to complain? Being new to the board I am suprised at the all for the Vols or you are somehow not a true fan if you are critical.
I am a 1968 grad of UT and have a deep love for the university. Almost every sucess I have had in life can be traced to the education and influence the university gave me. In 1966 my family experienced financial problems and the university arranged scholarships and a job with the athletic department to allow me to continue my education. I have tried to pay the university back by being a contributor to the athletic and general scholarship funds for over 20 years. The VASF license plates are proudly displayed on my vehicles.
The university is much more than athletics. That being said our young men, women, and coaching staffs represent UT to the majority of the country. When we have success on the playing fields enrollment and contributions increase substantially. Right or wrong the performance of our football team has hurt the university.
I have had the pleasure of meeting and talking with all of our present football coaching staff. They are all fine men who truly care about the university and want to win as much as any fan. I take no pleasure in questioning if they can in todays environment.
I do not want a repeat of the Majors situation. It caused long time friends to choose sides and damage relationships. I am afraid we heading the same way with coach Fulmer.
I would never withhold my contributions or boycott the games I attend. I do reserve the right to be critical of any aspect of the universities programs. I don't expect us to win national championships each year but the effort in the last 30games is not acceptable. The embarrassment saturday has been in the making for the past 5 years. This must change. If the present coaching staff is unable to accomplish the turn around it is time to replace them. I truly believe UT is at a crossroads that will affect the university long after I and the present coaching staff are gone.
I will always be a loyal Vol, but I understand the frustration of the fans. I can only hope the future is brighter for all Vols
