Dooley was always a 3 yr coach

Yes. Courage.

Dooley by most reports had the opportunity to follow Saban to Bama presumably as a coordinator. He chose to take over a struggling mid-major instead. By almost all accounts, he was turning that program around when UT came calling. It was a great early opportunity for him... or one that could send him back to begging someone for a position coach job. He considered the career risks and took the job when more "prominent" coaches said no.

FWIW, he was an assistant on one of LSU's NC teams, coached with the Dolphins, and was a GA at UGA. At the time he took the HC job, most would consider those more "prominent" programs than UT.

Every time you do one of these hit and run deals you show ignorance of the topic you post on... enough ignorance to give credence to the idea that you are nothing more than a troll fan of another school.

It doesn't take "courage" to leave La Tech for Tennessee. It takes a functioning brain.

Dooley wanted the job and knew what he was getting into. Was I happy someone wanted the job? Yes. I even wrote a blog about it. Should we turn him into a martyr for it? I say no way. He is a big boy...getting paid real money to do a job. Now he has the tools to prove himself capable of doing it.

That 17-20 record at La Tech meant he was really building something there. He was even his own boss in Ruston.

It takes a saint to leave such a promising place to come to Knoxville.

1. What some call courage, others call hitting the coaching lottery.

2. I would like to see a link that says Dooley was being considered for an OC job by Nick Saban. Lol. Don't backtrack and say you meant something like "recruiting coordinator" or "special teams coordinator.' When you say coordinator it means one of two positions.

He has the tools in the form of a new class coming in? Yes. He has players with another year of experience? Somewhat.

We don't know what the new class is truly capable of until they get here and start playing and the older players didn't exactly show that they had improved much towards the end of the season. So, I'm not positive that he truly does have the "tools needed".

Truth Hurts. Go Vols

He was the only one willing to take the UT job because of the condition we were in with lack of scholarship players and such. Even though he is going to get fired after this season, he was still useful because he got us out of the hole we were in with 3 coaches in 3 years. The job is going to be much more attractable after this season than what it was 3 years ago. We should be able to get a real coach who actually makes adjustments during games, doesn't criticize our players to the media and someone who doesn't scare off assistant coaches and players...oh, and someone who wont wear orange pants.

Why do you want CDD to fail? I'm a Volunteer fan first not a fan of coaches. That was true with CPF, Kiffin and CDD. I will agree this is the season he must show he can win in the SEC. It has been a long painful road since the end of the 2007 season and I definitely want the football team to have a winning record this season. That includes a winning record in the SEC where we have become irrelevent. But to simply write a coach off is wrong. I have no idea how the team will perform this season but I want them to win the East and the SEC. This is a pipe dream maybe, but I'm hoping all the new coaches will get these kids to perform up to their ability. If CDD fails to get a winning record I do believe it may be time for a coaching change but I absolutely don't want that to happen.

As would I. I find it very hard to believe that a coach with Dooley's history would be offered a coordinator position at Alabama.

To win the SEC or a NC Id say no, and still a ways to go.

To win 9 or 10 games, and out coaching similar talent yes.

Offense should be ready to put points on the board with or without the new additions. I'm more confident in the returning talent than I have been in a long time.

Coach Dooley as we all know has been a junction. a coach that has taken the universiity from a trainwreck no-one else wanted to touch to a university that is on the comeback. Some would like to offer that coach Dooley is the answer to SEC championships and if he is I sure hope he is. That said the next hurdle is beating either Florida or Alabama, not just the singular upset but a several year run. If that is accomplished thats when we'll see new coach dialouge on a national level, not because coach Dooley did'nt accomplish goals, but bacause coach Dooley brought the university back to an area where coaches could put their resume on the line. The university of Tennessee is almost in tandem with the economy, a level of success must be attained before a coach will take the reigns and attach his name to the program. It is about success, money, and recent tradition, and we wonder why athletes only wanna be recruited by winning programs. It falls upon the current roster to develope chemistry..winning games they have no right to win per the talking heads. That accomplished, if its accomplished....then you'll see success and big name coaches in the hunt for the Vols reigns. Untils that day comes....it falls upon the current roster to over-acheieve, thats how champions are made.

Welcome back Dan.

Saban had Jimbo Fisher as his OC all his years at LSU and he had Scott Linehan and Mike Mularky as his OC at Miami. All three guys are good offensive coordinators. Why would you fire them to promote someone with no experience at calling plays?

It was a rebuilding job. It doesnt happen overnight. Look at Brady Hoke's record at Ball State. It took him 5 years to have a winning record. Look how long it took Spurrier at USCjr. He took over a 3-10 La Tech team and the WAC was arguably the best mid-major conference.

Repeat after me....Jon Gruden, Jon Gruden. Should have heard his talk on the local talk show on Friday, what a campaign speech!!!

I hope Gruden never becomes the HC at Tennessee.

The only thing he's ever proven is that he could take a team that Tony Dungy built over several years to the Superbowl they were headed to anyway and then tear down that team and get fired.

Gruden at Tennessee would suck worse that 1 year of kiffScum helping destroy us more.

VFL...GBO!!!

Don't buy, considering Dooley has never ever been a coordinator, nor seems like the coordinating type.
