don't count him out

There are a lot of other coaches that would be standing in that same line, right behind the Tennessee coaches. Those CUM coached gators beat most everybody, not just the VOLS.

And yet that offense beat the absolute hell out of the Gators that day overcoming four turnovers to get the win. Some want to make an excuse why Debord has the record he does as an OC and want to dismiss anything that gives the guy credit. The fact is the guy did enough offensively to win ballgames even if the defense was the strength of the team. That game Debord knew UM couldn't beat UF with the offense they had run throughout the year; he rebuilt the offensive approach in a month and went on to win versus a more talented UF team.

So what your saying is that if I am an older coach who has also been on the staff of NFL teams and I go up to an 18 yo freshman and say to him something like "Son do you want to play on Sunday's...then this is how you run this play..." the player is not going to listen to the coach or respect him because of his age...I am sure the Vol DBs paid no attention to Monte Kiffin when he was here teaching the Cover Two to them because he was an old fart. Steve Spurrier is way older than DeBorg...guess none of the Gamecocks listen to him...also remember ex-NFL coaches are contacted prior to the draft to discuss potential draftees that played for them.

Always saying DeBord is old has really gotten old.

There's a guy down in alabubba that's older than DeBord named nick saTan, nobody ever listens to that old guy either, LOL!

There's lots to be said for someone having alot of knowledge and experience which normally pays good dividends.

Smart people know this is a short term fix at OC and is a solid move for several reasons.

1...It keeps coach Z who's 1 of our best recruiters that must be kept as long as possible.

2...Coach Z gets a pay raise and becomes assistant OC and will be our next OC as soon as he's ready.

3...It keeps coach Gillespie longer too and he gets a pay raise and becomes recruiting coordinator.

4...Despite the many lies around here, DeBord knows the spread that we run and he got the WIN over floriDUHHH in the bowl game.

5...Our O will NOT change at all so we avoid a year or 2 setback making our young team have to learn an entire new O all over again.

6...DeBord has coached in the NFL and knows lots of people in the NFL and recruits love that kind of thing so that certainly won't hurt recruiting.

7...DeBord is detail oriented and will add some things to help our O become better, move the chains and score.

8...DeBord knows very well how to coach every position on our O, especially the O line and TE's, so his input will help make us better and especially in 2 areas where help is badly needed in the system buTch is running.

I was NOT happy about hiring DeBord either but I can see where this can be a great hire for the short term and was a very smart hire at this point in time for many reasons.

I'll be smart and mature and wait until after the end of next season and see how the results end up before I jump on him with both feet like many here are already doing.

FACT is that nobody has a clue on how this will end up.

The old man crap is just dumb and immature.

Agree with numbers 1,2 and 3 #4-jury out on that one and he beat FL in 2008 big deal now back to agree with 5 not so much with 6 his contacts don't matter if it did Michigan would have had him doing more than pushing a pencil. Number 7 gotta see it first no proof. #8 if he can do this then great.

So yes there is nothing we can do now but be unhappy and hope it works out but wasn't that the same opinion when Sunseri was hired?

Some good points but I don't think I would use Monte as a shining example of good old coaches based on recent performance at his now advanced age. Spurrier is a head coach not position so not exactly apples to apples. Age is a factor but bigger than age is his lack of recent experience or relevance. He has been pushing a pencil for years and when you have rely on positive comments from ex players or coaches from the mid and late 90's to vouch his ability well....

So Gruden wouldn;t be a good choice for any college because he's been out of the game too long? By the way I'm not a Grudenite but I think players listen and if he knows what he's talking about they're good with it.
