Do we really need a SECT game?

It’s not. Since when do the 1,2,4 seeds play and the 3 gets a bye?

1 played 4
2,5,6 played much lesser competition.

Not a playoff.
Ya....we’re never going to have a playoff.
Championship games would have to go away and they make too much money.

Take the 5 power conference winners and 3 at larges. How does that ruin the regular season? Winning your conference is still important and you have the potential of giving some Cinderella teams a shot. I think 8 is the perfect number.
It would hurt, not ruin it. But the biggest problem I see is that it wouldn’t stop at 8. It would grow.

Especially when not everyone plays one. ND is just sitting there waiting for others to screw up while they shotgun some beers on their couch. It’s ridiculous.

8 team playoff is a horrible idea. Because the format would be the Power 5 would get spots via conference champion, 1 group of 5 would get a spot, and 2 at large spots.

The group of 5 school would 99% be the 8 seed and would get demolished every year. To top it off, the head coach of that Group of 5 school likely bolts to a bigger job as said head coaches would be hot commodities and those head coaches would want to get to new gigs as soon as possible to get recruiting before December signing day.

So now you basically have a wasted game for nothing.

If any expansions occur, it should be a 6 team playoff with 1/2 getting a “bye.”

For the record, I’m fine with the 4 team spot.
That’s quite a few assumptions. You can’t just say there’s a 100% chance the Group of 5 team gets destroyed as justification for keeping the playoff as it is currently. Under the 4 team format undefeated teams and Power 5 conference champions are being left out on a regular basis.

Go back to the old days.
SEC to Sugar
Big10-pac12 to Rose
Big12....hell, bring back the SWC to Cotton

Let different polls vote on #1 and quit ruining the best team sport on the planet.

$$$$$ ruins everything!

Sorry......bitchy mood😇

Edit: no I’m not.....it’s the truth
No we don't want polls of fans deciding.

I'm right there with you, and it ain't no better than it was except that ticket prices to go to any of the bowls now are off the charts.

This SEC title game was really good. It was imo the best two teams in the nation.
I highly doubt any of the playoff games will be close in quality.
That being said we could of seen Nd/OSU
UGA/OU and Clemson/Michigan. All would of been better than the respective title games of the big 10, big 12 and ACC. Now UCF would be slaughtered much like Hawaii did against Georgia back in 2005 in the Sugar bowl. UCF has also won 24 in a row let Bama shut them up and basically have a bye before a New Year's eve date with Georgia.

Why not just limit the FBS to 128 teams and start the playoffs after the 6th week of the season? 1 plays 128, 2 plays 127, etc. Winners advance and losers play each other to finish the season. After 8 weeks, you would have the last team standing as Champion and have a true end-of-season standings. The existing bowls could be revised to host the games throughout the tourney run. I think last year there 40 bowl games, so if you cut it down to 31 games then you could start bowls at the round of 32 or have some bowls available for the losers from the rounds of 16 or later.

For the SEC, each team plays the teams in their half of the conference for seeding purposes. After that, they are thrown into the big tourney.

I'm not sure why your going to bat for UCF, it's strange. Even more strange is that you can't see them getting beat by 50 by anyone in the top 10.
We'll never know about whether or not they would get beat by 50 or even - shocker - actually be a quality football program and beat someone.

Of course Bama was handed the championship in the preseason, so there's that.

I guess I am just sick of people acting like the championship is any different than it was in 1975 because there is a 4 team playoff. It is not one damned bit different except for ticket and commercial prices. It is still a popularity contest now chosen by a 'committee'. Name one good thing that is done by committee.

SO what if Bama loses in the championship. Was it still the two best teams in the nation?

I’m cool with the current format. For one, I don’t think anyone has been blatantly unjustly left out so far, unlike the the BSC when only 2 were selected there was often disagreement on who #2 should have been.

In this case, Bama was safe going in undefeated ranked #1. They had demonstrated that all season long. UGA wins and both teams get in. But because UGA has one loss the SECCG was basically their first round. If both teams had one loss or been undefeated then loser would have been at the mercy of other CG outcomes.

I love the regular season demands perfection. It’s one reason I have always been less interested in NFL and basketball. Both require only to win just enough for the postseason. But NCAA Football allows one off week at most. Much more exciting.

Then UGA should be in the final four... IF, like many keep telling me, the committee chooses the best teams, NOT simply conference champions.

Shouldn't of ran a fake punt vs the backup Quarterback

If Bama still wins but on a last second field goal UGA would have got in imo
