The cincinatti QB who just entered the portal is on record as saying the one place he'd love to play is Neyland. He has family in Knoxville. Went to games growing up. I'd say if we take anyone in the portal is should be him.
Also his girlfriend committed to Texas Tech in volleyball his family is originally from Texas

Isn’t he a Diva?

Yeah who should be at Georgia right now, but went to Lincoln and fell on his face. He is assured to play his last 2 years in order to even have a chance at the next level. So getting a 2 year QB guaranteed is a luxury.

If Heupel thinks like many on here seem to, and it will be a lost season to go into 2026 without an experienced portal QB to start, my question is why does Heupel have (including Faizon) a probable $3M of NIL money tied up in players that can’t play any meaningful downs this year? It would bankrupt companies that don’t have to pay their own bills, but is fine as long as fans and booster continue to believe every QB you sign is the next Tim Tebow or Joe Burrow talent as a HS Signee.

Okay that still doesn't solve your problem. One of our 2 heralded QB recruits sitting on the roster are going to ride the bench for atleast 2 years here. Given Heupel's track record, it will likely be Faizon and Gmac will start next year. If he is successful, he will start in 2027. If he is successful enough to be first round grade, he will go to the draft. If not a first round grade, good chance he comes back for senior year. In that scenario, Faizon is a non factor here.

I personally hate the idea of going all in on 5 star QB recruits. Most of them will bolt after one year for not getting something they want and hardly few ever go the Ty Simpson route of waiting it out.

If you are someone that wants to see Faizon on the field as early as possible, you are hoping Heupel gets a one year rental at QB via the portal for 2026 season and Faizon starts the 2027 season. That means Gmac transfers out this offseason.
With the new era in CFB, this is the new norm. If you're not starting by your sophomore year, you'll probably have to portal out. The pressure on coaches is too great to "win now" and the $ for new potential players is too attractive ("grass is greener" syndrome).

I agree it’s the new norm. My personal preference in this new era is to go find a QB with at least 2 years left of eligibility. I think that’s the sweet spot. You’re hardly going to see a 3-4 year starter again.

Except his uncle was the OL coach until getting fired* a month or so ago.

He does have a weird obsession with being a mini Mahomes though.

*also the reason little bro de-committed

It would be risky but if he wanted to come here I wouldn’t mind it. DJ is very talented. Under Heupel? You never know.

Who you prefer this year. Simpson as a SR playing in the SEC or Sayin as a redshirt FR playing in the B10G.
That will answer your questions. One in the playoffs as a Sr beating 5 ranked teams in a row losing in conference championship game and the other a Fr undefeated regular season losing in conference championship game. If you have talent, it Don’t Matter
how many games you started.

Why do other schools like OSU start redshirt freshman at QB and have success while we have to bring in portal qbs every year and our 5 star qbs have to sit on the bench for 3 years to be ready? Faizon or Gmac need to be the starter or we have a QB development/Evaluation issue.

So someone please help me understand the situation. Don’t we have two really highly rated quarterbacks in the wings? Wouldn’t it make sense to actually play one of those highly rated quarterbacks? Why do we have them if they don’t play?
Because we have an extremely irrational fanbase that will want Heupel's head if we don't make the playoffs with a Freshman QB so you have to go with whatever allows you the best chance to win right now

Because they also have 5* RBs, WRs, OL, DL, LBs, and DBs

Those 2 QBs would’ve been much worse under someone else, as Nico has proven this year so…..
Any Qb on the planet would have been worse going from 2024 UT to 2025 UCLA. His completion % was.06 higher So…… that doesn’t prove anything except his team sucked this year.

And Milton made the progress over 3 years you can expect a QB to make normally with age and experience. So…………

We have the #1 wr in the country and another 5 star OL coming in to pair with the #1 overall OL that we got last year, Plus we will have multiple 1st-2nd round picks from this years team.
