Do Aidoo and/or Tamba still have their redshirts available?

I don’t know the basketball rules compared to football. Pretty sure Aidoo played in a game early, but don’t know about Tamba. And I don’t know if playing in that game burned Aidoo’s redshirt.

They can play 4 games without burning a redshirt in football.

Seems like basketball should change its rules if one minute burns a basketball redshirt. Not exactly equitable rules between the two sports.
It’s on the table and is expected to get done, the question will likely be can it be retroactive.

Barnes is on the committee I believe. I don’t think he plays Aidoo yesterday if he didn’t have some kind of inside knowledge about the situation

And curiously Diboundje did NOT play at all versus USCjr. Both QD and Aidoo are at 6 games each which will be 20% of the regular season. But it might not mean anything.

The current rule is if a player plays at all (walks out on the floor for a second) then the redshirt is burned. Therefore, only Tambe is eligible for redshirt.

As BTO said, the rule is being reviewed for change.

What happened? It used to be as long as you played in less than 33% of games, that you were eligible for RS. When did they go back to the hard core rule of play at all and burn the RS?

It has always been a lost redshirt as soon as a player enters any game other than the exhibitions.

The medical hardship waiver can be considered (appealed to the NCAA) as long as a player hasn’t played in more than 30% of games and none in the second 50%. Fulkerson made the cut by the thinnest possible margin.

I have to hope it doesn't matter for Aidoo. A 7 foot borderline 5 star shouldn't be a 4-year player if things go correctly.

If Aidoo was a borderline 5 star, why has he not played? The answer is obvious--he's not ready, and that might beg the question of how talented he really is. It's not like we don't need front-court help.

I think that the staff was keeping the medical hardship waiver in play since he had mono in addition to an injury. That’s now off of the table since USCe isn’t in the first 50% of games.

The medical issues have slowed his progress learning how to play defense.

It would be nice to see Tamba, Aidoo, and BHH all show tremendous improvement next year to add to Plav and ON.
I have no inside information. Just my own opinion. But I will be extremely surprised if we will see BHH show improvement next year while wearing UT orange.

Redshirts are tricky. I remember Renaldo Woolridbe refusing to go into a game at the end and fans were calling him a bad teammate etc. in reality he applied for a medical redshirt, got it, but the coach at the time didn't want him and he went on to USC for his 5th season.

Aha. That's probably what was rolling around my brain. Med RS.

Why do you think that? He’s very young and is probably overwhelmed at this point. I think a 2nd year under Barnes could see him take a big step forward.

He needs to add about 20 or more pounds of muscle to play in the SEC. the off season workouts and Summer work will do wonders. He has the skills to play and Barnes and staff will have him mentally and physically ready to play this Fall.
