Does this hurt recruiting or am I reading too much into it?

I think it sends the message that we at UT care mainly about football, and that's ok with me.

I am a long time football fan of The University of Tennessee and this is actually the first year that I've bought basketball tickets.....just wishful thinking on my part that out of a school with 25,000 students that at least 1 percent of them would show up.

So let me get this straight. The deciding factor in a recruit's decision on which college to attend is not the coach, the staff, the other players, the facilities, or the school's traditions. But rather the enthusiasm shown by the student body in a more or less meaningless basketball game in mid-January. Ok, that makes sense. I suppose.

You will notice, perhaps, that I prefaced the thread by asking if I was maybe reading too much into it. Thanks for your reply though.

You, like I are fans of the University of TN regardless of what the sport is. I dont think you are over reacting. As a football fan and avid recruiting geek, I hoped the atmosphere would be electric also. Anything that creates excitement and adds to the experience of the recruits is good for the program. Butch is hoping 18 year old kids can see themselves spending the next 4 years of their lives here. Enthusiasm for the program and university comes from all of the experiences they have while they're here including yes, basketball games!

Nearly 13 minutes into the first half of the ball game...probably the biggest recruiting weekend of the year...and our "student" section looks like it has MAYBE 50 people in it. Awful. (Can't post the pic for some reason but its about 1/3 full.)

Your not reading to much into anything. North was @ the unc game doing it up with a very excited crowd. He was obviously enjoying himself & that makes a difference.

BTW - looked up your MD profile on vitals.com. Impressive to say the least. No homo.

The students sit in more sections than just the one behind the goal! At least four or five other sections in the lower level and upper-level are mostly students

No, I realize that. I was talking specifically of the section next to the band. Don't they sit the recruits down there? I could be wrong.

Was going back and forth between the UT game and the Syracuse -v- Louisville game. Will say the KFC-Yum crowd was more amp than the TBA attendees. Not just the student section but the entire crowd at TBA was a few decibels lower than the game up in Louisville.

Why would we go ? Lol I've been to every home game up until now, but no more!

If you have season tix then can I have them since you're not going. I have a son and we would love to go. I'm going March 9th to Mizzou game.
Btw, I think it's great that we just give up. The team over achieved last year and this year is more of what they prolly should be. But it's still our Vols and they can still turn it around.

They were the #1 team playing another highly ranked opponent on national television... I'd hope they were louder

There were a lot more students sitting in the other sections.. The reason I never sit in the "rocky top rowdies" is because their chants are so stupid. Like yesterday they were chanting "4 is short! 4 is short!"... Part of it too is we just lost how many games in a row? Plus, if it was a ranked team in the building there would have been a lot more in that section. Plus it was on Saturday..... And after Friday night a lot of students prefer to sit during the game over standing the whole time.

There's usually a big basketball home game in January that aligns with a recruiting weekend. Sucks that there isn't one this year.
