Besides the horrible loss, I am extremely disappointed in the entire atmosphere in Oxford. I'm hoping the 11 AM start time was the reason for the letdown. The Grove was highly overrated. Lots of people, but no TVs, none of the pageantry I had heard about (dining room tables and chandeliers) from fans from past trips. There's no room for any gameday games such as cornhole or washers, and just an overall feeling that there wasn't a game about to happen.
The girls were no better than any other school I've ever been too, and it wasn't like it was too cold for them to show up (mid-70's and beautiful).
And on top of that, fans going in Gates 11 & 12 had to wait over half an hour to get through the line. We left the Grove 30 minutes before game time and still missed the first TD. Highly disappointed in the "pride and joy of SEC tailgating"
Like I said, the 11 AM kickoff could carry some of the blame. But I've been to The Quad in Bama at an 11 AM game and it is a way better experience (minus the Bammers) and Knoxville in early games has twice as much buzz around the strip.

I'm guessing you didn't stop by after the game. Still, even before the game you should have been able to see plenty of eye candy.

I wasn't saying the eye candy wasn't there, but it wasn't overwhelming. Its just a standard autumn day at an SEC school.

I completely disagree with everything you said. They are the classiest fans I have ever been around. And that includes the Harvard/Yale game I went to a few years back. The Grove isn't all high tech with flat screens, etc. It's more of a social event. Very laid back. People invited us to their tents to eat with them before and after the game. They leave their stuff there during the game because no one messes with it. A lot of class. Absolutely no trash talking. A couple people even bought us drinks out at the square downtown. I was impressed with the girls. Not all of them are smoking hot, but I saw very few that weren't good looking. Most students didn't stop by the Grove until after the game, because 11am is early.

I'm not sure what Grove you were at... it was everything I expected and more.

I've been there before and it was one of the best game day experiences I ever had...And there were plenty of gorgeous Mississippi women there...Not sure what you were expecting but so far your the only person I've ever met who didn't enjoy the Grove on game day....And I agree, The fans there are among the classiest I've ever met.

Disagree with everything you said also. I've been to about all of the other SEC stadiums and Ole Miss is hands down the best for tailgating. And as much as I hate to admit it, the fans have class.

I'm not sure why there would be TV's there anyhow. I guess people could watch gameday, but our game (along with the other 12 am starts) was the first to kick off.

I have no complaints about the fans. I didn't run into one rude fan and was offered food. Didn't feel alot of excitement leading up to the game, but 11 AM can do that to you.
I'm not saying I didn't have a good time. But my experience at the Ole Miss game in the Grove was no better or worse than any experience I've had tailgating at Bama, Auburn, or Knoxville.
Maybe it was just too hyped up for me beforehand. But one thing jlovevols said was very true... it was a social event. It didn't feel like a football tailgate to me. But as I said, I had a good time, but it wasn't some magical tailgate I'll tell my kids about. (Which is the way alot of fans make it out to be).

I guess it depends on what you're looking for. There's not a whole lot of hype about the game. It's a unique experience though. I was talking to one Ole Miss alum after the game about it, and he said, "When you're not used to winning a whole lot, it's best not to focus on the game as much."

I can believe that. It was like leaving Tuscaloosa after we'd lost in basketball. They just didn't seem to care all that much. I was just looking for something different. It just seemed like The Quad in Tuscaloser without the a$$holes.

1. There were many TVs. We were actually discussing how they were powered, as generators are not allowed. There are large transformer boxes strategically positioned for plug-ins. There also seemed an abundance of food, much of it catered, and I saw multiple tents with servers.

2. Early games always make for sluggish pregame tailgating. The Grove and the Square were both packed for the rest of the day.

3. Since I married an Ole Miss grad, she won't mind me saying that you are incorrect about the "talent level" at most other SEC schools. And the attire....wow....for a football game???

4. Can't comment on gates 11 and 12. We walked right up and into our gate with maybe a 30 second delay, 10 minutes before kickoff. I was surprised, given the crowd we have to push through at Neyland.

Sorry you had a bad experience. Give it another shot in 5 years!

That was a great game Vols! Enjoyed the whooping Ole Miss put on you. Well, guess you got one more loss to Kentucky and should be a win against Vandy! 6-6....maybe a Bowl will come calling.........Maybe you should extend Kiffen's contract a few more years.

Maybe you should make a 3-inch incision in your lower abdomen, pull out a 6 foot length of your intestines, wrap it around your neck and hang yourself.

You disgrace the Bama fans with class when you write posts like that. And learn to spell Kiffin. Saban went 6-6 in his first year. Kiffin could easily go 7-5.

Don't feed the troll. They know what's coming.

Now that I think about it, I had the best BBQ ribs I have ever eaten while I was there...Met this nice OM family who was tailgating next to us and they invited me and my GF at the time to join them and man oh man to this day I have never eaten such good food...Great company too...Got my stomach growling from hunger now LOL...Great memory

Completely disagree. I was completely amazed by the women there. Granted, the overall quality wasn't better, it was on par with our scenary---but good God, the quantity!! They were everywhere. There were even a few 50+ women that were distracting.

I wasn't as impressed with The Grove as I thought I would be, partially b/c it was divided into two (large) sections, but after all I had heard over the years, I had been built it up in my head as something on a massive scale. Don't get me wrong, its big, lots of food, lots of scenerey just not on the scale I imagined.

The thing I wasn't impressed with was Vaught-Hemingway....for 63K capacity, it looked small. Almost reminded me of Vandy's stadium a little...not impressed at all.

But lordy...the women. Wow.

I think you've lost it

The fans were amazing.
They couldn't have given away food and booze faster.
The women there were GORGEOUS. After the game I couldn't finish conversations. "Yeah, McCluster was really on fire today, he ---.........look over there...yellow."
I had a great time.

You're out of your gourd...it was great! I sat under a tent with a group watching Gameday on a 65" plasma with food catered by one of the judges of Memphis in May. There were tons of girls and fans on both sides having a great time, with drinks flowing in copious amounts! There were kids throwing football on the lawns and people, in general, just having a great time. As for the tables and chandeliers you speak of, I have pics to prove they were present, along with a great Colnel Reb shrub sculpture. Did you even get out and walk around any?
