Does anyone else agree with this crap?

In the short term perhaps, but I think that Pearl will establish UT as the contender UK needs in the east.

My major question is: Will any program establish dominance in the West?

I think that it def. hurts the strength of the SEC, but I believe the author downplays UT as a serious contender. UT has an easier shot at an SEC crown, but it comes at the price of playing softer competition, which might hurt in the NCAA tourny.

Yes Donovan's departure hurts the SEC. The West has next to nothing going on, and now the East has one less national contender.

Come on people, Billy D. knew he had lost all of his players and rebuilding the team was waaaay harder than accepting $5 million plus to go try the NBA gig.

I don't agree with this statement:
Thursday was a tough day for Florida basketball fans. It wasn't much better for SEC fans.

I'm shedding no tears over Donovan's departure. Yes, a great SEC coach is now gone, and how that affects the future of UF hoops is presently unknown. But this really is an opportunity for UT and Bruce Pearl, who in my mind is now by far the best coach in the conference.

"Donovan's success at Florida also came at a time when SEC football was beginning to overshadow SEC basketball."

Beginning? Is this guy kidding? Football has always overshadowed basketball in the SEC, and it still does regardless of the fact that Florida won two national championships in a row in basketball.

Well, he's correct that the loss of Donovan hurts SEC basketball as a whole. Where he misses the mark is in his conclusion that fans of other SEC schools care more about SEC basketball as a whole than the success of their own program within the SEC. I don't believe too many fans of other SEC programs will be shedding a tear for Florida or the SEC. They're all going to be seeing an opportunity for their own program to potentially move up in the pecking order in the conference.

tennessee will replace fla as the top team in the SEC, and i believe Billy G will revive UK bball, and i believe the rest of the SEC will follow, well atleast the east for that matter, the west does have some issues but i believe Bama will start to be a contender again as well as Ole Miss in the coming years

Billy D's departure removes what would have been some rather intense spice for future UK-UF games.

Meh - no way...

It took Billy D. 9 years to get any real recognition. He was just known as a good recruiter who couldn't coach. Then he gets a ridiculous amount of talent and is able to make them work well as a team in one recruiting class (I'm not taking anything away from his coaching here - because he had to make his players work well together - and this recent N.C. proved even better coaching by keeping his players focus while steamrolling teams). Atleast Pearl has proved he can coach without the talent.

If Pearl does some how happen to stay at UT for 11 years I expect him to do just as well or better. No - not back to back N.C. - but wins, SEC titles/tournaments, etc. The chemistry and talent level of Florida the past two years was just incredible.

I disagree. Florida did not have crap until 2 yrs ago. Florida was set to have a bad year either way. So either way, I think TN is the only school that can contend this year.

theres nothing wrong in that article...Donovan made SEC basketball and brought it into a national stage...with him there has been more competition in the conference...with him gone, the SEC is going to be dull in coming years

I think Donovan is going to have trouble in the NBA based on his regular season record. As much talent as Florida had, they should've won more regular season games. The difference is, all he has to do in college is make the tournament. To make the NBA playoffs is quite different. I think if he gets into the playoffs, he'll do well based on his college numbers. But getting there is a whole new monster.

I'd say that in some years it's actually easier to make the NBA playoffs than the NCAA tournament. There are a lot of years when the #8 seed is right at .500.

losing that caliber of a coach, even with who is still in the league, does hurt a little.

and here's why. FL has been the measuring stick the past few years. you want to know how good you are in the SEC, play FL and you're going to probably find out if you are a pretender or contender.

now that he's gone, along with the 5 starters, who is going to provide that?

anyway, i do agree with the article...until somoene or a couple of teams step up and actually start doing something it's going to be hard to replace that....

We beat Florida with Buzz Peterson the year we went 14-17 I believe... IN Gainsville... so that didn't turn out to well :p where they had Walsh and crew... They really weren't a team to be intimidated by in his first 9 years.. actually pretty close to how Vanderbilt is these days in my opinion - before Donovan got his two N.C.
