Dooley and Bray

“If he’s loose with the ball, he’s coming out of the game and we’re going to play (Justin) Worley,” Dooley said. “I told (Bray) that. He’s too loose with the football, and he’s been too loose. That’s the way it is. We can’t beat these teams turning the ball over. There’s going to be inevitable turnovers in a game. When there is one, make them have made a great play to get it, not serve it up to them, which is what we do.”

Are you really just now hearing about this? Not only was this said last Monday, its been harped on, and Dooley has even elaborated on it further since he said it.

Try to keep up if you're going to start pointless threads.

And I'm sorry where is Dooley wrong? And how does that make him a "weak little man"?

Isn't kind of late to get tough with Bray about being a loose cannon. Should have started being tough on him during the UNC game.

You can dislike Dooley all you want but your comment is immature at best. He can't win with you thread starters. You guys find a way to spin everything said so you can try to get more likes or more attention to your thread. Its stupid really.

He was talking about the productivity of Bray and everything he said was spot on.

OH this a bunch of bull, OMG, is it possible that Bray has been loose with the ball? Dang! some of you just want to place all the blame on coaching.......I guess your failure as an adult is all your parent's fault.

You mean weak little man TB is right? Get over yourself with Dooley's comments on Bray. The fact is he throws 2 picks every SEC game at the worst times. We probably could have won 3 of the SEC games even with our **** for defense had Bray not over thrown receivers or thrown picks or the receivers not dropped passes. It's time for Dooley to blast these damn players.

What part of this comment is inaccurate?

The part where we call out the qb publicly while the defense is giving up 40+ ppg and 500+ ypg in conference play.

Bray can play better, but he isn't cloae to being the problem.

It would also help if people actually caught the ball

Nothing Dooley said was untrue. Bray playing like that is killing us. He needs to actually think first before he flings the ball into double coverage or misses wide open receivers. He also needs to hold on to the dang ball when he's getting pressure.

If you watched Dooley, he also took the blame as well. I am not pleased with him as a coach, but the players actually play the game. Please don't be a politician...tell all the story not part of it!

Dooley's career is over because of Dooley. If he's so disappointed in Bray, why hasn't he started Worley. I didn't expect a perfect season, but this is his third year and biggest SEC win IMO was Vandy last year. Simply put, when the games on the line he gets outcoached. Not saying we beat Alabama, but why did we burn time out at the end of the 1st half last week? Why are we on about the 8 yard and kick a field goal with seconds left when the game was already over?

Put a young John Elway back there, and Dooley would still find a way to lose

Yeah because Bray's habit of choking under pressure had nothing to do with the Vols losing vs UF, UGA, and MSU, right?

Just some insight on the "great" recruiting ability of Kiffin. Bray was the guy Kiffin got after he whiffed on the guys he really wanted. Who were they?

Rettig is the starter for an awful BC team.

Rees is the back up at ND.

Scroggins as expected got buried in the USC depth chart then transferred to a JUCO. Remember the meltdown when he chose USC over the Vols?

But Jake Heaps was Kiffin's #1 guy. He was beaten out at BYU and is now a back up for Kansas.

So Bray was the guy he settled for after those "stars" told him "no thanks". Meanwhile the guy who Clawson insisted on and got a commitment from is one of the nation's top passers... T Boyd. Just food for thought while you are stoning Dooley for not fixing everything.

Yes, I think Dooley should have made the call to bench Bray. It is his job to see what a player brings then get the right guy in. That said, it is likely that none of us would have benched Bray either.

i don't understand how tyler bray can be catching the heat he is and i have never been a bray fan.

i don't know if anyone on the team is playing better than bray outside of the offensive line and patterson. and patterson has dropped a ton of passes.

hunter? he's been mr. drop.

anyone on defense doing his job as well as bray is doing his. i don't think so.

the sad thing is people are bashing bray like crazy and he is one of the few reasons tennessee actually has a shot to win the game in the first place.

giving up over 40 a game and y'all are going to blame the qb?

really?

Most of the bashing is for all the 3 and outs. He's not helping the D. It's not all his fault, but he isn't helping them either.

So his statement wasn't really inaccurate. It was just missing further criticism of defense and receivers. He took care of that in other comments FWIW.

What AllVols said is a part of the Ds issues.

At the end of the day Bray is the QB of the team. He needs to do more. Like it or not but he needs to be the leader and he needs to show it. We as a fan base want a leader in our QB. Be it that we were spoiled by PM. Bray needs to be that guy. He goes out and wants to do all these dances and handshakes like he did vs NCst but when it gets tough he doesn't step up. Long been known he enjoys the "big man on campus" lifestyle, which is fine. PM, and many others did and future QBs will too. Enjoy it but get the job done.

imo, i have seen this the last couple of years at florida before this season. pressure is placed on everyone to be perfect because of how bad other aspects of the team are.

examples.....

a dropped pass was a big deal. wasn't a big deal while spurrier was coach. just throw it again on the next play and get 20 yards. no problem. but, when brantley is throwing the ball, you better catch it because who knows when the next pass will hit you in the hands.

bray makes mistakes, but he doesn't make an abnormal amount of mistakes. however, the rest of the team is so bad that bray has to be perfect and is expected to be perfect.

a turnover is a big deal, because the tennessee defense isn't going to force a fg. the other team is going to get 6.

a punt is a big deal, because the other team is probably going to score.

every mistake the offense makes......every penalty, every dropped pass, every bad throw is magnified.....because the defense is totally incapable of holding up their end of the deal.

so, playing devil's advocate.....what would bray look like if tennessee had florida's defense. how much more relaxed would he be if punting wasn't the end of the world. how would the perception of him be different if tennessee could score 44 and actually be up a few touchdowns instead of losing the game.

remember 08 fulmer was doing the same thing as dooley is doing with the may bench bray BS. Bray looks the same as he did 2 years ago. what that tells me is he has had no coaching. Maybe if the defense didn't let the other team score every possesion Bray wouldn't have to take chances. Dooley has ruined what was a once bright future for Bray. Remember what crompton played like after Kiffin had half a season to coach him, not a great qb but much improved. Still hate kiffin for what he did to us but a better coach than DD.

There two things I agree with on these post.

1. Bray has an attitude problem, this was evident last year.
2. We should not have changed our defense.....this is an easy one (hind sight 20/20 logic)

I believe that Justin Worley should start, and I will tell you why. When Sims was playing like Bray, He came out, and Bray in, now the shoe is on the other foot, it's Justin's turn.

Go Vols!! please beat Spurrier

Can we put the "California Boy" image to rest already? I know ESPN and every other sports network/radio announcer etc. has hyped it but California is about as diverse as it gets. Bray is from what many would consider a 'hick town' in the middle of nowhere. This notion that Southerners are this, Northerners are that, Californians are this, Midwesterners are that, is and always has been total nonsense.

Dooley has a southern accent and grew up privileged and is highly educated. He's not a hayseed and I doubt he'd claim to be.

Thank you. A very insightful and accurate take on a topic that is dumber 'n hell.
