Does Currie Actually Have a Plan?

None of us are aware of what’s going on behind the scenes with Currie & the Administration.

But on the other hand, isn’t it concerning that we’ve not heard a peep about Butch’s potential departure from the program?

Sitting at 0-5 (Conf) 3-5 (Overall), you’d think that would be enough proof for our Administration to get together and announce Butch’s departure from the program.

Numerous articles stating that Currie is behind Butch and have a great relationship. To me, I think it’s just speak without trying to give out a negative vibe to the press.

Is this all part of Currie’s plan or is he trying to find a reason to keep Butch next year so they can avoid paying his buy-out?

The last few press conferences, Butch’s body language has it made it seem like he knows he’s out the door whenever Currie decides to pull the trigger whether it’s after Southern Miss or the end of the season.

But like I said, it could be pure speculation as well.

I’m not worried about Butch’s future because I think he’ll be fired soon but then there’s a part me where “silence”, could also be a bad thing.

I just don’t see the point of waiting it out when the proof has already been there after the UF loss. Butch has done all he could and he’s not going to improve regardless if he changed coordinators.

Is this Currie’s plan or is it going to be another Administration screw up that’ll set us back again?

It's most concerning that our ADMIN has made bad decision after bad decision.

Currie better have a plan. If has a brain, he should have known a year ago that Butch would need to be replaced this year.

I don’t know if he has a plan, but he is not a communicator at all. I understand keeping your strategy private, but communication is primary to prevent unfounded rumors. All he needed to do was say, we are not satisfied with the season, and I will evaluate our program at the seasons end. Our expectations have not changed, we will complete at championship levels in all of our endeavors.

Apparently....and in various ways/threads. I almost want to see Butch retained just for the entertainment of seeing the meltdown. It would be a sight to behold.

When you have a dumpser fire you have to take action. If the public eye he has not, and the customer is always right.......

He has a plan. He's not stupid, his job is to move our Athletic Department forward. His decision directly reflects on our University and his employment as Athletic Director.

in his SECOND year, Kirby Smart has Georgia at #1 in the nation and the Dawgs are looking like the monster that could likely rule the SEC for years.

in his FIFTH year, Butch Jones is presiding over a dumpster fire that is 0-5 in the SEC and LOST TO KENTUCKY and there are no bright spots as long as he is the Vols coach.

all you "Give Butch More Time" dummies out there -- what about this DONT YOU GET ?

It’s whatever you think.

UT’s Administration has proven time to time to make things more complicated than it actually should be.

When you keep a losing HC for as long as they have, fans are going to start raising eyebrows and ask questions.

Yes, he has a plan.

Whether it’s a good plan remains to be seen.

All that matters is that he gets it right in the end. That said, I wish he would come out with a statement that he is committed to Tennessee having a championship level football program.

The Florida AD is doing the same thing, He told them he was going to keep everything private and if you heard a rumor it was probably not true!

It is very common for a AD to keep things quiet, it is the media and fans who are speculating what will or won't happen at UT!

I'm not sure, so maybe I'm wrong here, but wasn't Holly a protégé of Pat's? If so, then Currie would know that he has to tread lightly in that arena, until there is a strong body of evidence to replace her.


Much the same with the current football situation. Damned if he does, and damned if he don't. There is ample evidence from other sources (CBJ, Shoop, players, VFL's, admin staff) that Currie is in fact doing something.


Just have to wait this one out, and either trust or hope for the best.

Would it make you feel better if Currie came out and said I hate butch jones and his goofy haircut. His kids stopped by for Halloween and instead of candy I gave them their dads pink slip. Every AD is going to say they stand behind there coach and have a great relationship. It's just talk. Butch will be fired, could be after Saturday could be at the end of the season. Just let it ride.

I do sense someone is Brainless alright. At this stage, very few believe giving Butch more time is a good idea (fans that is). Though, pointing to Georgia is a different case. Not often that happens but I sure do hope to have a new coach that does just that. Question is, if a new coach doesn't follow the great success had a Georgia, how long before VN calls for his head?

At this point, it seems that Currie’s plan is this:

1. Stand on field after we get embarrassed by another loss.

2. Make mean face. Impress no one.

3. Watch fan base in turmoil and extremely negative publicity attatch itself to our program — a “narrative of incompetence” surrounding the program.

4. Wait far too long in making a statement about #3, and when you do indicate that it’s possible that we will retain possibly the 2nd worse coach in our football program’s history.

There might be more to it. I hope there is.
