Do fans have the right

Great post ColliervilleCard.

However, I am of the belief that it is our duty to help effect change - and to do this through the various means possible including 1) emailing Hamilton and respectfully voicing our displeasure, and 2) limiting or withholding entirely financial support to the football program until changes are made.

I believe we can still lend our moral support to the players and root for them to win games, while advocating a change in the coaching regime.

that saying had to be made up by a customer because it sure isn't true.

Haha! Of course it isn't, but customer service and catering to the client, listening and responding to their input is the sign of a strong business dedicated to growth and success.

Shoot, would we be fans if we didn't complain about something?

I'm still debating on whether or not to send an e-mail to Mike Hamilton. Considering I'm neither an alum (or even student) nor a donor (and I was going to admit those facts in said e-mail), would he even care what I had to say?

I'm in the exact same boat. Just been a fan (pretty loyal one, however) since I grew up in Kville when I was 6 yrs old. I haven't written MH and don't think I will. If I were MH there'd be thousands of others who I'd pay more attention to. If I had more invested I definitely would, b/c my investment (time, $$, energy) would not be matching the return (satisfaction, entertainment, etc.).

to complain? Being new to the board I am suprised at the all for the Vols or you are somehow not a true fan if you are critical.

I am a 1968 grad of UT and have a deep love for the university. Almost every sucess I have had in life can be traced to the education and influence the university gave me. In 1966 my family experienced financial problems and the university arranged scholarships and a job with the athletic department to allow me to continue my education. I have tried to pay the university back by being a contributor to the athletic and general scholarship funds for over 20 years. The VASF license plates are proudly displayed on my vehicles.

The university is much more than athletics. That being said our young men, women, and coaching staffs represent UT to the majority of the country. When we have success on the playing fields enrollment and contributions increase substantially. Right or wrong the performance of our football team has hurt the university.

I have had the pleasure of meeting and talking with all of our present football coaching staff. They are all fine men who truly care about the university and want to win as much as any fan. I take no pleasure in questioning if they can in todays environment.

I do not want a repeat of the Majors situation. It caused long time friends to choose sides and damage relationships. I am afraid we heading the same way with coach Fulmer.

I would never withhold my contributions or boycott the games I attend. I do reserve the right to be critical of any aspect of the universities programs. I don't expect us to win national championships each year but the effort in the last 30games is not acceptable. The embarrassment saturday has been in the making for the past 5 years. This must change. If the present coaching staff is unable to accomplish the turn around it is time to replace them. I truly believe UT is at a crossroads that will affect the university long after I and the present coaching staff are gone.

I will always be a loyal Vol, but I understand the frustration of the fans. I can only hope the future is brighter for all Vols

With age comes wisdom. :salute:

P.S. I was 3 when you graduated from UT.:shhh:

Excellent post and thank you for putting thought and time into it. I couldnt agree more that I dont want the current situation to end up like the Majors situation. We have the duty as fans to demand change but also demand civility in that change.

Very well thought out post. As much as we need change, we also need things to stay as respectful as possible. We are dealing with a man who has devoted basically his whole life to UT.

I agree that CPF should be treated with respect. However, given the amount of his paycheck, he should also respect the University, the fans, and the state. He should announce his retirement now, and finish out the season with full support from all fans.

That saying was made up by a smart retailer. If you always give the customer what he wants, and what is right in his mind, he has no reason to shop elsewhere.

Not only do you have the right to complain but I would say that, for the sake of the university and future students like yourself in 1968, you have a duty to complain.

Thanks gator. I enjoy your posts and perspectives from a good gator. Good luck with LSU. :hi:
