Man I forgot about Jennings b4 I opened this thread(inexcusable I know), he has shown some nice flashes. He could end up being our number one.

He still has a long way to go as a WR, but I love what he brings to the table from a tenacity and athleticism standpoint. I wish we'd have given him more opportunities to go up and get the ball in 2015.

Josh was injured for a good portion of the year last year and had labrum surgery after the season - might be a reason he was "lazy" or "afraid to take a hit".

Kid gets so much criticism.

Much of it was deserved his freshman year when a lot of reporters and insiders consistently commented on his poor practice habits.....and we saw some of that spill over to gameday.

However, i believe we saw Josh take a strong step forward in the right direction last season and I expect more of the same this year as he's our leading returning receiver. He has great size and physical ability and the sky is the limit for him IMO. I'll be pulling for him greatly and hope he quiets his VN detractors in a very big way.

I remember after Josh Smith's first season most everyone on this board spoke about how he was garbage and had brick hands, wasn't a reliable receiver, etc.

Now everyone looks at Josh Smith as our most reliable receiver.

Let's give Malone the benefit of the doubt (even though IMO he didn't have the dropsies as some claim) and trust that he takes a big time leap this year as a trusted receiver.

1. I was one of those who completely ripped Smith for what was a very poor freshman season. Happy to do the mea culpa as he turned out to be a solid, talented, tough-minded SEC WR.

2. We agree about Malone.

3. Don't quite understand why so many consider Smith our "most reliable" WR.... 1.8 catches and 24 yards per game with his own handful of drops doesn't exactly scream "reliable". Of course, I think it said more about our feckless passing game than it did about Josh's abilities.

4. IMHO, Malone was our most reliable WR last year.

Truth be told Johnathan Johnson was, IMO, our most "reliable" receiver in the literal meaning of the word. Even though he had limited numbers, he always caught the ball when thrown to.

Yes. Meachem also battled injuries until his JR year when that "spark" lit for him. Josh has plenty of talent and plenty of time to turn into the receiver that we all though he could be.

To be fair, there wasn't much about our passing game that was all that reliable (at least in a good way) in 2015. When you can't even produce a 40 reception or 500 yard receiver, there's little to really differentiate between the best receivers. We never saw much more than flashes from any of WRs in 2015.

Hopefully they all stay healthy this year and one or two really separate themselves from the pack in an undeniable fashion. I don't really care which one it is. I just want to see one or two WRs really be game changers this season. It's really all the offense is missing.

I think back not too long ago when we had big-time receivers lining up at the same time like Hunter, Da'Rick, and CP. Of course much of their production was because Bray was a gun slinger. Right now we have two guys in Malone and Williams that can both be game changers. It will be hard pressed for DC's to try and stop both of them if our passing game livens up a bit.

Took Meacham 3 years to really take off on his abilities. So I think the jury could still be out on Malone.

The problem I have with Malone is that in a sea of faces these past 2 years he hasn't claimed the title of go to receiver. During that time we've seen Hurd show up and demand the ball and take the #1 RB spot. I want a receiver that wants the ball as bad as Hurd does. I want a receiver where every time the ball is thrown to someone else people wonder why it wasn't to him. I see that desire in Williams and the skill set to be our go to receiver.

Malone's demeanor certainly isn't ideal, I agree with that. But I thought I saw him play aggressively more times than not last year. Recall his play vs Georgia and Bama in particular. Throw in his being our first and damn near only single game 100 yard receiver and really the only WR to get behind the defense with any regularity outside of PWill vs Western Carolina. He doesn't naturally have "that dawg" in him .... but neither did Robert Meachem when he blew up as a junior...I hope we see the same from Malone and I think it's possible if he shows the same progression from year 2 to 3 as he did year 1 to 2.
