Does Butch Leave UT After '16 season?

I'm actually impressed. OP suggests we probably are going to have a championship type of season, which may cost us our coach.

He's a PosiNegaVol! Dual pump action — sunshine and doom. It's a beautiful thing.

A simple NO would of done just fine, but ahhh :lolabove:

great post TNnative :good!:

Thanks. After further thought, I might KINDA agree with the thread title.

I think Butch actually might leave.....after 16 SEASONS. Or at least I hope as long as he doesn't grow complacent.

While knowingly bumping this ridiculous thread goes against everything in me, I had to add my two cents.

Only a Tennessee fan could dream up a scenario in which we are worried about losing a coach that has yet to actually accomplish anything of significance. He's landed a couple of nice recruiting classes, won a couple of nice bowl games, and beat UGA one time.

Let's hold off on the statue and street naming for now.

Quality post.

Deer park thanks for your info- question for you I understand Butch is concerned about the lawsuit and who can blame him and how his name has been drug into it also (Bowles) but is it enough that would cause him to leave UT? Say if it gets settled and is forgotten and recruiting picks up and he has a great season rewarded with a big raise- is he still happy enough here to stay or has the honeymoon ended so to speak?

Congratulations. With a single post consisting of only 5 sentences, you have made D4H suddenly seem like a reasonably intelligent and sane individual that no longer is the person I view here as the one most desperately in need of an enema.

Not one point you made is worthy of response. All who have or will read it is now dumber for it. I award you no points,...and may God have mercy on your soul.

I regret that I could "like" this post only once.

I appreciate DeerPark's insights. That said - I've believed in CBJ since his first press conference - that he wants to be here and that he plans to be here for a long time. If it's true that he's ready to jump to the NFL if given a chance, because the lawsuit is making things tough, or the administration isn't responding like he thinks they should, I'll feel betrayed. I don't want to feel betrayed so I'll just continue to believe he's here because he wants to be; he plans on building something special here; and he isn't going to let anything stand in his way.

As I said in the RF, We all get a bit down sometimes. I'll keep my orange glasses on

If Butch leaves for the NFL, because he won a Natty then UT would be a very desirable destination for top coaching candidates. I don't know if I can handle another offseason of Grumors though.

On the contrary, I love Butch and hope he's here for 20 years. But anyone who knows those close to Butch know that he's frustrated with the way some off the field things have been portrayed and have been handled above him. He is concerned that the lawsuit and the perception will continue to be an unwanted hassle for the next two years.

I'm not predicting that it WILL happen, I'm just saying I wouldn't be surprised at all to see it happen.

Well if he doesn't like how the off the field stuff is being portrayed here, imagine how worse it would be at a different program like a Michigan or OSU, or even the NFL.

Plus if he were to go to a Michigan and a rash of rapes started happening, you know who's gonna get the blame? Butch, and then he'll get a stigma that he runs programs that "breeds a rape culture"

I don't see that as a reason for him leaving, because that type of stuff can happen any where.

I disagree but thanks for the discussion.

If everything goes as planned and Tennessee explodes onto the scene this year, Butch Jones' stock will never be any higher. Does he look at other job offers? With the lawsuit on-going he may be tired of having his name ran through the mud for no reason. I think some schools would be willing to throw a large sum of money at him which will at least cause some great concern for us to start the offseason.

Could this be a reality next year?

Which schools are willing to throw huge amount of money at him? I don't see any top schools hoping to get Jones. Is this just a "guess"? Or, do you have some actual knowledge that a school, or more than one school is willing to spend big bucks (or any bucks at all) to get jones?

I was listening to a local sports talk show on the radio here in Nashville during lunch. The sports announcer said "bUTch Jones" is merely a General Manager and he can build a coaching staff and a roster of great quality players, but he is not a coach"
He said that if you will look things when a time out is called, you will notice that bUtch will scream and yell and his face will turn red but the players are seldom paying attention to him and look the other way because even the players know he is not a good coach. Wow!!!!!

Some local Nashville ass hat said this? Well man it must be accurate.

Well, he obviously doesn't know what he's talking about. Jones will yell at refs, sure. He's yelled at his assistants (rarely) on the sidelines. But I can't think of an occasion in which he's berated a player during a game. He actually stays exceptionally calm with the players IMO. Jones has the respect of his players. They wouldn't be staying past graduation, delaying going to the NFL, etc. if these guys didn't believe in our coach. I'd like to see a clip of Jones yelling at players and them looking away.

Here's the funny/sad thing. This dude you were listening to on the radio? He's probably a regular in VolNation. He's among us. And yep, I bet he sounds just like that in the threads, too. He's just been kinda quiet lately. He was likely posting a LOT during the middle of the season last fall.

Just because a guy is able to swing a job talking on the radio doesn't mean he knows football, or has any inside knowledge. Often, just the opposite. I'm convinced some of those dudes get all their "insights" by reading VolNation or VQ or both.

p.s. No insult meant to Swain, or Ainge, or Doug Mathews. Those guys clearly know what they're talking about when it comes to football. No, the guys I'm talking about are just media communications majors who weren't good looking enough to make it in TV, so ended up with a radio gig.

You're largely correct JP. I heard the interview, or one eerily similar on 102.5 in Nashville. It was on Jared Stillmans' show, but the quote was actually from a sports radio guy from Jacksonville, Fla.

Jared Stillman grew up in Nashville as a Vandy fan, and admits to hating UT, and loves to be critical of Butch Jones, and all things UT. And yes, I believe he posts on here occasionally. I've heard him go on rants on his show, with an anti UT schtick, then see the same rant posted on here.
