Dooley Should Make An Example Of Wilcox.

First, a little anecdote. Mick Cronin was an assistant to Bob Huggins at Cincinnati. He decided he needed to broaden his resume to get a head coaching job. To that end, he interviewed with Rick Pitino at Louisville without telling Huggs. He got the job. When he told Huggs he had gotten the job, Huggs smiled and told him "Congratulations. Good thing you got the job there because you weren't going to have one here anymore." If Wilcox is talking to Texas and contacting assistants at other schools about joining him in Austin, he should be fired immediately.

maybe you need to stick to BB.:hi:

It's pretty obvious most of the posters on this board have never been an employer. Having employees out trying to get a better gig is fine. You don't want employees hanging around like moss on a rock - that's what the Fulmer regime was all about.

If you have employees that are not being recruited you should get rid of them. Plain and simple.

Dooley has a list in a drawer with replacement DC's and OC's ready to pull out and make phone calls at any time.

I think the headline of the Rivals article, "Wilcox gunning for Lupoi?", is a bit misleading. From what I read, the author was just speculating on Lupoi's potential candidacy.

Whoever gets the job as Texas' next defensive coordinator will have his pick of the nation's best D-line instructors, and, right now, the Bears' Tosh Lupoi is undoubtedly part of that upper echelon.

With Wilcox expected to be announced as the new Longhorns DC within the next several days, sources say that he will come hard after the Rivals.com 2010 Recruiter of the Year, and he'll have a lot with which to tempt Tosh.

Not saying it may not be true, but I've not read or heard anything about Wilcox actually contacting anyone.

First off, I agree Hat. If Wilcox was not upfront about his intentions with Dooley then I think he should be fired.

Second, the buyout is a non issue for both teams.

Third, in what other profession can you search for another job on the sly and after getting outed not get canned. And perhaps even a raise. Its comical.

If it happened without permission from Dooley, I agree 100%.

This.

If he went behind his back then Dooley should drop him like a bad habit. Wilcox, however talented he may be, is not irreplaceable.

Its not an ideal situation nor do I wish its true but I certainly don't want a highly ranked staff member who perceives UT as anything but a destination job--or at the very least the best place to build your resume on the way to a HC career.

If you are not continually looking for a better job then you are cheating yourself.

If you work for an employer that would fire you for trying to get a better job then you should quit immediately.

The only time I wouldnt agree with this is if he was in talks for being a head coach somewhere.

I guess if you go to the big 12 all you have to do is hold your opponent under 35 and you have a good chance at winning.

defenses suck there (besides NEB)

Agree if he actually is contacting Texas and especially Tosh. I think Dooley agrees and has publicly said the same with the whole talk about 1000s being ready to take Wilcox's job.

Hat, just curious, who would you pursue if you were Dooley? Seems like some names being thrown around are Shannon, Diaz, Chavis, Steele, Thompson, Whithers etc. I'd love to see us pull Shannon but I really don't see that happening.

If he is talking to other schools without Coach Dooley's knowledge, and if he is pulling an "Oregron" and calling other assistants about coming with him to Austin, he should be fired immediately. Something like that should have been in his contract, and if it's not, it better be in the next time we hire a coach on any level.

That being said, this is the first I've heard about Wilcox supposedly doing something like this. I'd have thought that if such allegations would have been prominently flying around before now . . . oh well, I hope he wants to stay, but if he's not committed, I say he can not only go to Texas, but he can also go to hell as far as I'm concerned. I'm not holding anything against a guy looking for a big payday. I just don't want anyone around our program that isn't committed to lifting Tennessee back up to the level where we belong.

If I'm working for an employer that is ok with me going behind his back then I'm probably worried about what that employer is doing behind mine too.....

Totally agree Hat. It's not like it's Gus Mahlzan and Auburn where the departure of the former ensures the death of the latter.

I respectfully disagree. To each his own. I much prefer to show loyalty and keep my integrity. :hi:

I will be shocked if Wilcox is here more than a day after the bowl game. Screw TEXAS!

Disagree completely. Obviously, you have no idea how the coaching business works. There is not a head coach in the country that would make that move. Talk about something that would cause coaches to not want to come here. You show interest on another job? You're fired. That's the most ridiclious thing I've ever heard. Nobody would want to come here and work under those rules.

Coaches on every staff in the country do this all the time. Often, when coaches are contacted by a school for a coordinator position, they're asked who they would bring in as position coaches.

I don't understand this knee-jerk reaction to a coach being rumored to be interested in another job. I can't even beieve this is a real discussion. When I clicked on this thread, I thought it was somebody being sarcastic.

You obviously know nothing about respect. Dooley can not let assistant coaches hold him hostage. If they don't want to be here then get out now.

Yeah, I don't know anything about the coaching business. I'm sure your contacts in that arena vastly outweigh mine.

I agree. Employment is a 2 way street. My current employer has fired people in the last 2 weeks for seeking employment with a competitor. It doesn't mean you shouldn't look to better yourself, it just means that there are consequences to every decision and we should be aware of them.
