I say yes if decent offer. Here's why:
1) 2017 will likely be a step back. Other than a rs freshman QB and Jennings, no superstars.(so far none in current recruiting class)
2) SEC too competitive. Would be a better fit in ACC with only two really powerful teams.
3) No AD at UT.
4) Expectations too high and not appreciated at UT if you believe the rumors.
5) Burning red shirts like Calloway's doesn't look like someone planning for 4 more years.

Since we all think that the head coaching job at Tennessee is by far the greatest, most desireable job in all of the land, why would anyone not remain here?

Where would bUTch go that is better than this? Let's look at the jobs that are equal or slightly better than our job. Michigan? Coach already in place. T.O.S.U.? Coach already in place. "O" Bama? Coach in place. Florida may be considered better than us only because of the area for recruiting. New coach in place. UGA? New coach in place, need to give him a chance. Southern Cal.? I am sure that he is not even on USC"s radar when they hire a new coach this off season. LSU? They are looking for a homerun hire, not someone who is attempting to prove themselves.

So, where does bUTch go that is equal or up?

UT fans either have beaten dog syndrome or are still drinking Fulmer's koolaid, that it's hard to recruit here because of lack of in-state talent. Tee Higgins says hello.

I heard he was taking a job with the Cowboy's where he could beat the H@ll out of DD for leaving this team with no offense linemen.:eek:lol:

The only way Butch leaves UT is if he is fired. As of right now, no other school (or NFL team for that matter) is remotely interested in him, IMHO

This post has nothing to do with the topic. But I see a fellow Vol checking out Vol Nation in the lobby of the Marriott TownPlace Suites in Bentonville, AR.

Butch would take the Lsu job for enough money

Do you really think LSU would even think about our coach for there job, no way they will keep one of there own if there coach win's out the job is his he will get a new OC and give big bad bama a run for there money in the west, there talent level is just a little behind bama and there player's play there azz of for him, but if he did leave i wonder what big bad upcoming non power football coach would come here i guess we could get another DD.:thud:

where would he go?

this season told you nothing really good or bad about Butch in any significant way in either direction.

no one is offering him a job off this performance and no one is firing him.

If you've been paying attention, you could tell very early on that he wasn't gonna get it done. I didn't need this season to confirm anything.

He will probably have make a tough decision between the $10 mil/yr Nike founder is offering Jones to go to Oregon or $7mil/year LSU is offering. He was 100% on board to leaving for USCw until their upset last night will keep Helton around.

LSU wouldn't touch him with 10 foot pole. USC wouldn't either. He belongs in the MAC or Big East

After last night, I'd wager USC is relieved that they WAITED TO FIRE Helton. :wink2:

You're still going to have to wait to be right tho.

How long has Helton been there?

He was interim last year and this was his first hired season...two losses got em frantic but beating the number 4 team pretty handily is better than any AD endorsement. He ain't going anywhere. :)

3) No AD at UT.
4) Expectations too high and not appreciated at UT if you believe the rumors.
5) Burning red shirts like Calloway's doesn't look like someone planning for 4 more years.

1. From our current two-deep on offense, we lose Dobbs, most like Kamara, Weisman, and Croom. On defense, we lose Vereen, Lewis, most likely Barnett, possibly Kongbo, Sutton, and Foreman. On Special Teams, we lose no one. We should also get back several injured players.
2. No comment on this one
3. Not an issue.
4. Not appreciated by Volnation, all fans, administration, or someone else? He is not appreciated by many on Volnation and some other fans who expect to win every game, but many do appreciate what he has done so far. Look at where this program was when CBJ took over. In four of the previous five seasons, TN finished with a losing record. They had not finished with double digit wins since 2007. Financially, the athletic department was a mess. We are now ending three straight winning seasons having increased the win total each year. We have a chance to finish with 10 wins. We will go to a 3rd consecutive bowl game and may be in the SECG. In 2011-2012, the UT athletic department had a deficit of $3.98 million and finished the 2014-2015 year with a surplus of $13.1 million.
5. Burning Callaway's red shirt was out of necessity based upon injuries. Who else do you not think should be playing based upon having 16+ injuries to players in the two deep chart? He did not burn JG's red shirt, which was important.

I have been a critic of CBJ too, but we have to recognize the improvement that this team has made in his almost four years here. The depth chart is significantly improved, the W-L record has improved, we beat FL for the first time in too long, the financial situation has improved, the amount of attention from media sources has improved with having game day and other coverage, etc. TN is back in the discussion nationally of relevant programs. Give the guy a few more years and see what happens. If after 2017 we are not more improved, then he will definitely be on the hot seat. If he chooses to leave after this season and cites fan support and the administration as reasons, we would be screwed. Other coaches would be worried coming here where the coach is not appreciated after the changes that have taken place less than four years. Staff changes will be coming this off-season and our program will continue to get better.

Not happening. Next years schedule is the easiest we've had in a while. he's got 4 QBs to choose from and injuries should become healthy again. Also he loves this place.

Which "four QBs" are you referring to? Most likely we'll be down to three by the beginning of the season...depending on who wins the starting nod.
