Don't defend the indefensible

I think it is really easy for us fans watching the game to sit in our recliners and say the team isn't giving an effort. I didn't see a lack of effort. I saw a Vandy team that made play after play and a Tennessee team that couldn't make plays at key moments on both sides of the ball. After one of our receivers dropped a 50/50 ball, the commentators noted that that play was the kind of play Tennessee made in the wins over Kentucky and Auburn. You are also wrong that people didn't think Vandy would win. Most people knew that they would be a really tough matchup. Teams with good qbs that can pass the ball have picked us apart all year. Our defense hasnt been able to generate much pressure and the secondary is young. We just arent a very good team right now. We have to play lights out to beat SEC competition and we just didn't do that tonight. I still have confidence in Pruitt.
Good post I agree.

We're not talking about winning or losing. We're talking about competing.

They didn't compete, IMO.

Sad but true. We have WAY too many fans ready with the excuses. These same fans said Jones was such a great recruiter. 'Needed more time'. These same fans are blaming the players Jones recruited. Which one is it?

I disagree..... I see too many fans with unrealistic expectations.....most predicted us to win anywhere from 5-7 games..... I was leaning toward 7 games if we could get competent offensive line play.... we did not so 5 wins was about where I figured we would be......we severely lack depth and need to flip this roster as quickly as possible.

Numerous former players have called out the effort the last two weeks. Especially today.

I’m seeing a lot of stuff being written and I’m shaking my head.

Anyone who thought before the season that Tennessee did not have the personnel on campus to avoid getting hammered by Vanderbilt is not being truthful. I know those are fighting words, but it is what it is.

There is NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE, who thought before the year, Vandy is just too good. Tennessee’s going to lose, that’s a given. Tennessee has absolutely no chance. I just hope we don’t get killed.

No one came close to having that thought.

The team I saw today did not bother to play with any effort. Period. Point blank. End of story. Next case.

And you’re darn right, that’s on the coaches. You’ve lost two in a row to Vandy. You’re trying to get to a bowl. You’re trying to end on a good note, so that the season has a positive vibe about it. And you go out and do that.

Don’t give me the talent rationale. One of the reasons Pruitt got emotional after the Georgia game is because the team went out and laid it on the line and played hard for 4 quarters. The end result wasn’t what anyone wanted, but they busted their tails.

They were completely uninterested in this one and that’s a reflection on everybody, including the coaches. Players who care about their coaches don't do that.
Go post on a gator board and leave us to our own misery.

We need football players. About 65 of them. We can only add 25 per year. I think we'll be pretty good in a couple years. But we aren't good now. So I'm not overly concerned or angry right now. Plenty of other things to focus on. Namely recruiting and spring practice.

It is time to get to work. Not time to bitch, whine, moan & complain.

Unrealistic expectations???? To not get blown out by Vandy was my expectation. Sorry for setting them so high.

No one came in thinking we would beat Auburn either. No one came in thinking Trey Smith would get put out of the season.
I didn't think he would play at all. It's amazing and embarrassing to the university, especially their legal counsel, that he did.

Players who care about their coaches don't do that.

You may have forgotten, but we UT fans have not.

We LOST to MIZZOU 50-17 last year at Mizzou.
We LOST to Vandy last year by 18 points at home.

We lost to Mizzou 50-17 last week--a team that Vandy could've beaten at Mizzou this year.

Maybe you have no interest in comparing Mizzou and Vandy's talent with ours--but I do.

And I've watched Vandy play several games this year....And did you forget that they barely lost to ND at ND by 5 points--and could've actually won that game???

So--to rebut your comments--any RATIONAL UT fan had reason to doubt our ability to beat Vandy at Vandy at the beginning of the year. And even more so when ND barely beat them by 5 points at ND. And that concern should've grown after watching Vandy play Mizzou and barely lose another game that they could've won.

So, yes, I had serious doubts about our ability to beat Vandy after watching them play several times this year. My hope was that we might win another game against a better team like we did in beating Auburn and Kentucky.

I had some hope after we beat KY, but the way we lost to Mizzou almost obliterated that hope.

I'd say that going 5-7 and winning 2 SEC games with this bunch of players and the loss of 2 key OL during the year is about the best CJP could get out of his players.

I know that you're an intelligent guy who makes some very incisive posts--but you WHIFFED badly on this post.

Those players out there tonight QUIT ON THEMSELVES FIRST AND FOREMOST. It is no sin to lose, but it is completely deplorable to NOT PREPARE yourselves mentally with the will and fight to WIN when you take the field. And it reveals more about their character than about our HEAD COACH.

You say players who care about their coach play with effort.
I agree that our team showed poor effort, but you seem to throw some shade at our coach when you make that comment.

Let me remind you that over 75% of those guys are CBJ's players....and our current coach has just spent an entire season trying to Coach them up and show them just how CHAMPIONS DO IT--something CBJ and crew NEVER COULD. And those players had to realize just how far away from championship caliber they actually are.

So tonight--they played for their own PRIDE and LEGACY!

I say that players who care about their own performance and legacy have good enough motivation to LEAVE ON FILM in their last game just how they want to be remembered. This team will now be remembered as a bunch of quitters--just like that Dooley-coached team that lined up with WAY more talent than KY and lost to them. They just QUIT! And they all EMBARRASSED THEMSELVES.

Fans can be quick to criticize coaches, but the PLAYERS KNOW THE TRUTH.

And just why are you not celebrating your over-achieving season with the rest of your GAY-TURD brethren instead of hanging around in the misery that has enshrouded this site? Were your comments actually intended to comfort the legions of Vol fans?

NO--I'd conclude that you just had to open your mouth like the rest of the classless GAY-TURD fans and insult our coach one last time in 2018.

Truly subpar for your own reputation.

And is just a regurgitation of multiple posts by actual UT fans. He's trolling you after a miserable loss to vandy. Why so many feel the need to subjugate themselves to rival fans I'll never know
Facts are facts and a stated fact is not contingent on the amount of times that it is stated nor the person stating it. Sad? Yep but the facts stand on their own merit

Have some damn pride. He's not staying anything that's not posted on this board a dozen times. There's a reason rival posters like him pop up after a loss

I played football from the time I was six years old through high school. That’s 12-13 seasons. I’m not sure, it’s been 30 years. It’s probably about 100 games or so. Not once ever do I recall a coach “getting me ready to play.” Yes, they coach. They make every effort to prepare you for anything and everything that the other team may attempt against you. Yes, they try to motivate. But, each player on the team is responsible for their individual effort.

These guys are just getting beat, period. They’re not winning blocks, winning coverage, making plays as receivers, etc.

I suppose it has to be on the coaches, to some degree. Maybe there’s more in these player’s than they got out of them. But, you just can not deny that they get beat to the man for the most part.
100% agree!! Coaches can put you in the right positions, players have to play! No player leadership on this team at all! As bad as I hate to say it, time to cut bait with a lot of these current players! That’s the only way this changes...

You’re right. He’s FOS and the Vols will be in the mix for a CFB playoff spot next year
