Dooley = Genuis?

You're proving my point! CDD has had 2.5 years from the worst the program has been in 40 years! It was even worse off than when Majors took over--and CPF had every advantage and still could only produce .615 and 5-7 against our toughest opponents...My point is--2.5 years isn't nearly enough time to give a fair evaluation of CDD--how do you know if he has "IT" until he goes through 4 recruiting classes? At least give him until the end of this season...

Derek Dooley couldn't hold Phil Fulmer's donut.

Could you please post some of the reasons that you think Dooley should stay, so we can better understand what you consider a reason. I can't wait to be blinded by your brilliance.

Just go back to the previous page. I posted why I'm more optimistic about UT football than pessimistic. I'm tired of seeing the same arguments over and over again. All you guys can come with is garbage like "the record speaks for itself" or "we've become Kentucky" or "this is Tennessee we shouldn't have to rebuild". You all don't consider why we are having to rebuild, or how big of a job it is. You just look at a guy like Dooley, who is working his a** off to change the state of the program, and you ungrateful pricks call him awful names. Instead of doing that, why don't you at least be thankful that he came here and built the roster back up and got Gameday back in Knoxville. If he's not the right man for the job, at least we don't ever hear about recruiting violations or have to worry about reading the paper the next morning. At least you selfish brats should acknowledge that the next guy in line will be in a ton better position than even Kiffin was. Dooley might not be the guy, but he's made the program a heck of a lot more attractive for another coach.

Okay...let's give him until the end of the season. Heck, let's just go ahead and give him '13 to be safe.
Fair enough?

Now...what will your argument be this time next season? One more year to really let things settle down?

Fulmers' last 3 years were his final downfall, and his numbers were better than Dooleys' numbers are thus far. Why is there even a debate here?

And by the way the OP now has 109 likes. Which is way more than you negative nancies will ever get.

Most of us are on the fence, like many logical people. Erik Ainge, who everyone here says provides the best analysis in Knoxville has admitted he's a tweener. That's where we are mostly. If Dooley gets another year and any get it done, then he needs to go. You guys are jumping the gun without looking at the situation.

You shouldn't call people names just because they have higher standards of performance than you do.

You know another name for someone with high standards? A snob? You wouldn't happen to come from money, do you?

I feel like you guys are on some sort of MTV show for teenagers.

Great post OP. Nice, thought out opinion. I see the thread has been hijacked by the minority grudenites. Pay them no heed. They have a severe case of squeaky wheel syndrome.

No way you posted something this long, I guess I forced to read it since it got 115 likes. Must be for Dool Aid drinkers. I have to take a swig this time.

Stop the Madness!!!

Dooley a genius??? Someone is living in a fantasy world!!!

I guess pitching a fit during a post game press conference, and losing his mind on the sideline is part of his master plan.

Its Johnny majors 2.0. Omg Johnny used to drive me crazy he took forever to field a team worth a crap n then he sucked for a few years then good again.

Im not signing up for another Johnny majors rebuild... sorry we don't need to..

:machgun::gun:I dont buy this. Team needs 8-4 to keep the same coach next year. MSU is Colonel Dooley's Little Big Horn. VOLS 35 MSU 14

Lol! Great avi!

Most people with high standards are called successful.

Yeah, or spoiled. And you having high standards doesn't make the team successful, it makes you a spoiled brat fan. Dave Hart probably has high standards, and if he makes the change, I'll fully support it, because that's his job. You, however, calling for a coach's head because he sucks, when he knows more about football than you probably know about life is dumb. No other way to spin it.

Actually it is. Basically all you need to know is this. I laid out what I believe Dooley's plan was when He took the job followed by some modifications he's made along the way, and what could be if he has some success within the next 2 years that I believe he will get. If he knew the lumps he would have to take early on, yet believing in his "slow and steady wins the race" plan for success and sustained success after that, while risking his career on it, then yes, Dooley will be a genius.

I read it all. I agree with some points and disagree with others. By the way, is your major sports journalism? Maybe an essay for class? Doesn't matter. It's all good but think about Auburn hiring a virtually unknown Chizik and Tubbs having most of the reqruits in place. He wins a championship because Cam Newton fell in his lap. Where's the reqruits? Why is Auburn last in the SEC in everything. Where's The Dynasty? I just don't understand that part. I don't see alot of differences in Chizik and Dooley except the teams they took over and Dooley I will admit is way more intelligent. That does not mean if we wait 2-3 years and win the SEC that everyone will want to play for this coach. You need experience and a coach that makes kids believe they will win and prepares them to win and then they win! Dooley has proven he can do none of that. I could be wrong if we wait 6 years but if we pass on Gruden or Cowher or a proven talented coach, I'm gonna be pissed. GO VOLS!:peace2:

Well what do you suppose he had to sell the last couple of years? If he wins it will pick up. If you are judging him based on anything that happened the last two years (maybe minus the Kentucky game), then it can be argued that you're not even giving him a chance. We've played 5 games so far. 2 of them to teams that have been in the top 5 at some point this year.

They're losing faith in what he's selling? Is that why the number 2 WR in the nation has us number 1 on his list. Is that why the number 1 RB in the nation has us in his top 2-3? These are the types of recruits we weren't getting his first two recruiting classes because there wasn't much to sell except just the name Tennessee alone and playing time.

The problem most fans on here have and one I think CDD may have underestimated was touched one in one of these posts. We have been in decline for several years before he got here. It's not just the got to have now crowd either. We are all sick of being kicked around and just want a good football team. Problem is we have had patience but it's running out. Here is where it gets tough. I agree with most everything OP said!!!! I believe we need to give it more time to play out, and my hope is we can all just take a deep breathe and relax to let it happen. Because if we don't I'm scared we will push it back 3 or 4 more yrs. Then this place will blow up!!! Look I think CDD will get better and better at coaching, just as team will get better. By the time we have full roster and at full strength, he will be just as good as team is!! Just my 2 cents worth!!!

Thought the OP had a great post.

The main challenge for UT always has been and always will be recruiting. With very little talent-wise within Tennessee, other SEC teams with rich in-state recruits (SC, GA, FL, AL, MS, TX) maintain a distinct, long-term advantage over UT.

F.U. Kiffen and his staff knew how to "recruit", but the guys they drew in were big-time recruits in name only: They were largely self-absorbed thugs, as time has proven.

I give props to DD on his recruiting: The guys we have are STICKING with the program. Only Douglas to my recollection was the only talented guy to bail on DD, and obviously, he had serious off the field issues.

The way I see things, it will always be an uphill battle for us to recruit. When times get tough - as they did over the past 5 years - that just trebles the difficulty for us to recruit and turn the team around. In contrast, look at Florida State when they made a coaching change... BOOOOOM in comes the HUGE recruiting class stocked with 5* and 4* IN STATE guys.

That's why GA, FL, and BAMA can turn things around faster than UT.

Always has been that way. Always will be.

DD is on the right track.
Are you serious? You understand that ALL TIME we are better than both GA and FL. We have been winning with these programs for 100 years, and was in Tennessee the whole time. So NOW we should just accept that they SHOULD be better than us right?

He took a dumpster fire of a situation, embraced UT in every way, has been a great ambassador for the program and brought back at the very least a semblance of stability.

I thought it was more of a mattress fire of a situation.

I could do everything in bold. What I can't do is coach in the sec.
