Disappointing loss, but fan reactions are embarrassing

How many years ago now was Appy State over Michigan? People still talking about that one. And Appalachian State was actually a fairly decent team in their conference. We got blasted by a cellar dweller.

Sure, we should have not lost to Ga State, but there is no excuse for the complete melt down by Tennessee fans. Support the team and staff as they both grow and improve. It starts with good recruiting classes and building depth which Pruitt is doing. I was disappointed with Saturday’s outcome but I am a graduate and VFL and expect this team to improve.

Your false assumption that every team will grow and improve is the problem.

There are like 117 D1 teams these days, right? That means that half of them roughly are improving compared to their opponents and half of them are getting worse.

It seems pretty obvious that the Tennessee program is in the latter grouping, programs that are getting worse. I know that, because they were thoroughly outplayed by one of the worst programs in collegiate football.

Why you think we should automatically assume they're improving and growing is beyond me, but have at it.

There you go using common sense and you know that's not allowed here!!!!

If this can base isn't firing coaches or calling for firings then they aren't happy!! Yeah losing suks but yesterday was embarrassing I get it, but ya know sometimes you get what you deserve and this fan base needs to realize this isn't the glory days of the '90's and we've heard nothing but complaining since then. They complain and get what they want then they complain some more and want something different!!

Patience is virtue and we Volunteers have none. This is why we don't n can't have nice things. So yeah let's go ahead and fire the whole staff and start over and see where that gets us.
Fplks with common sense don't post on VN much less read into it. It's merely an internet forum where opinions are expressed and frustrations are vented. You can go out and hire Urban Meyer right now and not a dang thing is going to change. This team needs to be rebuilt entirely and we are getting good recruits and improvement will come. Like you said keep thinking changing coaches is going to make a difference and it hasn't to this point because the same base/core problem will be there until we get better players and as it stands now we get 25 per year.

fan reactions are embarrassing

Lol NO Saturday was embarrassing and that was solely on the coaches and team.

I did my part, I watched, I changed out of my gray UT shirt to an orange one, I suffered the loss, I’ve endured the laughter, and I’m still a die hard Vol fan and always will be.

But this sux and I ain’t going to pump no sunshine, I ain’t going to give any benefit of the doubt, I ain’t going to pretend it’s getting better and I’m certainly not embarrassed by being totally fed up.

Even the bad recruits, as you'd say, were 10x better than Georgia State's BEST recruits, so no, this is not just about restocking the recruits. You're a fool if you really believe that. Tennessee's entire roster was made up of player's that would be Georgia State's best recruit. And Georgia State thoroughly outplayed them in every phase of the game. That's not recruiting, and it's not a problem that is fixed by roster turnover.

I suppose you think we'd be winning NCs every year now if we had given Dooley or Jones more time? By that same logic Bama was foolish to can Mike Dubose, which means they wouldn't have hired Nick Saban. You know, the coach who was their sixth different head coach in ten years?
So our next hire will make our 5th in 12 years? Reckon we'll be lucky enough to strike gold on our 5th or maybe we'll have to wait until our 6th or 7th before we get it right? 'Bout like rolling dice....a crapshoot.

Minnesota Vikings traded a 5th round for a kicker to solve their kicking problems. Then he choked as "the guy" and missed everything and was apparently awful in practice as well.

They could have kept him for the regular season just to not "look stupid." They did the correct thing and cut the guy anyway, knowing it makes them "look stupid" for trading a 5th for nothing.

If the guy can't coach up 4 and 5 star recruits to beat 1 star recruits at home, he's not a winner and never will be one.

It was Georgia State, a team that went 2-10 last year. There is not one player on that team that was ever considered by any of our recruiting staffs. Yet, they manhandled our players. We rotated players in and out, and they all looked gassed. Instead of being aggressive, most plays their body language shows they were as passive as lambs. Instead of knowing their assignments, they acted confused and clueless. This team got outplanned, outhustled, outran, outplayed, and outcoached by a team expected to finish last in the Sunbelt Conference. No excuse for a meltdown? Are you serious? If ever a meltdown was called for, it is now. This was unacceptable. This team had all summer to improve. They regressed from ending the season with losses to Missouri and Vanderbilt. You want us to stomach it? Shut up, Phil.

One of the more interesting comments Pruitt gave, and its recent, was that he claimed his father said that for every freshman you play, you'll have a loss. So how many did CJP play Saturday? And if he believed that......because he did say it......why'd he do what he did? To my knowledge he played a freshman running back, a couple OL, a DL and a CB, at the least. If he believed that s***, why did he do it? Certainly not because he thought he'd lose....so why? That tactic is on him.....so he should stick to core values, his or his father's. In this case he didn't.

Based on talent alone, UT should have steamrolled GA St. We were significantly outplayed and our guys acted as if they would rather be anywhere else in the world than in Neyland Stadium playing in front of their home fans. Yes, there were less than a handful of exceptions.

This was not rebuilding. This was not wait until we have two more recruiting classes to get our guys in there. This was a complete disregard for each of Neyland’s Maxims. This game showed a team with no desire to compete. Say what you want about recruiting, etc, but playing hard should be expected every time.

Am I overreacting? I don’t think so. This is a program changing win for GA St and one that will be talked about forever. There is no other team in our conference that would have lost to GA St on Saturday. I am fairly certain that no other power 5 school would have lost that game.

When?

You know what is really sad?...Today my boss "Who is a huge Gators fan" walks by me today and said, I was going to come and tease you a little and talk some trash but now I just honestly feel bad for you and your team...what the hell is gong on up there that you guys can't get a decent coach??..I told him we haven't tried to hire any.

Pruitt was showing out for recruits with all those freshmen all over the field. GSU's staff was showing out for the scoreboard.

We are gonna be fine. **** happens and it can only happen so often. We’ve had our allotment of **** happening, so it’s inevitable that no more **** will happen.

UT should be proud it had angry fans....that could meltdown.
I watched the 1st half and had to go to an appointment then saw the final score and calmly thought, "Well, we should still beat Chattanooga."

So you’re saying all Vol fans should get in a circle and hold hands while singing we are family.

I hope the team and program improves as we are running out of teams to schedule that we can actually beat.
