Going through a pretty rough time right now guys. Was down in Oxford helping my girlfriend move out today and my parents called and said they found my 1 year old black lab Little Bear dead today.

It really sucks..we've had a lot of family dogs in the past die, but I got little bear last year for my birthday and he's been like my best friend ever since. So this one hurts pretty deep. I'd attach a picture for y'all to see but I don't know how from my phone.

I appreciate that. And I literally just read that same post on Facebook about ten minutes ago. Definitely gets you a little misty eyed.

Sorry V4L...I hate to ask but how did he die so young? I lost a dog recently and several have in this thread but only time will heal that sh!t. Sorry again for your loss,brah.

The only thing I can think of is he got poisoned. We've had about 3 or 4 dogs in the last 10 years or so get poisoned in our neighborhood. So have a lot of our neighbors and one of theirs just died a month ago from it.

We've been trying to figure out who the sick bastard is that keeps killing them but we can't. We finally fenced in our yard when I bought little bear so the same thing wouldn't happen to him but I guess I didn't do a good enough job looking after him :(. Him and Zeus, my other dog always run around the neighborhood and always come right back to the house when we call them and put them back up.

It just sucks..I feel like its my fault but mom and dad said little bear was acting fine today..they just found him laying out in his house and he wouldn't get up.

It is man..I cried like a little girl and am still a little teary eyed today. I couldn't imagine being close to little bear for 16 years and having to put him down like you did with your dog.

Did getting another dog help you and your family? I'm thinking about doing it for Zeus to have some company to play with. I know no other dog can replace little bear though..we had a special bond even if it was only for a year. He'd be so excited to see me when he came in he'd launch himself up in the bed with me and go absolutely crazy. Then he'd eventually calm down and just lay his head on my chest and let me pet him to sleep.

When I let Zeus out to use the bathroom he goes straight to the fenced in part of the yard and looks around for lb..tears me up.

my chocolate lab of 2.5 disappeared for 2 days thought she was gone for good but the shelter answered my craigslist and i got her back thank goodness.

100% helped us all, including my other dog that was depressed. You can't feel guilty, and that bond is always there. You gotta get back in. We searched a few days and got a rescue pup that some lady had turned into the pound. He then went to a foster home, and he's a big part of the family. At the beach with us now. Him chasing crabs at night is the highlight of the week.

I will say that you need to figure out what is happening with this "poison" deal, before it happens again, or keep the dog inside or on a leash. Or ask neighbors if they have any ideas who or what it may be.

I definitely agree with the last part. We live in a small neighborhood and everybody knows everybody..we pretty much have it narrowed down to two possible people that keeps doing it..but nobody has any evidence.

Should we just report to police and tell them who everybody thinks it is? I feel like they'll brush it off to the side though and not do much about it. It's happened to a lot of our neighbors dogs over the years..they just die one day or no apparent reason and all the owners agree it was poisoning.

Sorry for your loss V4L. I don't think I would be the same if I lost my Kodi...I have had him since he was 6 weeks old and he'll be 3 in Sept. You'll be in my prayers bud.
