Does the first game set our expectations for 2007-08

I think it can show the potential we could reach. But it would still yet to be seen if that potential could be reached in other games.
As long as our qb or other key players don't get injured and miss signifigant time.

In one season Neyland went undefeated and unscored upon in the regular season. Still a record to this day, and will never be broken. But not to many people remember that.
Actually, I think Michigan did that once... and they won their bowl game.

Of course that was over 100 years ago, but it happened.

IMO it would be a bad omen to lose to Cal. Florida and Georgia are much tougher games then Cal. 2005 is a good example of this.

Even though UT beat UAB, it was obvious UT was not hitting on all cylinders on offense. Unfortunately that continued the whole season.

Don't you remember? According to Fulmer UAB was a middle tier SEC quality team. :eek:lol:

First game ALWAYS sets up expectations for the season, particularly if playing against a team predicted to finish out the season in the top 15. The patsies that get scheduled by teams (ex. Florida) for warm-up games are pretty useless in my book, and I wish UT would stop scheduling those. They don't help you in the long run, and just puts your good players at risk of injury for nothing. Let the Gators and other teams schedule the patsies, I want the Vols to play better teams all the time.
