Does Pruitt even have a clue?

Why interview Freeze or Briles if they don’t fit your offensive philosophy? Makes zero sense. If they don’t fit why even entertain 2 guys that have a suspect background? My thinking is he’s an idiot. He tried to hire these guy hoping they’d conform to him and get them super cheap bc of there shady past. It’s one thing to strike out on one, but to strike out on 2? It’s they either said FU I’m not coming to work for you and have to change my style and for very little money, or Someone like Phil is preventing it. Both Pruit and Phil are literally learning on the job. Which shouldn’t be happening here at TN.

Now you tell us! so, when do you take over?

IT may not be Pruitt. It may not be Phil. It may not be the BOT, or administration. Who care who gets the blame.

The fact is the program is a complete dumpster fire at this point.

If Pruitt can salvage anything here he can really help his resume. If not, this program will be seen as a black hole for coaching careers.

I will pull for Pruitt as I have been a Vol fan for decades. But I still think that we made a huge mistake when we let a rookie athletic director hire a rookie coach for the situation we had in place a year ago. Fulmer hired Pruitt to take us back to the past. Unfortunately, he took us back to the 1920's when Vandy last beat us 3 times in a row. Pruitt was not a match and had no experience for the existing personnel we had at that time. I think it is telling that he is interviewing spread and high powered offense OC candidates. That would be correcting a mistake made a year ago. Hopefully if we make that transition we can obscure some of the deficiencies of our offensive line and score some points.
^^^^^^^^^^Great Post. Also great thread. It amuses me when folks cant come up with a logical response posters always resort to claiming the thread is stupid or dumb.

I am personally excited about the names mentioned for OC. It appears Pruitt is at least gauging interest from top coaches around the country with different offensive backgrounds and schemes. I am not sure who he will hire or when, so I will reserve my judgment until I see how it all unfolds, probably next season when I see the product on the field.
Why would Pruity gauge interest from spread up tempo OC's when he is to stubborn to run anything but a "power run scheme"

It amuses me how folks talk about crap they have no idea what they are talking about.

Have you not seen this conversation in several different threads over the past two weeks?

It amuses me how some folks think their opinion is the only logical opinion.

Thanks for proving my point. On cue. Great.

Pruitt should have never hired his buddy Will Friend. Going into business with friends is stupid. The OL got no better as the season progressed. Loyalty will get Pruitt fired and even worse will screw the program.
He didn’t hire his buddy.....he hired someone he trusted that he thought was a good offensive line coach.... our line was a mess be they were severely undersized and lost our two most experienced guys to injury.

Pruitt did hire his buddy. Cant dispute that. Our Oline was a mess for many reasons - all of which are due to Pruitt's bad decisions. The major one being that Pruitt decided to take lineman who were recruited to run a RPO scheme and turn these kids into a run first power I line. Not going to happen. Stevie Wonder could have seen that.

So much love and kindness in this thread. Makes me wanna settle in with a cup of coffee......

Sir with all due respect, you should keep to commenting on how to improve fast food service and quit commenting on football! One of the most ignorant threads I have ever read! Hint, the players have a little something to do with how you perform!

Thank you for showing how little you know about the hiring process. Now please stop thinking and get back to work, its apparently not your strong suit.

If you disagree, respond on point with something of substance rather than just throwing out there that the post is dumb stupid ignorant etc. That is how 2nd graders respond. You can do better than that? Right?

They worked together.....how do you know how good of buddies they are? Did you even watch our line the year before? News flash....they couldn’t block last year either....He is trying to fix the situation by getting the line that he has up to SEC size and bringing in his own guys to give us the muscle needed to win in the SEC....Quit being so shortsighted....it’s not about this past season....it’s about building a championship program.

Ok cool. So why did he interview two guys with shady pasts and why did he strike out on both?

Who did we strike out on, I have yet to hear a confirmed offer to any. An interview is simply that. I don't know you very well, I'd like to have a sit down and see what and who you are about. Just like applying at Walmart, interviewing for a corporate job, driving up to a construction company, whatever. You get looked at, determined if you fit, asked any relevant questions, and then THEY make the decision to offer to a job. You aren't offered just because you applied or interviewed or asked. The most probable conclusion is Pruitt is interviewing multiple people until he has a fit found for what he is looking for. Some may want more money, some may want the ability to leave quickly, some may not actually fit in personality or philosophically. Many factors. This is his job, his one chance to make a huge step into the career he has worked for. It has to be what is best for him, which is what is best for our team, in his mind. Not yours, not mine. Whether it turns out to be good is impossible to know. This job isn't dependant upon one recruit, one play, one game, one staff hire. It took a decade to get us to this and multiple recruits, staffs, games and plays. It will take a long time to fully recover. Comparing Tennessee to any other institution is a waste of time. Other schools have different factors, some for, some against. It would take an entire book to outline those. Wringing your hands continually over every little single detail about every little thing, you might as well show up to the dorms and critique the toilet paper, flooring installation and lighting choices. Until the choice is made, we can only discuss the quality of the candidates and what we think about them. This is a fun time really. I love hearing about different up and coming coaches, recruits, and the like. I personally believe that we have the best coaching staff overall we've had since Fulmer, Cut, and Chief. If it is, in time, that will play out on the field and the results will pan out. Enjoy this, don't stress it so much.

This thread is on a subject that has been discussed ad nauseum in different threads over the past two weeks. You get the "dumb" responses because some have already given their opinion, in some cases several times and are tired of explaing it. IMO.

Also, speaking for myself only, I've read the OP's posts in other threads and its the same thing over and over. Some that really don't likePruitt are tired of discussing and just want to bish, moan, cry and try to get others to jump on that train with them, so they start a thread about what they've been complaining about in other threads.

I have no idea what is going on with this search and before I decide to call Pruitt an idiot or claim he has no clue, I'll wait and see what happens.

Tifwiw.

And you base this decision/statement solely on the fact the University of Tennessee hasn't announced a OC hire in a timely manner that best fits your schedule or desires???

if you were the OC of Houston [Bowl bound] or Ok State [Bowl bound] would you risk coming to Tennessee right now? We have not been good for 10 years and though I believe Pruitt will turn it around, he has no track record as a head coach. A gamble for a proven OC in a program that is rocking right now to leave and come here.

Not. Tennessee is a much better job than Houston or OKST for exposure and the opportunity to coach against the best. AND as you haven't noticed, Pruitt's Current Staff left other Programs that were "Rocking" . So they know what's coming at UT.
