First, a little anecdote. Mick Cronin was an assistant to Bob Huggins at Cincinnati. He decided he needed to broaden his resume to get a head coaching job. To that end, he interviewed with Rick Pitino at Louisville without telling Huggs. He got the job. When he told Huggs he had gotten the job, Huggs smiled and told him "Congratulations. Good thing you got the job there because you weren't going to have one here anymore." If Wilcox is talking to Texas and contacting assistants at other schools about joining him in Austin, he should be fired immediately.

Whoever gets the job as Texas' next defensive coordinator will have his pick of the nation's best D-line instructors, and, right now, the Bears' Tosh Lupoi is undoubtedly part of that upper echelon.
With Wilcox expected to be announced as the new Longhorns DC within the next several days, sources say that he will come hard after the Rivals.com 2010 Recruiter of the Year, and he'll have a lot with which to tempt Tosh.
If it happened without permission from Dooley, I agree 100%.
First off, I agree Hat. If Wilcox was not upfront about his intentions with Dooley then I think he should be fired.
Second, the buyout is a non issue for both teams.
Third, in what other profession can you search for another job on the sly and after getting outed not get canned. And perhaps even a raise. Its comical.

If you are not continually looking for a better job then you are cheating yourself.
If you work for an employer that would fire you for trying to get a better job then you should quit immediately.
If Wilcox is talking to Texas and contacting assistants at other schools about joining him in Austin, he should be fired immediately.
Disagree completely. Obviously, you have no idea how the coaching business works. There is not a head coach in the country that would make that move. Talk about something that would cause coaches to not want to come here. You show interest on another job? You're fired. That's the most ridiclious thing I've ever heard. Nobody would want to come here and work under those rules.
Coaches on every staff in the country do this all the time. Often, when coaches are contacted by a school for a coordinator position, they're asked who they would bring in as position coaches.
I don't understand this knee-jerk reaction to a coach being rumored to be interested in another job. I can't even beieve this is a real discussion. When I clicked on this thread, I thought it was somebody being sarcastic.

Yeah, I don't know anything about the coaching business. I'm sure your contacts in that arena vastly outweigh mine.Disagree completely. Obviously, you have no idea how the coaching business works. If I'm working for an employer that is ok with me going behind his back then I'm probably worried about what that employer is doing behind mine too.....
