If Kelly had half the running talent we have he'd have 1,000 less passing and 300 less rushing yards. He won't survive season this year.

I think he should have declared this year - lack of talent around him this season is bound to hurt his higher round draft chances - much like it did Prescott

If Kelly puts up similar numbers, he'll likely be the #1 pick next year. Thats worth the wait.

Def better than Brisset and Kessler. Hackenburg is an enigma though. Uber talented, but, really took a step back with Franklin. He may turn out OK, but, I thought that maybe Petty would be able to step up for the Jets. Guess that's why I am not a NFL GM.

Hackenburg was distracted by his search for a girlfriend who met Franklin's approval...:)

Dobbs is a very solid college player who is good enough to get us where we want to go, and is a wonderful person and ambassador for our program.

Dobbs, Hurd and Kamara give us a historically good running game that has a chance at becoming the best in program history this fall. That coupled with an elite defense can get us a title if we catch some breaks.

And don't forget our SPECIAL Special Teams.

A lot of his receiver production returns, a lot of the returning OL have multiple starts and a lot of playing time in their careers plus they add what some scouting services say is the top OT in the country, Greg Little. With Akeem Judd taking over for Jaylen Walton, they may actually look to their running game more often....Walton was 5'8 170 whereas Judd can be a workhorse.

I can see what you're saying, OleMiss lost a lot of talent in both sides of the ball. But Kelly is very good and they do still have some pieces.

I think Watson still goes first, but there's little doubt that if Kelly puts up similar numbers that he's got a legit shot.

I received the wrath of vn for saying chad Kelly was a better qb than josh dobbs last season

Yeah, tough to give an honest opinion around here if that opinion is that a player from another team is better than a Vol.....even if pretty much everybody else who doesn't share our Vol fandom agrees.

At least going into this season I really don't know how anybody is going to write a story ranking a guy #7 in the nation in total offense per game (Kelly) behind a guy that finished outside the top 50 in that stat.

After next season...who knows? We'll see.

Agree. All they did is say that one guy threw for about 4100 yards and 31 tds vs the other guy who threw for about 2300 yards and 15 tds. So, check, one part of being "dual threat", throwing the ball, goes to Kelly, hands down.

Then they looked at the second component of "dual threat", running the ball. And honestly, while I believe Josh is very likely the better runner, the stats didnt reflect that, they were virtually a wash....149 carries, 671 yards, 4.7 ypc, 11 tds for Dobbs....106 carries, 509 yards, 4.8 ypc, 10 tds.

Taken together, for the purposes of making a list like this, how do you not put Kelly #1 and Josh #2? If the numbers were reversed and Dobbs wasn't ranked ahead of Kelly, the posters in this thread, including me, would go nuts.

A few disagreeing in the recruiting forum is hardly the wrath of VN. But isn't it time to just let it go? From December

I said chad kelly was a better qb than josh dobbs a while back and received the wrath of volnation

I agree, Josh is the better runner, probably the better overall athlete, but not by much if so. Kelly actually ran the ball pretty well last year without the benefit of a decent running game at all. Here are the running numbers compared.....

Dobbs- 146 carries, 671 yds, 4.6 avg, 11 tds

Kelly- 106 carries, 509 yds, 4.8 avg, 10 tds

And like you said, Kelly's by far the better passer. I'll not include the passing numbers out of respect for Dobbs.

Nb4 D4H says Kelly is a system QB who's only successful because of the offense he runs.

Agreed. Overall Kelly is the better QB up to this point. Hopefully Dobb's has made strides with his passing. I'm cautiously optimistic but fact is if he hasn't by now I'm not sure he ever will. Plus him not having a good QB Coach hasn't helped. But if our passing game can get going this offense is going to be lethal. PW has the potential to be one of the best WR's we have had in a long time and Josh Smith will be playing on Sundays as well.
