"Donovan's success at Florida also came at a time when SEC football was beginning to overshadow SEC basketball."
Beginning? Is this guy kidding? Football has always overshadowed basketball in the SEC, and it still does regardless of the fact that Florida won two national championships in a row in basketball.
yea about the only thing i agreee with on this guy in that article is that Fla lost Billy Donovan
Well, he's correct that the loss of Donovan hurts SEC basketball as a whole. Where he misses the mark is in his conclusion that fans of other SEC schools care more about SEC basketball as a whole than the success of their own program within the SEC. I don't believe too many fans of other SEC programs will be shedding a tear for Florida or the SEC. They're all going to be seeing an opportunity for their own program to potentially move up in the pecking order in the conference.
losing that caliber of a coach, even with who is still in the league, does hurt a little.
and here's why. FL has been the measuring stick the past few years. you want to know how good you are in the SEC, play FL and you're going to probably find out if you are a pretender or contender.
now that he's gone, along with the 5 starters, who is going to provide that?
anyway, i do agree with the article...until somoene or a couple of teams step up and actually start doing something it's going to be hard to replace that....
