I would love to see it! Also do not go to sleep over young Mr. Jennings. The youngster is just too athletic and an aggressive football player to not make a significant impact this year as well!
Man, I have held tightly to my high hopes for Josh over the past couple of years. Sad truth, though, is that if the spark doesn't take in two seasons, it is far less likely in the third season and beyond.
So, much as we all hope all our players excel, the chance of that happening with PWill is higher than it is with Malone, at this point.
Would love for Josh to come out this fall and prove me wrong. Throw us in that briar patch.![]()
Well, it's not double-digits & it's not two so you'll have 7 numbers to guess now.![]()
If we get anything near 2006 Meachem play this year from one of our guys we are winning big.Meachem was a bad, bad man. His junior season he was, in almost every game, the best player on the field. Against LSU's vaunted secondary and with Crompton throwing the ball up for grabs, Meachem was a man amongst boys and nearly singlehandedly won the game for us on the offensive side of the ball. I believe that is one of the most impressive games that I've seen from a Vol offensive player in the last decade. If Malone, or PWill or Smith or Jennings, can get to 80% of the production of Meachem's junior year, we will be rolling this year.
Ok so let's say it's 5 since I don't have the time to look through the play-by-play game log from every game. And let's assume that he was solely responsible for half of them by just plain dropping them, and the other half he may have gotten a hand on the ball from an errant pass that may have been a difficult catch.
You really still gonna hate on Malone for dropping maybe 2-3 passes he was solely responsible for?!
Every receiver, no matter how good, has a few drops a year. I don't recall Malone having anymore than a couple.
VFL, you are one of my very favorite posters on here and I agree with more than 99% of the time ... but not this time.
There is NO kinda rule that says if they haven't done it the first two years ... they won't learn and grow and develop in years 3 and 4. I know that's not exactly what you said, but in essence, it is. No reason Malone can't go lights-out this year, and no reason that's unlikely. In fact, it's more unlikely that upperclassman starters would fail to develop/progress than they would develop/progress.
A lot of the change in Meachem was due to Coach Cut coming back. I don't see any major changes like that to affect our WRs. Now if we're talking about TEs...
