Dobbs needs to be able to throw the deep ball like

Did you not watch the last game?

Dobbs threw a beautiful 40 yard bomb to Malone that went 67 yards for a TD. Very similar to the shot plays Buechele threw last night.

That ball was under thrown to the backside of a trailing DB. It took a spectacular catch from Malone over a lesser athlete to be successful. An SEC DB would have taken that ball the other direction .

Watching other offenses that have creative play calling makes me a little jealous. Nd doesn't have the talent we have but they always have a unique and creative gameplan. And a coach that is the polar opposite of Butch. Kelly is a riverboat gambler. Crazy Butch learned from him. What did he learn? He's nothing like Kelly

CBJ plays the percentages and utilizes his "analytics". That works better if you have a coordinator that can do the playground thing and draw up plays in the dirt. That's why the marriage of Kitten and Satan is, unfortunately, a beautiful thing.

It's a good thing he didn't come to TN bc according to Butch young players aren't capable of learning his complex offensive system and therefore should sit. Evidently we r the only school in nation that feels that way. Btw the center is a freshman also.
I don't understand his reluctance to play freshman. If they give you the best opportunity to win, them play them. Didn't stop Saban from putting one in, and USC had no answer for him !

The pass was great. Some just don't want to give Dobbs credit. They would rather bash a great play and our qb than admit he made a good downfield throw and they were wrong.

No....in front of Malone in stride would have been great. This was behind the trailing DB. Against Florida that pass goes the other direction.

Malone made a great play, and it didn't hurt us. It was his athleticism that made it successful....not the throw.

The Texas QB made 3 deep passes, 1 overthrow 2 on the money. Dobbs made 1 under thrown for a TD. Timing is everything, maybe more strikes downfield result in more catches as the timing gets better. I don't care if it's Peyton Manning himself he's gotta get his timing down with receivers so he know when and how far. You think Peyton just throws for hope of a catch? No, it's practiced numerous times till perfection. Marvin Harrison said many days in offseason just to learn speed downfield vs. Peyton arm strength and it worked out just fine. Our passing game sucks because we are a running team. Dobbs isn't great at "thinking", he over thinks the game. When our guys decide to start playing catch during the offseason and learn each other it'll pay off during season until then we are what we are, run oriented team with the occasional pass 5-10yards downfield .

There are 4 quarters in the game so why not throw deep 4 times in the game?

In the first drive Dobbs threw to Malone high. I don't think I saw a WR get hit in stride to make a catch and run. The TD throw to Malone was open the whole game to any number of WR, yet there was no attempt to throw to them. The middle of the field was open the whole game, yet the TE was only hit a few times. A WR slant would have been good too. I think that they should have used the short to middle passes (TE seam routes) on first down to open up the run and get Dobbs in rhythm. It would have worked better than trying to run every single first down play. The only time that they pretty much didn't run on first down was the TD bomb to Malone and the first down throw to Wolfe in OT. To take the next level and go to the SEC Championship game, Dobbs needs to get better at hitting his WR consistently in the numbers when they are open and in stride so they can put the D under pressure.

It's been like this since Butch arrived, not gonna consistently throw to TE or any kind of seam route

Dobbs should listen to the Swag Kelly rap song before each game. Always gets me hype

I wish Dobbs could throw it but he can't do it accurately enough in my opinion to be counted on. The more alarming stat is the bad middle of field passes, too high to low or behind receiver

Our wrs were blowing past app state all night

Yes and Dobbs doesn't know how to read the field. I highly doubt the coaches tell him "by the way, if you see an open receiver running down the field wide open just ignore it". He just isn't a great passer and the fact that he is a senior no matter who has been coaching him tells me that he will never be a great passer. He constantly misses wide open receivers and throws high on routes down the middle of the field. I don't blame CBJ for not letting him throw the ball 30 times a game. He was lucky to not be intercepted more than once.

We will not make it to the next level of achievement with a scrambling QB who also cannot make smart down field throws. We will obviously be one dimensional and no defense will respect us, just like Appy St didnt.

It may work to our advantage if they don't respect our deep ball. After a "very poorly" thrown ball goes for a TD late in the game why would they plan for the deep ball. If they have any sense they will keep Dobbs in the pocket rather than put pressure till they sack him(unlikely) or he scrambles for 1st down or TD(Ar 2nd half). Let him sit back there and throw "very poorly" thrown balls to our gifted WRs and hope that they don't get lucky.
