by committing more turnovers than any QB in the sec.

It's not personal. I like Dobbs like everybody else, but he isn't performing well. I really don't know why our fans are averse to trying something else to judge the results, rather than carte blanche dismissing the alternatives.

But obviously I'm clueless like one of our kind poster pointed out. Should we begin apologizing for having an opinion?

If we're not gonna let Dobbs be Dobbs and run the ball, then I don't see the point of starting him. He is clearly a liability in the passing game, so what is there to lose if they keep trying to make him a pocket passer?

Dobbs critical mistakes cancel out any good he does. Give Dormady a shot for a couple series. If anything, maybe it will light a fire under Dobbs.

Right, the only thing he does well...well, he never does.

There won't be a fire lit under Dobbs. He has no NFL prospects and is clearly just running out the clock until he can stop playing football and become a full time student.

Dormady has been worse than Dobbs in practice, camp, and limited game time. Why would he be better now? Dobbs has had some great games. He had one bad game just like every other qb since football started. You don't bench him for an inferior player because of one bad game.
