I’m sure the seniors care about the rest of season but what about the other players? Are they making their way to transfer portal?

You expect all the players to bail because we lost to Oklahoma? Really?

The underclassmen that plan to be at Tennessee next year and want to be a starter should care - they still have 4 games to prove their ability.

And even those that may plan on transferring - what does that say about their character when they just give up because something didn't go their way? Why would any school want a quitter?!?!

I heard from a reliable source that most of the team know those that have left have regretted it. Some have got more money, some more PT but very few have moved to a better program or situation.

I would say the majority care. They are basically in audition mode their whole career, whether it be for playing time, more NIL money from Tennessee, more NIL money from another school, or NFL draft status.

There are always going to be some that don’t put in the max effort, but those guys tend to be the ones you don’t want anyways.

Competitors care…. Alpha dogs care…. Sore losers care…. All the work that goes into playing means they care….. but if there are any that don’t….. F ‘em. The team doesn’t need them

This has been the question about the draft for bowl "opt outs" for the last several years.

Some schools might be glad their potential player isn't risking their health in our last 3 games and have put their effort on cruise control. After all, Tennessee's success is no longer the player's concern if they've already had some interest from another school and it's certainly not the concern of another school if they're looking to pick up a UT player.

It might have nothing to do with our success or our losses but everything to do with simply another team making a better offer.

It's unlikely players hit the portal because we aren't going to the CFP because most of our guys have no guarantee of going to a "sure thing" CFP team.

After losing a chance at the CFP, one would expect a letdown from the team but that's hardly a new thing in sports. Most players will bounce back if leadership is in good shape in the locker room.

We had a couple hit the portal not many days for our playoff butt whipping last season....That's about as bad as it gets.

Almost like the portal opened right about that time after having been closed for 8 months

Most of our receiving corp last year was dissatisfied with Nico and we were dissatisfied with their performance.

I love a good conspiracy theory as much as thee next person, but sometimes life just happens man.

This, IMO, is a classic rhetorical question. No one knows if we will see a lot or a few in the portal. I'd guess....at least a few because almost every single program will experience it. But...to answer rhetorically....NO....I do not see a wholesale transfer list.

We'll find out in the next few weeks. If they don't, then we don't have the right culture within the program.
Come on. Everyone was clamoring for players to "get theirs" and now that they are, we're calling it a culture issue? Kids are going to chase a dollar. Most won't sniff the NFL so this is their peak earning time. Has nothing to do with the culture. This is now a business. The sooner fans accept this new reality the better.

I don't know if everyone was clamoring for it but the Supreme Court certainly said it needed to happen that the kids get a piece of the pie.

But when they clamored, things definitely changed for the players but the NCAA and schools had been treating it as a business for a long time.

NIL and paying players are called the same, but the bigger ($100,000. Or above) NIL deals have nothing to do with name, image, likeness. How many people outside of Knox even recognize an image of 90% of the football team. And how many players in the South would recognize 5% of Oh State players. Heck, Nico got $2M dollars and nobody outside his area of Cali even knew him.

Well, the better you play the more your perceived worth is. It would be dumb not to care, though I suppose it’s possible.

It’s like any job now. Some people will take pride in any job they have and give it their all, no matter how horrible the job is or how much they get paid or anything. Some people will turn in a good effort and give a shít, but the paycheck is the most important thing. And finally some people really don’t care at all, they have no plans of staying around long term, and they couldn’t care less what anyone thinks of them or the job they do.

This reflects my thoughts on paying players. Here is your base per game (x), you grade out every game from great (y1), good (y2), satisfactory (y3) you get paid more accordingly. Play < satisfactory (-z1), bad (-z2), awful (-z3).

Then we will see people give their best. This should go for coaches as well.

Next problem is who should grade them.
