Doak Walker…Sampson Not a Finalist

That’s only one game. And we aren’t really even sure if Oregon is the best team. They only beat Ohio State by 1 at home. I don’t think they will win on a neutral field. Let’s see Jeanty do that over the course of 8 games against quality competition and see how he does. It’s easy to have a great game against one of these top teams but do it over an entire season. And don’t go trying to say he can only play whoever is on his schedule. No, no, no. These kids can transfer whenever they want and he could have gone to a bigger program but chose to stay and pad his stats.

By that measure who have we played? Georgia isn’t the Georgia they use to be and bama definitely isn’t. We’ve probably had the weakest sec schedule there is and struggled through most of it.

We’ve also played Alabama and Florida, that team that just beat Ole Miss. Even having one of the easiest SOS of the SEC it’s still 22nd in the country. Meanwhile, Notre Dame, SMU, and Boise State are in the 70s and 80s. I don’t want to hear anything about SOS because ours is better than every team not named Georgia currently ranked in the top 12.

Then beat who you play and don’t lose to Arkansas. You can’t truly dictate your strength of schedule because you never know how good or bad teams will be. Maybe the sec can add 30 more teams and make a 46 team conference. That’ll fix the superiority complex.

It’s not a superiority complex whenever all 16 teams have a SOS ranked in the top 37 and that’s only going to improve because Texas is playing A&M and Auburn is playing Alabama. So that will make 15 of the 16 teams in the top 30 with Ole Miss probably right on the outside after they play Mississippi State. And if we want to take it a step further, the 5 toughest schedules are all in the SEC. So yes, I guess that is a superiority complex 🤣

The thing about SOS is you still need to win. You can’t cry about somebody else’s schedule because you’re losing and they aren’t.

Who said I was crying? We’re winning lol. So what, we lost a road game in our freshman QB’s second road start. Georgia is what they are. Unbeatable at home since 2019. I would love to see Boise play at Arkansas and see how well they do lol

Boise would have suffered the same fate against Georgia.

They won 28 straight home games prior to our match up.

Samson has been extremely consistent. He's simply a very good RB and anyone arguing otherwise (regardless of their fandom) needs to watch more 2024 Vols football.

I don't understand the people trying to "unhappen" Jeanty though. It's been 5 years since anybody, anywhere in any conference has broken 2K. And Jeanty's done that in 11 games so far. Barring injury he'll have at least 2 more. He's also doing that at 7.5ypc. He's the only RB with 1K over 7ypc. Again, anywhere in FBS. To hear some people talk there "should" be half a dozen Jeanty types every year on G5 teams...but there isn't. Why not? Maybe because that level of accomplishment is actually pretty impressive regardless? I just don't get the hate.

Yes except Boise would have lost by at least twice as much. At least we were competitive on Georgia’s home turf for the majority of the game. I don’t think a single team in the country could go in there and play any better than we did. It would take Beck having one of those 3 pick games for them to lose at home. And even then they might pull a win out.

Kind of like Oklahoma this year. They were supposed to be better. Our win there was considered solid and a good road win at the time. Then they performed worse for several games and all of a sudden it's not considered a great road victory.....until late last Saturday night. The SOS can change. Florida isn't all of a sudden so bad either

Oklahoma and Florida got the shaft as far as conference scheduling is concerned compared to say Ole Miss and Texas. There is a reason why some teams in the country only have 1 loss. Look no further than their conference schedule compared to the rest of the teams in the conference. It matters who you play and people who dismiss that are just trolling.

Yea but basically that’s there entire schedule… go ahead and post the rest of ours though to keep comparing?

There’s nothing to compare. Jeanty is the best back by a good margin. They played some decent teams and the #1 team that they took to the wire. They also played some bad teams and beat them. We played a mediocre bama and a very average UGA. We lost to a bad Arkansas and struggled in pretty much every SEC game. We also had our share of cupcakes. Sampson maybe could have gotten an invite ahead of the other two but the winner is already clear.

He’s having one of the best seasons in recent memory for an SEC running back. They would be all over him if he played for Bama or Georgia. This is indeed shameful. Biased media is biased.
Same media that told us we were now playing big boy football bc Texas joined the conference. Same ones that essentially said the SEC was on notice now.

If we won against Arkansas, Sampson would still not be nominated for this award because we’ve played against fewer cupcakes. That’s the point

Also, the teams that we have played that are bad all have good defenses (other than the obvious ones).

I think Sampson and Jeanty are probably comparable. OLs add a lot to their stats as well; we probably have a better run blocking OL than Boise

Here are the run defenses Jeanty has played against. Yds per game, followed by teams that gained over 200 on them:

Ga Southern 180 5
Oregon 118 2
Wash St 177 3 460 vs New Mexico
Utah St 226 7
Hawaii 153 4 over 600 last 2 games
UNLV 104 0
San Diego State 201 6 2 over 300
Nevada 179 4
San Jose State 158 2
Wyoming 199 5 400 vs New Mexico
Oregon State 178 4

Here's who Sampson played:

NC State 138 3
Kent State 264 10
Oklahoma 105 0 (177)
Arkansas 115 0 (174)
Florida 161 3
Alabama 143 3
Kentucky 144 2
Miss State 216 6
Georgia 135 3
UTEP 177 6

Notice that the run defenses of "mediocre Bama" and "average Georgia" (as you call them) would be 3rd and 4th on Jeanty's list (even without adjusting for the difference in quality of conference). It's absurd to think his production wouldn't drop significantly playing our schedule.

I'll be honest... This is good news for the guy this weekend. Take out all the anger against this big bad vaunted Vandy team people are worrying about.
Was thinking exactly that. Put a chip on a guy like Sampson's shoulder and it might be just the spark our offense needs to avoid the usual slow starts.

You put in a lot of work for nothing.
