I have seen where people have been questioning DeBord's coaching abilities when it comes to coaching QB's. When Tennessee moved Cutcliffe to QB coach in the early 90's, where else did he hold that position prior? I'm not saying he will be another Cutcliffe, but don't count the man out before you see the product.

Yeah in most made a coaches often move around. Many don't even coach positions they played themselves. As a whole coaches are around game so much over years they can coach several positions.

Why are there 200 different threads all stating the same thing? Put you opinion in the main Debord discussion thread and if its important or of any value it will be discussed.

He beat Urban Meyer's Tebow-fied Florida Gators...said no Tennessee coach ever.

We have too many college and pro football coaches on this site so they have to get their opinion in someway.

I don't understand comments like this. Some people, like myself, come on here from time-to-time just to get some info on ALL OF OUR VOLS. Sorry if we don't all "know the rules". Who flipping cares if there's another DeBord thread? If you don't like it, then don't click on the dang thread. C'mon, we're all Vol fans here...

Totally agree ... problem is that when you try to look through a 300 page thread you can get a nasty headache. Half the ones who say they are tired of the threads run the page count up complaining about the thread to begin with. I thought Volnation was here for the enjoyment of all Vol fans just not the self appointed chosen few.

I wish you were correct about all of us being VOL fans. However, I can not believe that is true when I read all these negative posts from so called Tennessee fans.

Just because someone posts something negative doesn't necessarily make them not a Vol fan. Some people(myself included) sometimes get frustrated with watching our rivals succeed while we have to try and rebuild. Don't mistake impatience for not being a fan.

Here is one of those your not a true Vol fan if you make a negative comment post.
Just because someone makes a negative comment don't make them any lesser of a fan than the ones that are called sunshine pumpers.

So not the same thing.

It turns out there's more to being a fan than having sunshine shoot out your rear end 24/7.

Real fans don't question the establishment? Okay, commie.

At this point in his tenure, it's really hard for me to question Butch's decision making. To me our weakest link last year was on the offensive coaching side of the ball. It seems to me that he evaluated the season, and that he is now making the necessary adjustments to make this team one step closer to being a national contender. I have full confidence that he is as good at evaluating coaching acumen, as he is at identifying football prowess. I think he did it in such a way that he actually made 2 men's live better in the process. Butch is a class act, in a profession that makes that hard. I'm going to sit back and enjoy the Vols' rise to national prominence, never taking it, or the coach, for granted again.

Perfectly said since I joined all I get is comments on negativity. I share in the frustration. I lived in Birmingham for 6 years recently and it gets real old real fast listening to both Bama and Aubies go on and on and succeeding while we continued to plow through mediocrity. While under Jones short tenure the less than acceptable results have continued with losses to the usual teams Georgia Florida Bama Missouri there has been some glimmer of hope with back to back wins vs USCe and two very good recruiting classes and a bowl win over Iowa. But what I personally see as a "doing a friend a solid" hire in DeBord is a step back. My fear is the great players in the system will become very frustrated and not be able to relate to a grandfather figure that hasn't done this in years. I know that the system will be Jones and he is here to manage it but that just furthers my point of the favor hire.

I want to put faith in Butch but moves like these only further my doubts.

So what your saying is that if I am an older coach who has also been on the staff of NFL teams and I go up to an 18 yo freshman and say to him something like "Son do you want to play on Sunday's...then this is how you run this play..." the player is not going to listen to the coach or respect him because of his age...I am sure the Vol DBs paid no attention to Monte Kiffin when he was here teaching the Cover Two to them because he was an old fart. Steve Spurrier is way older than DeBorg...guess none of the Gamecocks listen to him...also remember ex-NFL coaches are contacted prior to the draft to discuss potential draftees that played for them.

Some good points but I don't think I would use Monte as a shining example of good old coaches based on recent performance at his now advanced age. Spurrier is a head coach not position so not exactly apples to apples. Age is a factor but bigger than age is his lack of recent experience or relevance. He has been pushing a pencil for years and when you have rely on positive comments from ex players or coaches from the mid and late 90's to vouch his ability well....
