Does Butch Leave UT After '16 season?

Let's be honest about a couple of things here:

1) Tennessee is a top destination RIGHT NOW after the work Jones has done to turn the program around. Used to not be, now it is again.

2) why would Jones make a lateral move to another program? Doesn't really make sense. Not like the Michigan, Ohio state or Alabama's of the world are gonna need a coach anytime soon.

3) Jones knows the potential in the SEC east. Continue good recruiting and we are in the discussion as a top contender for the SEC championship every year. Why would he give that up?

4) CBJ doesn't seem to me like an NFL head coach. Philosophies don't really mesh too well in the NFL.

Therefore, Jones is staying. It's science folks.

I agree with this. CBJ gets to pick his players as a college coach. In the NFL the General Manager picks the players and the coach has some influence depending on how much the owner allows. I don't see an NFL owner handing the keys of the franchise to CBJ, it could happen and would tempt him if one did, but I just do not see it.

Congratulations. With a single post consisting of only 5 sentences, you have made D4H suddenly seem like a reasonably intelligent and sane individual that no longer is the person I view here as the one most desperately in need of an enema.

Not one point you made is worthy of response. All who have or will read it is now dumber for it. I award you no points,...and may God have mercy on your soul.

Could not have said it better! :hi:

No way. The only way he leaves is if he retires or if we eventually fire him. I think he'll be at Tennessee a long time.

Why is it that when you have some goof on Ignore the thread they make still shows up? I know I can block the thread once I see it, but the damage is already done, and it's hard to forget the stupidity once you see it.

If everything goes as planned and Tennessee explodes onto the scene this year, Butch Jones' stock will never be any higher. Does he look at other job offers? With the lawsuit on-going he may be tired of having his name ran through the mud for no reason. I think some schools would be willing to throw a large sum of money at him which will at least cause some great concern for us to start the offseason.

Could this be a reality next year?

Dude you really need to get a hobby....or a job?

Where would he go?

Guys, anyone who slightly pays attention to college football knows all about Urban Crier. When Tebow graduated and Florida had a down year, Urban Crier announced that he needed to spend time with his family and thus resign from head coach at U.F.
He was talked out of it and he coached another year. That season was another down year at Florida, so he resigned.
He sat home and waited for the T.O.S.U. "THE Ohio State University" job.
Well, fast forward a few years ahead and now Harbaugh is on the scene at Michigan. Either this year or next year, Michigan will begin to dominate the BIG 10, " The BIG 10 acutally has 12 teams in it but the northerners can't count"
ONce Harbaugh starts to dominate the BIG 10, Urban Crier will leave. He wants to win immediately and win alot. He does not like rebuilding teams on a 5 year rebuilding cycle.
Once Crier is gone, look for T.O.S.U. to come calling for bUTch......

Agreed - if everything goes as planned which means we win big. This includes beating UF and/or Bama - if that does not happen Butch may still leave UT after the season but probably not by his own choice.

Ohio State will need a new coach in a couple of years, either after this season or after the following season.
Urban Crier has an ego and he has to have a winning program or else he will take his services elsewhere. He will leave T.O.S.U. once Michigan starts to dominate him.

I'm gonna take off my orange-tinted glasses just for a minute. With them on, I'm sure that Tennessee is one of the top 5 destinations in all college football, and that Butch is 100% aware that he's much better suited to college coaching than coaching in the NFL.

Now, with them off...

1. Tennessee has been, at times in our history, one of the top 10 programs in America. But that hasn't been true lately, and college football--like every entertainment industry--is a 'what have you done for me lately' world.

2. Today, Tennessee is clawing its way back into consideration as a top 25 program. With continued success, it might be considered a top 10 program again one day in the next few years. Paradoxically, Butch is a big part of making that so.

3. Today, any individual coach's top 5 or top 10 dream job destinations depends strongly on who they are, where they're from, how they've experienced life. You can bet coaching for your alma mater is a Big Deal for most coaches. IF your alma mater is a Power 5 program.

4. Butch's alma mater is not a Power 5 program. On the other hand, Butch grew up in B10 country. That doesn't seem to make him a huge fanboi of Michigan or Ohio State opportunities, though. I mean, we don't know what happened behind closed doors, but it didn't appear that Butch was angling for the Michigan job before Harbaugh got it. But maybe he was, and it was just all very hush-hush between his agent and the Michigan AD. We'll likely never know. We also don't know how large national brands like Notre Dame (which has the added advantage of being in the same B10 footprint Butch grew up in) might appeal to him.

5. Butch may not be as smart about where he fits as we think he is. Maybe he does really want to go to the NFL, as LWS has reported in another thread. Maybe he thinks he can adjust his coaching style, his leadership style, his tactics, practically everything about himself, to fit the pros. We all know he's wrong about that, but maybe he thinks so.

So with the orange-tinted glasses off, there is a possibility Butch would leave Tennessee for another job, either college or pro. It might not be likely, but it is certainly possible.

I would hope not, and not just for our sake but also for his. Get past the Title IX mess (this too shall pass), get past the rebuilding pains (and he is pretty much past them now), and he's got a really good situation in Knoxville. One that fits him like a glove. He can make a life, a life for the record books, at Tennessee. That's probably not true at any other destination he could reasonably aspire to, at this point.

Only question remaining is, does he realize it?

Okay, glasses back on. Butch is a V F L, he's said it himself. Go Vols!

I agree. Butch would want to immediately jump ship after a complete rebuild, and not reap the benefits of the program he just built.

On second thought. No. I do not agree.

If UT won the title, UT would match offers and Butch would stay here to start upping his winning % after it sank during the rebuild.

While knowingly bumping this ridiculous thread goes against everything in me, I had to add my two cents.

Only a Tennessee fan could dream up a scenario in which we are worried about losing a coach that has yet to actually accomplish anything of significance. He's landed a couple of nice recruiting classes, won a couple of nice bowl games, and beat UGA one time.

Let's hold off on the statue and street naming for now.

I'm always amused by these hit and run posts by supposed insiders. What's even worse is how many people are buying what they are selling.

In the unlikely event that bUTch leaves, we will be in good shape. His replacement may not be as upbeat as he is but when you try to replace a fired coach of a losing or declining program, it is hard to do.
For instance, no one really wanted the job after Fulmer, Kiffin or Dooley left. Coaches in the business all saw U.T. as a program on the decline that had to play Alabama, Florida & Georgia each and every year.
This is why Kelly, who was at Cincinnati but is now at Notre Dame, wasn't interested. That is why Butch Davis at UNC was not interested. That is why Gary Patterson at TCU was not interested. That is why the coach at Air Force was not interested.
We had to go to an up and coming coach from a lower level program who wanted an opportunity and a pay raise.
Now with the program being in good shape and recruiting in Tennessee being better, we should not have a problem replacing bUTch should he leave.

No, he can't. Has some sort of beef with Butch apparently.

On the contrary, I love Butch and hope he's here for 20 years. But anyone who knows those close to Butch know that he's frustrated with the way some off the field things have been portrayed and have been handled above him. He is concerned that the lawsuit and the perception will continue to be an unwanted hassle for the next two years.

I'm not predicting that it WILL happen, I'm just saying I wouldn't be surprised at all to see it happen.

Seriously... some of you guys have way too much time on your hands and really overthink things. Please season get here quickly lol.

Thank you! No Power 5 conference coach would stay anywhere if he left because of controversy! Ask Nick, Hugh, Jimbo, and on and on! He may leave today but it won't be because of any controversy! Geeez!
