Disappointing loss, but fan reactions are embarrassing

We have all the right to feel and say the things we say. I came up Friday night with my family Hotel tickets spent about 80 bucks in concessions wife purchased a 30 dollar tank top out of Vol shop sat in the blistering sun for hours to support. Watch every play till the last second ran off the clock. Sorry not Sorry

Sure, we should have not lost to Ga State, but there is no excuse for the complete melt down by Tennessee fans. Support the team and staff as they both grow and improve. It starts with good recruiting classes and building depth which Pruitt is doing. I was disappointed with Saturday’s outcome but I am a graduate and VFL and expect this team to improve.
Dude, look around. Whoever is left at this point after the last decade does not need a damn lecture in supporting the team. Everyone still here is just too stupid to see what's actually there.

I'm right there too. At least I can admit my own ignorance for somehow expecting Tennessee to play in a way that, at the very least, doesn't turn us into a national laughing stock yet again.

I was proud of how Coach Pruitt handled the beatdown...on the other hand...not too proud of some fans, but, you're either in or out...:D

GO BIG ORANGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For the next 2-3 years the loss to State will probably always be mentioned when ever TN football is discussed. Fans have a right to be pissed.

More like 20. Every time we play an OOC Sunbelt team. Every time we play a "good" FCS team, it will be brought up about how Georgia State came in and owned Neyland.

Fans are fans and are doing fan things. The concern should be when they no longer care.

But, this isn't hard. People wait all year for this. It's "hope renewed" and all that other stuff and the performance Saturday just made people long for the offseason all over again.

It's impossible to overreact to this. Impossible. We got physically whipped in our building by a 2-10 Sunbelt team who's only had a football program for 8 years. Oh and we paid them 950,000.00 to do it! This is embarrassing, humiliating, and un-****ing acceptable! Our fanbase is 100% entitled to act or overreact to this!

You guys that are so mad at the fans for actually being upset we lost to this team, before the game did you even fathom we would lose? If someone had posted a thread that predicted the game outcome pretty much exactly, how much credibility would you have given them? Would you have said "Well I can see that happening" or "This person may be right"....or would you have laughed and said there's no way we lay an egg like this at home?

Basically some of you pumpers are acting like we shouldn't be that surprised at this outcome and even maybe we should have expected it, and I'm calling 100% bullstuff that before the game you actually thought we had a good chance to lose.

These fans have always been embarrassing. It was a bad loss but we still have a season to play. Now I know you products of time out want everything your way but it ain't happening so grow up.

Growing up means that you become wise enough to stop turning a blind eye to a bad situation. If you want to turn the other cheek and accept this tripe, be my guest. This grown man is not going to just ignore the obvious......

The good side is it will not be hard to schedule another OOC Sunbelt team to play us. A $950k payout and a guaranteed win will have them beating down the door to come play here.

On the other hand, if they do somehow pull off a miraculous upset against BYU, Vandy, etc., they just lost to the team that got beat down by Georgia state. The program is at a point where any wins and the other team will be like wait we just lost to THAT team?

Anybody try and watch the college football highlights last night to see how the first full day of college football went only to see the UT loss be the top three story. When they start showing the highlights from the loss all you can do is turn it over to something else. The fans have a right to be pissed because they cannot see any light at the end of the tunnel.

Complete meltdown??? This wasn’t just a bad loss, this was an embarrassment that will be remembered for a decade, of course we’re going to have a meltdown. Fans spend time and money supporting this team and shouldn’t ever have to witness what we did yesterday. Short of disbanding the program it’s impossible to overreact to this.

Their first loss that year was an OT loss at Auburn. You know....the National Champion that year. All of their losses were to P5 schools that went to bowl games except South Florida, the team that beat them in their bowl game. Also you said he "inherited" a 9 win first season..."; he coached the last half of the 2008 season, going 4-3 counting the bowl game. He won the division and went to the ACC Championship his first full year.

So again, please stop these stupid comparisons; if Pruitt had won the East last year we wouldn't be "melting down".
Yes you would. Pruitt inherited a bad team, following a horrible coaching search that drew national attention and an unrealistic fan base.

It's unrealistic to believe that Pruitt, in year 2, should have the team prepared to curb stomp a 2-10 Sunbelt team in the home opener?

How about just beat a Sunbelt team? Is that unrealistic as well?

If expecting to beat a 25 point underdog bad Sun Belt team at home is "unrealistic", then you need to find something else to follow because you clearly don't get college football.

Anyone calling out the fans should know that the fans are the ones that are actually supposed to go crazy.

That's sort of what fans do. They pay the money to support the program. Sure, some are idiots. That will always be true. But plenty are just tired of losing.

You don't want the fans to stop going crazy. If they stop, apathy seeps in. That kills programs faster than couch burning ever could.

Losing sucks. It just does.

I don't know the answer. But I hope someone somewhere does.
