Do we make the Final 4?

How are you guys predicting how far we are going to go without even seeing the matchups? This is pointless because this team could be playing completely different here in a few weeks. Anyone that knows anything about basketball will tell you that shooters will go into slumps.

Right now Turner is 4-23 from 3 in the past 3 games.
Bowden is 0-7.
Admiral 6-18 (33% not bad but he can shoot better than this)

The only player hitting outside shots right now is Bone who is 7-13.

We will not win big games with our best 3 point shooters being ice cold. I believe that these guys will find their touch again and we'll start playing much better.

can't reach a final four without a strong post presence, regardless of outside shooting. JMO. take it from there.

It's a crap shoot. Rarely does the best team win. It's almost always one of the best, but quite often never the team that could be labeled as "regular season champs".

Football should take note, since basketball went to 64 then 68 teams from 32 rarely does the best team win. Does not mean any team can win but it does mean you MUST be lucky and good to win. Being good just is not enough with this many games to play, similar to what a 16 team football playoff would offer.

Lol, we have one of the best benches in the country. We've only lost three games, all three to really good teams. You guys are insanely pessimistic.

Exactly!

When was the last Tennessee team that 27 games into the season had only lost 3 and all 3 losses were to ranked teams and 2 of the 3 were in overtime? Think about it. This team is only 2 points in regulation away from being 26 and 1 with a single loss at Rupp to a top 5 Kentucky team who started the season ranked #1.

That is an insanely good resume and the doomsayers on this board are, in fact, "insanely pessimistic!" Toughen up buttercups! Go Vols!

Might make the Final 4 in the S.E.C. tourney but not in the NCAA. We have lost our mojo & are playing tired & slow, as if our legs are tired.
We limp in to the NCAA & not hit our stride. If we draw a real hungry team in the NCAA, we will get eliminated in the 1st round. A Chicago-Loy. or a Baltimore County Junior College would beat us in the 1st round.

The Men's team will go deeper in the Tournament that the Lady VOLS...book it..

I agree because I don't see the Lady Vol's making the NCAA or at least I hope they don't make the NCAA. We need to put pressure on Holly and make it to where Fulmer doesn't extend her contract. Make her retire.
Restore the breathing. Stop the bleeding & treat for shock. Program is going down quickly and another season with Holly, the program will be admitted to the ICU.

If they truly believe they can, they will.

This ain't Upward and everyone is not a winner! Vols are not the most talented team in the nation and they will need to play more consistent on offense (need Bowden, Turner, and Alexander to step up) and be tougher on the defensive end and in rebounding.

It's possible but they will need to play at their highest level, get some good match ups, and get a few breaks along the way. Doubtful but possible.

I am confident VolNation is over-reacting. I don’t trust polls - coaches are biased and so is the media. I think the true indicator to use is Vegas - too much money involved to let bias enter into the equation. As of yesterday UT only had seven teams with better odds to make the final four. You started the season at 40 to 1 - ended December at 15 to 1. You now are at 16 to 1. Vegas hasn’t negatively waivered much even with two recent loses.

I need to see the remainder of the regular season to feel one way or another.

Based on the last week, I think this team lost some of its toughness that it had early on. I think this is due to an exceptionally weak SEC schedule. Once they hit real adversity again, they floundered.

I think with the right draw, they can make the final four but I'm not ready to say that UT can make the final 4 no matter who they play. They just arent proving to be that tough any more.

Yeah but you kind of tied your own noose with those stats. Its kind of hard to feel good about making a field of four when there are seven teams considered more likely to do it...LOL

If I was told before the season started that we would be 24-3 near the end of February, I would have been ecstatic. This thread makes it seem like we are fighting for a tourney spot. Anything can happen in basketball, we may not make the Final Four, but we have the team that can make a run and do it. This team is virtually unbeatable when they are hitting on all cylinders. We've all witnessed it for most of the season.

If we get a bracket like Joe Lunardi released this morning, I'd take our chances. Playing close to home in Louisville with Virginia as the 1 seed. All other teams in the regional are teams we should handle and I think we could beat Va if we rolled to that regional final.

Do Not Write this team off....

Can they make it to the FF....Yes.

1-3 seed will be fine.

Reasons For: Draw -- TBD. We have the talent and the Depth. Coaching....Excellent will make the necessary adjustments. Team is Athletic and no quit. Capable of beating any team in the field. It's a Marathon not a race.

Reasons Against: Officiating, Grind. Wear and Tear but they should be ready come NCAA Tourney. Avoid the let down of last year will linger this can be a FOR or an AGAINST. Reasons we can't close out games.

Variables: Health, Shooting Slumps, Defense will factor. Zones vs Man Will have to mix it up. Failure to make the adjustments. Execution. Officiating will be tighter in my opinion as it has in the past NCAA and it will not be like the KY and LSU games we have witnessed.

Other: This team appears to be tired (Physically and Mentally) as mentioned by several throughout the threads. IMO, they will get some much deserved R&R between tournaments. Seeding not as important as draw. Can't speculate how far we go, because Brackets cannot be determined. A 1-3 Seed & Draw. Momentum and Health Key factors.

With all this said, we can beat any tourney team in the Field.....

Bowden, Turner, and Pons don't quite add up to the best bench in the country. When Alexander is out the drop-off in talent and size is BIG.

It's about matchups and hitting your ceiling at just right time. Overall odds would be fairly low but far from impossible.

We will go to the sweet 16 and with a little luck of the draw to the final 4, there is not that 1 team out there that is dominated the season from the start , Duke,Kentucky, NC, Zags , Cavs and Tennessee one of them will cut the nets down in April you got about 8 more teams out there that could get to the final 4 but they can't win it like Kansas Michigan and a few others, we just got to get hot right before the dance starts and we will make a deep run.

For one I never said we had the best in the county, I said one of.... Also, Most teams are lucky to have one player as good as Bowden or Turner coming off of their bench. Turner was SEC 6th man of the year last year and Bowden could possibly win it this year. Also, Pons is freakishly ahtletic and Fulkerson is not bad when he comes off the bench. There are top ten ten teams in the country with zero bench production. Take a look at Duke's bench.
