Dooley's future at UT (merged)

Does anyone realize that we HAD to hire Dooley because no other college coach would take the job? It was late Jan. and right in the middle of recruiting season so we were desperate. Usually decisions done in desparation lead to failure. Dooley has only 1 win (Cinncinatti 2011) over a team that finished over .500 since he became head coach at La. Tech in 2007. Dooley is a heck of a recruiter but beyond that... Some vol fans will get angry to hear that Dooley should only be a coordinator and isnt head coach material. Just remember never get so locked into a coach that you cant see his flaws. Can you can believe some people didnt want to fire Bill Battle or Wade Houston? Some people support a coach no matter what. Dont' believe me Dooley is that bad a coach? Then get on Wikipedia and search Derek Dooley. Calculate the records of all the teams he beat. It may suprise you.

We did not have to hire anyone. We could have given Kippy the interim tag until we found the right guy, but no Hamilton scrambles and hires a WAC loser after three days.

Stop looking for blame for a cultural issue. Our team has to learn to win as a team. Out coaching staff is fine.

i know this is a joke.It has to be.this coaching staff sucks.look at the record since hes been here.Took a LB coach and made him a DC.smart move.

Who is Dooley going to beat besides Akron or Kentucky? Bama ? How about the three road games at Georgia, at South Carolina, or at Miss. St. Dooley's teams have never played well on the road in the SEC. Tell me where the wins are going to come from? The psyche of this team is shot. You gave up 17 straight points and your best players fell apart at home. I just dont see this team going on the road and grabbing a win after losing to Florida. The mental toughness just isnt there. The next 4 SEC games would put him at 5 losses with a four game losing streak. Now you drag a depressed and down 5 loss Tenn. into a games with Missouri and Vandy and you have potential for another loss or two. Tell me where Tenn is going to get its other wins 'cause I just dont see it.

All those people who cut us down for never liking Dooley... WHERE ARE YOU NOW? Huh? Got anymore convenient little excuses for Dooley?

Because guess what? We have depth now. We have talent. We have experience. We are evenly matched with, if not better than, this Florida team on paper. So none of those excuses are going to work anymore.

And we're getting destroyed.

Holy crap we are not evenly matched with Florida talent wise.

I have always supported CDD, but I think I am ready for a change also.... I really hate to say it though..

Me too. I wanted some stability but I want to win more. Great guy. Maybe we can promote him to assistant AD. Then we can hire a football coach.

We had the better QBs and WRs. Offensive is line about even. They run it better we pass protect better. D- line about even. They have the edge at Safety but its about even at CB. LB about even. TE even to slight edge to us because of Rivera. We had the talent to beat Florida, but we choked. It was a mental breakdown and that falls on the coaches. The defense is still lining up incorrectly just like they did when Dooley first got here. The secondary was scramblin several times to get lined up right against Florida. Remember LSU in 2010 and the personnel issues that put 13 men on the field? We are still having assignment and formation problems on defense. Even after changing coordinators its still a problem.

Dooley's buyout is too expensive and we don't consistently sell enough tix to can him until the end of NEXT year. Mike hamilton may have single-handedly killed BOTH bball and football at UT. It sucks sooo bad, but I'm still repping the Big Orange to the fullest...

We'd lose much more money from unsold tickets next year than we would paying Dooley's buyout if he's brought back after another mediocre/bad season.

Wish we had Louisiana Monroe's talent?????? Guess we should just let the top recruiting schools have it all and not even play........... Hmmmmmm

8-4, outside of top 10 recruiting class, and Dooley stays will probably means lots and lots of season tickets unsold IMO.

I don't think I can handle another year of the product he's putting on the field. I would also imagine that recruiting will be down this year and next due to recruits seeing that Dooley is not a winner. I would hate to waste all the talent we have now on Dooley and co. The rebuilding job we will be at the end of this year would be very minimal for a coach with a pulse.

As long as we can accept that we'll never beat UF we'll be fine. People act like we were gonna contend for a championship. Be realistic.

I'll tell you where Dooley is losing in my book...it's recruiting Some may say...no big deal...we're in the top 20, but we are 9th right now (Rivals) in recruiting just in our own conference alone. I'm sorry guys but unless we get a GREAT recruiter, Tennessee is not going to compete.

Florida outmatched us with talent and does just about every year. Yeah, we have some talent at skilled positions but these JV guys do not need to be the norm. How many skilled players will we have next season? Saban is great because he sells a great product and players buy into his brand. He has depth beyond depth. We need a salesman and a coach. Dooley is a great guy...no doubt...but he is NOT going to get us back to a premiere football program. He's just not capable of producing that kind of brand at this stage. I don't think Dooley is a bad coach, just not SEC caliber. If he had built a presence elsewhere and earned some bragging points, then maybe, but that just isn't the case.

We are going to need someone like a Petrino. Someone who has proven they can produce results and win big games. To attract top offensive talent, you need an innovator. Sorry but Jim Chaney isn't. Let's see run on first, pass on second. He is crazy predictable.

Heck...at the rate we're going, Penn St may be relevant before we are. I've been a Dooley supporter all along, and it pains me to say, but it may be time for a change.

Can't argue there.

Dooley has 8 games left to prove himself. However, if he doesn't get it done, one of the first coaches I would consider is Penn State's coach. He is getting every last ounce of effort out of that team. I've been to one of their games and saw it firsthand. He is going to be a great head coach.

Muschamp is a better coach than Dooley, Dooley will never beat a good SEC team, Dooley was a desperation hire. he couldnt even win in the MAC whats making these Dooley supporters think he's right for the job? hes not we will go 7-5 at BEST mark it down AT LEAST WHEN FULMER WAS HERE WE COULD RUN THE BALL!!!!!!! GET THIS WANNA BE SEC COACH OUT OF HERE!!! HES ONLY GOOD FOR SOUNDBITES THATS IT!!!!! We WONT beat UGA , BAMA, SCAR, MSU, OR MIZZOU maybe not Vandy! mark my word.

This thread is total BS.

Dooley put the pieces together. We all knew it would be at least 4 years before we were solid again. Why people on this board lose all sanity when we lose is beyond me.

Regardless of tonight's outcome, we were optimistic because we know we're CLOSE to being back to consistent competitors!!

Yes, I hate how pass-happy we get at times. Yes, I hate how our team seems to give up when we're down big. But if you think firing CJC is gonna make us better next season and yet another HC change is gonna improve team chemistry and morale, you're delusional.

We're still 2-1, and will be 3-1 heading into UGA. We should be well-settled into our defense and new players will be integrated in our offense by then, making us more competitive as we get into the thick of our schedule.

Have some faith...it's still early. GO VOLS!!

How long did it take Saban (Dooley's supposed mentor) to turn Bama into a powerhouse? What, 1 season? 2? And Dooley needs 4 years? Why? We have alot of talent on the field. The play calling and coaching is suspect. I just don't know that he can compete at this level. He's not ready, it was a big shot for him and he has blown it. Hate it for him, truly, I mean we're fans and it's our beloved team but it's his job that supports his family - his livelihood. But he's also not doing his job, so I hate to say it but I'm just about ready for Dooley and Tennessee to part ways.
