Disgusting scenes from the student section

Don't even talk about our student section either. Anyone who was at the USC game celebrating after we won can tell you that multiple glass beer bottles flew down and shattered near us. Go ahead and tell me how plastic Dasani bottles can injure someone again.
Mommy...little Jimmy did it so why can't I?

Not defending them, but that didn't start until the Mizzou fans were cheering while our player was laying injured on the field.

We were doing the 'wave' last week with Crowder on the turf. That was fun to watch. Never get tired of the wave. Weeeeeeeeee

Keep the hope...in a few decades you may reach adulthood. In the meantime try to stop embarrassing our university and state.

Please don't act like you know me. I can guarantee you that I am a much classier and respected than you blue hair. It's football. Not a ballet. Missouri started taunting the student section as soon as the game started.

Edit: I'll go ahead and apologize for saying I'm classier and more respected than you, but you have no idea who I am, and you do not have the right to say whether I may reach adulthood. I did not throw any bottles and I did not see any thrown. So have a good week.

I'm all for students verbally assaulting players and coaches of the opposing team, but throwing stuff at them or other fans is not cool at all.

Honestly don't ever remeber anyone throwing bottles when I was a student (04-08). We got into shouting matches with players all the time during warm ups(since UT had the east sideline during the game) and it was fun. Sounds like things went a little too far yesterday though.

I didn't throw anything, but going to my last UT game as a student having endured the last 4 seasons is more disgusting than the bottles thrown on last night.

I took my son to his first game VS MTSU in 1994 and we had four drunk students in front of us standing on their seats. My son at 9 years old couldn't see, heck I couldn't see but I liked standing also, except we stood on the concrete ,not the actual seat. I asked nicely the first three times until I got the F you in front of my son.I promptly put the guy on his butt and the usher which I had known for 25 years (had the season tix that long) came and escorted the drunks out. I e- mailed Hamilton and he moved my seats to the opposite side of the field and when I got my tix app in 2005 it was right back where I was, needless to say I dropped my season tix and have been to three spring games and the Music city bowl since. But still VFL !!

I came extremely close to throwing a fellow "fan" down the stairs at the 2010 music city bowl. Guy was absolutely smashed and pestering everyone in his presence; once he started making sexual remarks to the ladies in front of him and cussing at me for telling him to stop, I'd had enough. Won't go into detail but he shut up the rest of the game. I hate when fans get out of hand and ruin the experience for those around them.

Wow, unbelievable. I find it incredibly ironic that you call yourself classy with the comments you have listed in this thread towards Smallvol#1. Nothing you have said is even remotely classy.

As a student I have to say that I was sad to see the way some of my peers decided to respond to a tough loss. I have been in the student section for the past 4 years and have seen bottles thrown on several occasions. The Vandy game last year and as Kiffin entered and exited the tunnel this year for the Bama game. In a couple of other occasions I have actually been hit by bottles thrown that didn't quite make it to the field.
The sad truth is that UT doesn't make an effort to control the amount of alcohol that makes it into the student section. They do a "pat down" that varies significantly from a full groping to just asking a student to take their hat off or open their purse. This means that a good amount of liquor enters the stadium in addition to students who are already drunk when they get to the stadium.
Finally the way that student tickets are allocated adds to the problem. UT gives attendance points for going to home football games that carry over from year to year( 1 point per SEC game and 2 or 3 for non-SEC games). This is meant to reward loyal students with betters seats. However when seating students they populate the first 2 rows of the entire student section with people with the most points and then fill in about 15 rows of sections E and F. After that they fill in the lower rows of G,H,I,J, and K. Then the rest of the student seats. This means that while you have loyal students in the first say 20 rows of E and F, you get students who don't go to many games in the rows starting at 30 in section D and E, which is where you get a lot of the bottles being thrown from. These are students who don't come to many games, and when they do come get hammered before and during the game. And to top it off, these are the sections with the least presence by stadium officials and police.
None of this excuses the behavior of the student section, but I hope it sheds a little light on the nature of the problems.

Instant gratification generation. If they don't get their way they throw a tantrum..or in this case really hard plastic bottles.

That sounds like 90% of the people on this site! Wonder what their punishment should be?

I can assure you that if you get hit in the face by a plastic bottle thrown from the student section, its going to leave a mark.

I love some of the responses reasoning of, well their players said stuff to us, so we thought a good response was to launch objects at them

First let me start off by saying that I am a student. Not sure if anyone noticed or saw, but towards the very end of the game last night many, many bottles and other objects were thrown onto the field towards the Missouri bench. It was pretty ugly. A couple players were hit, including one with a half full bottle of water, which exploded on impact. This caused the Missouri bench to turn and begin to mock our students, which they had every right to do. A just punishment imo would be if every imbecile who threw something had to line up at midfield and received a punch to the face from the Missouri player who was hit, number 56 I believe. The student section has been a disaster all year. From all of the "F you *Insert team*" at the end of every loss to the countless drunk-beyond-ability-to-function kids falling over themselves as they "cheer" on their Vols. These actions need addressing and not just via a email from Jimmy Cheek which everyone will just mark as read and move on. I truly believe Butch needs to address the student body in its entirety on these matters.

goodness, what a wuss. you would have had a heart attack and cried home to mommy if you had been there in the 70's and 80's. the student section is tennis fans if you compared them the students from 70's and 80's.

you have no clue son.
