IMO it would be a bad omen to lose to Cal. Florida and Georgia are much tougher games then Cal. 2005 is a good example of this.
Even though UT beat UAB, it was obvious UT was not hitting on all cylinders on offense. Unfortunately that continued the whole season.
First game ALWAYS sets up expectations for the season, particularly if playing against a team predicted to finish out the season in the top 15. The patsies that get scheduled by teams (ex. Florida) for warm-up games are pretty useless in my book, and I wish UT would stop scheduling those. They don't help you in the long run, and just puts your good players at risk of injury for nothing. Let the Gators and other teams schedule the patsies, I want the Vols to play better teams all the time.
