I thought both he and Sellers at SC were going to have break out seasons but both had major sophomore slumps…we’ll probably lose one of the two backup QBs from this years roster so going into spring well a true freshman and most likely a redshirt freshman. No doubt Heupel will add a QB from the portal but keeping great team chemistry is a key consideration

So someone please help me understand the situation. Don’t we have two really highly rated quarterbacks in the wings? Wouldn’t it make sense to actually play one of those highly rated quarterbacks? Why do we have them if they don’t play?

We need to eventually let young QBs play and develop. Get a QB under center for more than one year at a time.

Nope. If they were good enough there would be no need for Aguilar. Heupel needs to win next year and can’t afford to let a QB grow into the role and take a few losses. The schedule is not difficult, with a talented and experienced QB like Lagway we could be looking at 11-1 and playoffs next year.

IF the defense is repaired.

If Heupel goes portal for a starting QB, I’m not sure he will ever sign a top QB from HS again. His move would show he wants an experienced guy at that position. As a HS guy, you would never get to start because of that philosophy and he would continue to portal guys in. That philosophy seems to work for some coaches such as Lane this year. If I were a top QB in HS it definitely would affect my decision. If Heupel can actually judge QB talent, he could portal in a lower division guy with the ability to play effectively if needed. Get a current roster guy ready and build come continuity for a few years. Get out of the, gotta portal a starter mentality.

He has a strong arm, just never developed consistent patterns or chemistry with receivers. The right fit and he can do really well. UT would be a good place for him to end up.
Dont be trying too push your problems off on us.

I’d take him. Hooker was nothing special either until Heupel. Lagway is a great athlete that would flourish under Heupel
People said the same thing about Milton. You never know, but there's a lot more data on Lagway than there was for Milton or Hooker.

I'm not an expert on QBs by any means, but Lagway seems to struggle with reading defenses. That's an area where Hooker and Aguilar thrived and an area that prevents Nico from being anything more than serviceable despite being an excellent run and very good passer. The ability to read defenses and make quick decisions is WAYYYY more important than being athletic, and I wouldn't even call Laway a great athlete. His longest run of the season was his 38 yard run against us and the most he ran for in a game was 40 yards against us.

I'd rather see us take a chance on TN native Kenny Minchey. Probably comes at a bargain since didn't get many opportunities to showcase his talents this year. 20-26 as a passer. Only had 7 carries but one of them went for 34 yards. Former 4-star who was recruited by TN in H.S. And I assume signing him wouldn't run off GMac like signing Lagway would.

I wouldn't. His development was mishandled right off the rip at Florida. It's not his fault, and he is talented, but I wouldn't even bother.

Not speaking to DJ, but look how many of the playoff teams this year are prior year portal QBs.
Maybe it is best to let a yungin take his lumps somewhere else and harvest the results.

Lagway was the QB Florida fans were willing to give Napier another year to keep. That kept them from hiring Kiffin, now both DJ & Billy are gone.

Per Gator podcasters DJ made $4mil a year. Good luck finding that with 14 INTs.

We need a one year plug and play type guy. Also, if he moves within the conference is he required to sit out a year?
