Dooley = Genuis?

Hey Dopey, pay attention. I was responding to a claim that stated Dooley belonged at Carson Newman.

Are you denying that you were trying to use that comment to indirectly support your claim that Dooley can coach? If Saban thought he was capable, why didn't make him the OC?

Name calling does not enhance your otherwise weak argument.

A win is a win? Then how come a loss isn't a loss?? How come you put more weight on the Kentucky loss than when Kiffin got drilled by Ol Miss? How come Dooley's win over NC State is less significant than Kiffin's Massacre at the hand of VA Tech?

And Dooley does have a number of prospects now, you are right, because he has 2 1/2 recruiting classes he can call his own. And Tennessee is competitive because of it. The defense (which has a thin secondary still, even more so now that Randolph is hurt) has really hurt this team. Otherwise, we could be 5-0 right now, with 2 very quality SEC wins. Don't forget that UT was beating Florida by a touchdown with less than 4 minutes to go in the 3rd. And don't forget that UT had 3 really good shots at the end of the Georgia game to tie it. This team is arriving.

Are you really going to compare the loss to Ole Miss and the loss to UK?

One game featured a future NFL player having the game of his life the other a WR playing QB for the first time since high school.

I believe the UGA game has given some false hope. That game was a hair away from being an absolute blowout midway through the 2nd quarter.

As for the UF game, if you're putting stock into 3rd quarter leads then so be it. They failed to close which has been an immense problem under Dooley.

UT was completely outclassed in that game against VaTech. Ask yourself this, if Dooley were coaching that team, would they even have gotten to that game?

We all know what the answer is.

Pseudo-intellectual? Lol.

Yes, coming from you, quite obiously it's pseudo-intellectualism. You want us to believe that you are more intelligent than you actually are. It's obvious from the way you boast about your in-depth analysis of the facts, and lament the fact that nobody, outside of yourself has taken the time, or has the ability, to apply logic and reason to the situation being discussed.

pseudo intellectual- noun

1. a person exhibiting intellectual pretensions that have no basis in sound scholarship
2. you

I absolutely am denying that. How many times do I have to tell you, I don't know if Dooley is a good coach. I want to see what he can do with a full roster of his players? How is it that you can misinterpret my comments so badly? It's like you're intentionally reading them wrong to make an argument out of nothing.

I guess I am having a hard time understanding why you would want to give him more time, if you don't think he is a good coach.

Don't all career losing coaches get 10 years to prove themselves? I would think 20+ million dollars is a fair amount to collect while he is given a fair shot. If he can beat 1 top 25 team in the 1st 6 years, he gets a 5 year extension. :eek:lol:

We all know what the answer is.

Wilcox couldn't figure out how to stop the wildcat. Kentucky threw something at UT that it hadn't prepared for and a mentally beat down team couldn't adjust. A talent-deficient UT team had gone up against national championship contender after national championship contender. The morale of the team was awful. Based on the reports of rumored comments from the team, those guys just wanted the season to be over. They were mad, they were embarrassed and they were immature. So yes, I compare the Kentucky loss to the Ol Miss loss.

And we don't all know the answer. You think you know the answer, but you will never know, because there is no time machine readily available to provide you with the scenario about which you ask.

And the Georgia game was a hair away from getting ugly. But it never got ugly. The team battled back. I don't care if there were turnovers, UT still had to capitalize. Or do you think we should take the 98 National Title away because Arkansas fumbled when the game should have been over?

And the Florida game was ultimately lost because our defense couldn't set the edge. That's why this team didn't finish, which is not quitting, like in Dooley's past. Apples to oranges.

I guess I am having a hard time understanding why you would want to give him more time, if you don't think he is a good coach.

I never said I didn't think he was a good coach, I said I don't know if he is. Did you finish school, because you definitely having a hard time making simple conversation.

Quite "obiously" you assume a lot. I don't lament anything of the sort. I think you people saying Dooley can't coach are ignorant for having your mind already made up about it without analyzing the situation, however. Personally, I think most everybody should be on the fence, since he still doesn't have the sufficient depth to compete and since the 2008 and 2009 classes are virtually gone. Quite "obiously" you are pretty arrogant to judge a book by its cover.

Like Volley Girl said, let's meet in the middle.

I wonder if the ones who make all the excuses for Dooley and his trainwreck of a coaching job argued like this for Fulmer? If they will shout out excuses for a loser, they should have been on CNN fighting for Fulmers job 24/7.

Oh wait, they blame everyone BUT Dooley for the last 3 years. Deny, Deny, Deny. The numbers, stats, records, resume, media, and common sense all point to the man will keep losing.

"Just needs more time".

This coming from the same person that said he couldn't "coach up" players that never even played for him. And I'm the pseudo-intellectual. Lol

For the third post in a row:

I DON'T KNOW IF HE IS A GOOD COACH. I'M ON THE FENCE.

Can you comprehend big letters any better?

You make all these posts on the board in support of Dooley, yet you want us to believe you do not have an opinion on whether he is a good coach or not? You want to keep him around to see if he can be successful?
Man, I hope curiousity is a lot lower Dave Hart's priority list than it is on yours.

You seem to have commitment issues.

He had 65-70+ kids on the roster when he got here 3 years ago. It takes 11 on offense and 11 on defense(Unless your DD, then it may be 14). 65-70 kids who coaches felt were good enough to play at UT to pick from. Other teams field a team and go compete. You just look for excuses to justify why our coach continues to fail. Fight the good fight. I look forward to the day he is cleaning out his office.

You are apparently arrogant as well. Assuming that you're the only one who has analyzed the situation, and labeling those who disagree with your assessment.....sounds like arrogance to me.

An arrogant pseudo intellectual. Winning.

There were 70 players, but not good enough to normally play at UT. That's what you don't get. What's the expression? You can't make chicken salad out of chicken ****. Other teams field and go compete, huh? Yep, Kentucky, Vandy, Ol Miss, Auburn, they're all competing with all that talent they've got, right?

Don't be mad. But you are wrong to say Dooley isn't a good coach.

Lol, look. I just get upset when people say horrible things about our football coach. The guy walked into a situation that was a lot worse than I think some people believe. I'm behind our coach. I hope he gets it turned around. Derek Dooley being the best coach in the NCAA is the best scenario for UT, because that means we can have our guy and stick with him.

I've said a countless amount of times that I don't know if Dooley is the right guy. There's no way anyone could know up to this point. There simply is not enough evidence at this point, and to suggest otherwise is arrogant. You can attempt to attack me all you want. However, in the end, don't you think it would be better if we all just came together and stopped with this coaching nonsense? Why can't we just be fans and wait to see what happens? That's all I've been saying this whole time.

If at the end of the season, this team does not reach my expectations, which I think are pretty dog-gone reasonable, then I will say MAYBE it's time for a new coach. But ultimately it's Dave Harts decision, and I trust him more than myself, because knows EVERYTHING about the situation. And to suggest you know better than Dave Hart is also pretty arrogant.

By wrong, I don't mean incorrect, I mean unfair. If I came to McDonalds to watch you flip burgers (I'm not suggesting that is what you do, I'm just using it as an example) and you dropped 4 patties into the floor, I might draw the conclusion that you were bad at your job. But what if your girlfriend had just broken up with you after 2 years, and you were an emotional wreck? What if the patties were more greasy than usual and they were slipping around everywhere? What if there was a huge rush, and all these factors were coming in on top of you getting yelled at by your boss for keeping people waiting in the drive-thru too long?

Would my initial assessment be accurate?

Yes, Rule #832.3-B in the burger flippers handbook states thou shall not fumble the burgers. FIRED!!

Seriously though, your trying to compare 1 incident of dropping some burger patties with a coach who has been getting abused for going on 6 years now? Sounds reasonable to me.

You're right about Rule #832.3-B, but I have known people to make exceptions for one bad day of work.

I said I would start judging Dooley this year. I wanted to see how this team got better in different aspects of the game. I stick by that, but I want to wait until the end of the season. That's all I'm saying. We are certainly not going to agree on this, so I'm certainly not going to use anymore time trying to defend my position.

:salute:

I haven't said I know better than Hart. I have an opinion.....like you. The fact that you have an opinion is not what makes you arrogant. The fact that you have referred to people today as ignorant, stupid, and lacking your ability to analyze and reason is what makes you arrogant.

I am a fan, same as you. We simply differ on what the best path for our University is. I defended Dooley using the same arguments until very recently. The dumpster fire he inherited has been extinguished. That excuse is tired in the face of the same repeated on field mistakes, and no improvement in the Win column. Its going to be even more difficult to show improvement next year with the schedule he will face.

He was a band aid hire on the cheap at a time when, for a multitude of reasons, nobody else was interested in the job.

He was underqualified then and remains so today.

I have no opinion. That's what I'm basing all of these arguments on. And you may not have said you know better than Hart, and you may not have called Dooley names. I was using that argument in general because people call him "pathetic" or a "loser" or an "idiot" without ever stepping foot onto his practice field, or in his locker room, or in his war room. The "dumpster fire" is gone, you are correct. It's now more of a smoldering trash can.

And I saw a team that battled through adversity against Georgia. I saw a team that had Florida scared to death. I saw a team that found a way to put Akron away (don't laugh, because in 2010 UAB took us to 2 overtimes). I've seen an offensive line that went from being only a great pass-blocking team to also a pretty good run-blocking team. I've seen young guys, like Bryan Randolph and Tiny Richardson show that they really know how to ball. I've seen Chaney stick to a run game against Georgia. I saw Gameday come to Knoxville. I saw this team in the top 25 for the first time since 2008. I saw this team break the Georgia Dome curse.

I do not see the same team as last year. I see a much better one. That's my opinion on the team. I still have no opinion on Dooley. I just want to wait to the end of the year before I even try to form a guess on him. That's all.
