Dooley on Basilio

and that is Nick Saban. You can learn, you can watch and take notes but trying to be someone else is just smoke and mirrors. I love Warren Buffet, can I follow his exact strategy and become a billionaire? Same concept with Dooley, he will ultimately have to stand on his own regardless of who's persona he emulates.
I haven't seen direct evidence that he's trying to be Saban. Every good professional in whatever line of work they're in will try to adopt and adapt things they admire about others in their profession.
All this process bs is just that unless he can recruit and that jury is still out bigtime...
You almost had a relevant, sensible post then you just had to didn't you?

No. Process isn't bs. It is the means by which you accomplish what you're after. When you see raw plastic, rubber, steel, etc roll into one end of an auto factory and a car roll out the other... there's a process in between that has at least as much to do with the quality of the car as the raw materials.

You also keep implying... even after being shown embarrassingly wrong... that Dooley isn't in on good recruits. You just need to give that one up until you have some real, tangible proof. Right now, it is just words coming out of the mouths of 17 year olds... but at some point we'll see commitments and solid recruiting evaluations. Then we'll know how "bigtime" the jury is really out.

Fijivol - Dooley has been standing on his own for quite sometime. Saban never had to prop him up. What Saban did do was give Dooley every opportunity he could to coach and learn different aspects: TE, RB, RC, ST, AHC and he excelled in each spot which is why Saban took him to Miami. The last 3 years at Tech, Dooley refined his HC philosophy as he turned that program around. That experience has allowed him to hit the ground running at UT and start restructuring your program which was in a mess. Be glad he's there. Fire him if he fails, but you might want to wait and see what he does 1st. I've followed his career since he went into coaching and have seen many of his games at SMU, LSU, Miami and Tech. I'm looking forward to watching Tennessee play now that he is your coach.

it seems that alot of people think that Dooley tries to emulate Nick Saban when he sets a policy or answers a question but i dont really see it. Dooley seems plenty confident in himself. is it hard to understand that he would run his program in the same manner that he was successful in as a staff member? did Kiffin not bring the same program style that he was familiar with at USC? open practices? shirt ripping?

The answer is a resounding "yes," and one thing I am disappointed that others don't make a big issue about is that the predecessor even took it further than that. The &*%$ even went so far as to take down the photos of Volunteers and put up &*&%ing photos of Trojans in our facilities. How anybody can still be duped and support that *&%&$bag after knowing that is beyond me.

you mean the Clawson that was so bad he got a D-I HC gig after leaving UT?

the process produces wins. It's not a difficult concept to me

ya know a year and half later i still cannot figure out how clawson landed that job. when fulmer was in his last season it is true he had lost his luster a little. but clawson to me is the reason that the walls came tumbling down on us.. he can't call a decent play with stud athletes but can go to bowling green and win 7 games. wth?

Does the Clawfense get blamed for the 2005 season too?

What a dumb post. You obviously know nothing about success. If you want to be successful in anything, be it life in general or sports, you follow an example of someone who has achieved success. There are no better examples of college football success than Saban, Myer or Carroll.

Clawson was told two things that weren't true. He was told he would have the latitude to do what was necessary to implement his system and get his own players... basically that he would have control. Most agree that Fulmer meddled from the start.

Second, it was at least implied that he would have time to break things down then build them back up like he'd done before.

Clawson is a very good coach. He's a victim of Fulmer's mess... not a cause of it. If you want to blame an assistant... blame Chavis whose laziness contributed to the decline in talent at UT.
