Does Butch jump ship after this season if goes to SEC-CG?

Probably not. They'll put lipstick on a pig and call it JLo then risk a much larger buy out later.

Tennessee definitely seems to have the type of administration that would let a program rot in the long term to avoid having to do anything in the short term.

Butch has a losing SEC record in 4 years and that's with Vandy, KY, USC and Mizzou on the schedule every year. He's currently 4 games under .500. The App St and Ohio games, the slow/lackluster first halves, the Columbia disaster..

He'd better cling to his current job like black death imo.

He aint going no where unless he is sent somewhere. He is at the pinnacle of his career right now.

Chancellor should be named next week

Beverly Davenport most likely

If Brian Kelly decides to leave Notre Dame, history points to the trend that Butch would take over for him (as he did on two occasions at Central Michigan and Cincinnati). I say that half jokingly but its always a possibility.

I'm thinking Butch Jones was hired because they thought he could just keep things rolling the way Brian Kelly had them. Wouldn't make sense for them to turn to him now.

OP you left the most important factor(s) off your list (at least for the long term). Who will the next President and AD be and how will they view Butch?

If he wants to leave let him walk. He has proven to be in over his head and the lack of discipline has permeated our program and shows up in unmotivated performances, penalties and problem players rearing their ugly heads. He can not win the chess matches with other coaches and will not accept responsibility. In my opinion he has proved to be S.O.F.T.

Satisfied with being average
Only concerned about self
Finds excuses easily
Tough in speech, but not action

I appreciate the job he has done in rebuilding the roster and the program but the problems you can not ignore. If talent doesn’t help him out we lose to Ohio, App State, FL, and GA. If coaching does its job we smoke all of them and TAM and USC. I am not forgetting where we have been or where he has taken us but if he leaves let him walk, go get Jimbo or Fedora.

President? Trump (UT is replacing the Chancellor :))

AD? Blackburn...who's worked with Butch...nonissue.

I've been told the same thing with the exception it was within the next 2-3 weeks. Then once the Chancellor is in place then the new AD will be moved on pretty quick and for all intent it points to Blackburn. The admin will interview a few more in addition to him but if he wants it then it'll be him. TIFWIW.

Butch ain't "jumping ship", only "ship" I can think of is in Tampa. He ain't going to Tampa.

Where could he go that is a better situation that what he is at now? What great program is knocking down the door to hear "Brick by Brick" for the next 3 years. I am not a Butch hater by any means but sheesh he exactly hasn't lit it up to be bringing in a job at Texas or LSU.

A more accurate way to say it would be "Butch isn't getting any offer worth taking."

I'm almost ashamed of that post, it was an attempt at humor, you know, because of the "ship" in the stadium. I knew it was a stretch as I was typing it, but anyway, I agree with you.

To be fair, I thought that may have been the case.

Did Louisville steal Wake Forest's game plan? | NCAA Football | Sporting News

Really? Petrino. We should go after Petrino. Bobby Petrino. Like, THE Bobby Petrino?

I admire his success, I guess, but the man has a bad reputation for a reason, and Louisville has a reputation for turning a blind eye to walking garbage in their coaching positions as long as they win.

If we did offer Petrino we ought to make motorcycle riding lessons a prerequisite to a done deal...just sayin'

There's no way Jones deserves a raise after the USCe game and the on-going pattern of higher than normal attrition and injuries.

If someone makes an offer.... UT should let him take it. He hasn't earned what he's making yet.... much less more.

I actually agree that he doesn't deserve a raise but he's done better every year since he's been here and probably will play in the SEC championship game. UT won't let him walk away without a counter offer imo.
