No coach would touch UT without some guarantee they would have a few seasons to get things going.

Dooleys contract is actually a good one. Protects both the school and coach.

It protects the school if the coach is successful; otherwise its punitive to the school. We could go 6-6 the next 2 years and have to pay $4 million to cut bait, right?

Yea and our best player you are talking about Kiffin also brought in. So what is you point. If DD didn't have Kiffins EE we would really be in trouble.

My point is give him time 2 more years and kiffen only brought in bray and hunter but dooley had to convince them to stay with the others

Apparently a lot of schools were beating down the door to hire a coach who was 4-8 at La Tech, so Hamilton had to convince him to come with a huge buyout.

Yeah especially after we had all those quality coaches beating down the doors to come coach for UT.

You've furthered my point. If we had to settle for some bum off the street, why did we have to give him such a strong buyout? Obviously wasn't a great candidate to begin with.

Exactly! Let the man fulfill his contract. Gotta give him 5 years. This was a mess

Mike's last gift to the Vol Nation.

Seriously, this man should not be allowed to set foot in the state of Tennessee ever again.

How he managed to keep the athletic department in the black with foolishness like this is nothing short of a miracle. But then again, I guess that's why football tickets are no longer covered by the activity fee.

on here one damn dime. That money comes from donors and the VASF and we got the money to rid ourselves of this excuse making clown. Quit talking about we can't afford it when you have no clue what you are saying.

Interesting that his buyout is this much given what we went through with Kiffin. I expected much less for a buyout.

I always wonder where the beginning of your posts go

Many of these contract negotiations are incestuous. Most of the coaches and a lot of the ADs use the same agent. This guy is the problem.

Jimmy Sexton Speaks About Some Of His Clients - Sports Agent Blog

While the coaches and ADs don't have a meeting to collude on the price, with having the same agent it's obvious that they're agent knows what the others make and the agent has undue leverage in negotiations when he represents the AD and the coach both. There needs to be a firewall between the AD and the coach when contracts are negotiated. Any University board that allows one agency to represent their coaches and AD both deserves the screwing they get.
