Does Butch jump ship after this season if goes to SEC-CG?

In spite of our legions of the miserable among the forum-posting fan base and our boo-birds inside Neyland Stadium, Butch ain't going anywhere. He's where he wants to be, and he's where (to this point) most of us want him to be.

He's here because TN pays more than the Bearcats. If someone else offered more he would "want to be there".

Its not difficult really.

Woe is Butch. So your saying Tennessee is not a top program and if he did go to a top program I'm sure they would have no expectations.

No, Tennessee is a top program, and OM did not imply otherwise. What he/she DID imply was even though Tennessee was a dream job when he took it, the local media and a few crybaby fans who P&M about every little thing makes it a nightmare. Real effin quick!

Its hard enough to get to the top of this heap with full support. But when some tear at it just because they are pathetic worms? Hell. Man. I wouldn't wish that job on my worst enemy.

From now on, anytime Tennessee hires a coach? I am mailing them a sympathy card. Eventually, they will get it.

Sanders shut down his recruitment after committing. Alabama expressed interest and Pittman wanted to take him to Arkansas...there was no "made" involved in keeping him. You need to embrace reality and acknowledge that some players just don't work out. This isn't about "blame Dooley", it's accepting the hand he was dealt OL wise and the methods he's attempted to overcome it. He was left a one and out OL and Dooley hadn't recruited worth a damn in the interim since that first class. Look at the excuses they're hurling up down in Athens and they weren't even remotely left as bare a cupboard. He's got his recruits there presently and is even going to graduate the first one in Wiesman...the 3 star who made 2nd team All-SEC last season? Been "owning it" this season...maybe give em til the end of the year for the final grade?

I am not discounting anything from the mess that Dooley left.

After signing 82 players the past 3 seasons Dooley will soon cease to be a viable excuse for the slip ups on the field for Jones however. He has effectively flipped the entire roster at this point with those numbers.

Or more correctly, it's the excuse that the good fans here at Vol Nation continues to trot out no matter how shaky this team looks.

Dooley has nothing to do with this team being 102nd in turnover margin, somewhere in the 70's in penalty yards, blowing assignments on defense, Hurd being a reported malcontent, or Dobbs being schizophrenic in his passing attempts. That's coaching, pure and simple. Instilling discipline and good football instincts in players should happen from the first string down to the walk ons.

The final grade isn't out from me on Jones but it isn't looking good at this point based on just how poorly this team has prepared this year.

He gets a curve for the injuries and tough schedule but they certainly made it much harder on themselves than this season needed to be.

Butch is not the guy for the long run, imo. Whether he leaves on his own or is asked we had better have a great backup plan. Not the Keystone Cop routine Hart pulled the last time. It probably won't be this year or next but eventually folks will tire of his not being able to get through a season without messing up a game he and the team should win.

Cynical view, Beecher, but possibly true.

On the other hand, it's possible there's more behind his words than just dollars.

I'll prefer to believe the latter. Think the man is sincere about seeing more in Tennessee than just another job.

I think he delves himself into every job he takes. Totally immerses himself and loves the team he is with, until he moves on the next one. Lather, rinse, and repeat.

No issue with this.

Rumors like this, the first question you have to ask is this: how likely is it that some random forum poster knows what Butch's agent is doing behind closed doors and on private phone lines? And how likely is it that the person just made crap up? When the latter is a LOT more likely than the former, best to just ignore it.

I think all agents "shop" their clients continually. It makes for better negotiations on their side.

I heard somebody say that THEY heard somebody say that...:whistling:

The UTAD should have their own representative who has connections with these agents. That person would know who is shopping around and available. Can't be caught in a surprise.

TEam could be better next yr for a couple of reasons:

1) surely injuries cant be worse
2) with all these injuries, a lot of kids are getting to play and gaining experience
3) Lines of scrimmage will finally be manned by mostly upperclassmen for the first time since 2013.
4) Chandler and other freshmen RBs will blend in well with Kelly and this yrs freshmen
5) Shoop will have to be better
6) schedule isnt loaded with 4 toughest games in 4 straight weeks.

Sad truth is Dooley's impact is being felt today and will next year. Reason is Jones has had to play every freshman lineman, if they could play a lick, the minute they got to campus. Think about how much better guys like KMac, Tuttle, Jones, Hall, Robertson, Thomas would be in their 3rd, 4th and 5th year IF they could have been redshirted. Facts are Kmac should have been redshirted last year as should Jones and Hall but they had to play. Thomas should have been his freshman yr.

Bama redshirts 5* guys on line of scrimmage all the time. Tennessee has to play theirs too early and they get injured. Tuttle should have been redshirted this year to fully recover from his injury from last yr. No chance.

This administration already is setting this up for a disaster. Why has a replacement AD not been named. See Florida as to how you do that decisively and effectively.

So, if Butch jumps ship, we have a lame duck AD and no replacement to go out and make a solid hire. How do you think that will work out?

Honestly, I think in that scenario, you just name Shoop the interim for next year and see how he does. Not the preferred course, but I don't see a better alternative.

Hart? He is a lame duck.

I think Behr was implying that someone has been chosen but not publicly announced. I wouldn't trust Hart to find his way to the bathroom, much less have a feel for the football coaching merry go round at the end of the season.

I am not saying I want CBJ out but I've always felt that the UTAD needs to have a fall back plan in place at all times but especially near the end of the football season.

Its a feel good pitch to the fans, which is one of his strengths. He wouldn't be the first to pay lip service until more $ popped up (not that i think that will ever come up for him). It is what it is. I wouldn't fault him for it. Its bidness in the end.
