Does Jalen Hurd Seem a Bit Too Tall For a Tailback?

I went to Beech and I heard that was his official measurement by the team before last season. I don't think he's gotten taller since then.

His mom is on record as saying his growth plates are fused according to their family physician so he should be done growing.

I can almost garauntee that Hurd is not 6'4". Let an NFL scout measure him combine style....probably 6'1", 6'2" at the most.

I CAN guarantee that you're wrong.

Look at pictures of Hurd next to Kelly or Vic. He's huge. There's no way he's shorter than 6'3".

Why would he exaggerate his height when he wants to play RB?

That's because Kelly and Vic's measurables are probably inflated too. Again, why do most players shrink when they get to the NFL combine?

and apparently the Falcons since Haskell Stanback.

Is Steve Bartkowski still the Falcons QB?

True story…I had a Haskell Stanback Falcons game jersey. I was working at a Blimpie in Lex while in college, and Haskell strolled in. I got to talk to him for a few minutes. He still looked like he could play.

Steven Jackson's Wiki page says he rushed for over 10,000 yards…that is hard to do from the IRL.

I have a piece of a Stanback UT jersey..they only lasted a couple of plays.

and 5'9" Wes Welker seem a bit too short for a NFL WR

If he's a good back, who cares how tall he is?

Because his height may realistically determine just how good of a back he will be, thus the entire point of this thread.

If he is really a legitimate 6'4 then history is strongly working against him. To be completely honest; RB's are overrated and it should not be hard to find an impact RB in the South; if this kid is really as athletic as implied, why not play him at LB where you could have a potentially elite NFL player?

I remember Al Wilson being a stud RB in high school as well as LB. I can't remember if CPF recruited him as a RB or LB. Does anyone else remember? He could play some football-enough said.

If our other recruits knee heals up you might want to keep an eye on him . He is a beast as well . If those two freshman come in health next year we could have another Gurley/Marshall looking freshman combo.

He's a much better athlete than Eddie George. George was a powerful, yet slow plodding 3 yds and a cloud of dust guy. Jalen has great size like Eddie, but he has elite speed, 4.37 speed and great burst. George had neither.

I mean, seriously? Has yet to play a game in college and he's already better than Eddie George??

A bit too tall? No.

A lot too tall? YES

I think his effectiveness against SEC defenses will be telling when they put him in.

There are plenty of examples of great backs over six feet. But 6-4 is really tall for a running back and, yes, size only hurts if it costs you something else, but the reason RBs arent' that tall is because height generally does come at the expense of agility. Which would be my biggest concern with Hurd is that he lacks the ability to change direction on a dime that you need in the SEC.

Tell that to Vernon Davis
